so I have a surefire g2x tactical. I had in a vtac offset mount, but I either had to bring my hand back further or put my light head right in the line of my muzzle break chambers (lantac dragon) leading to some carbon build up on the lens

1. how do I clean my lens properly?
2. should I just buy an inline mount and tape switch, or get a surefire mini, inline mount and tape switch? what will the mini do that my g2x can't?

What Psi said, toothpaste is a good start for getting some mild carbon buildup off without worrying about digging into the lens.

Have you tried putting a thin layer of chapstick on the lens before hitting the range? Tends to catch most of the carbon and wipe right off.

If you're worried about digging into the lens then you should know toothpaste is an abrasive. I don't know what material or coating surefire uses on the lenses but toothpaste is designed to abrase, which is probably why it works for that purpose. Same deal with peanut butter. Also why both of them can be used to remove sticker goo and as a ghetto polishing compound.

The trijicon on my USP40 are a green front, orange rear, and I like it. They're a little fuzzy, though. Some of that is just because it's 20+ years old.

the mk12 modH's use noveske barrels that are reprofiled to fit the collar so you are looking at custom work only if you want something under 18"

All jokes aside, if you zero'd with the 55gr and ran a 75 gr through it, it is reasonable to assume that there will be a shift in the point of impact between these two. Your 1:7 twist is probably stabilizing the 75gr better than the 55gr, accounting for the shift.

As far as the theoretical spalling, there's no way to account for the magnitude of variables that could cause the bark to fly off in that direction and tear through the back side of the target. I will say that it is a possibility.... Which would also explain why the jagged hole appears to burst from the backside of the target and thru to the front.

If it were me? I'd stick to using the 75gr HP. What brand are they? I thought Tula and Wolf HPs were 72gr not 75gr.

sheeyit thanks, that's a handy infographic. As for zeroing, I have a cheapo ncstar rear sight and a fixed front post, and that setup really on seems to be able to approximate zero. even with a bipod and shooting on my stomach there isn't a ton of consistency. granted, I normally put 40gr 22lr through it with a drop in bolt because it's quieter, but as I type this I kind of realize how dumb it is to do that

anyway, I'll stick to 75gr HP (not sure what that is, high pressure?). This is the box my ammo came in.

First build. Don't think it turned out too bad. Pic is potato as I don't have a good camera.

I do have an issue with the build though.

I keep on having light primer strikes on this build. The trigger is milspec (ALG-QMS lying around from a past gun, installed correctly) so hammer energy shouldn't be the issue. Ammo (M193) is good and ran across 2 other guns without issue. The bolt is a little tight in the carrier, but translates smoothly. Gas system runs .223 just fine so it shouldn't be under gassed. Does anyone have an idea as to what could be causing this? Could it just be the parts need to wear in? (about 150rnds through it) Short firing pin?

That part of the spring sits in a notch on the trigger pin which keeps the trigger pin from falling out of either side

The hammer pin does this by having a notch directly in the middle where a spring loaded detent inside the hammer sits

Duraflex buckles, YKK zippers, Cordura, Hypalon material, the thread is the same mil-spec thread as my other shit with proper spacing and tension.

s-so here's a slightly older pic of my setup. since that pic I've ordered a new lower and I'm gonna make sure to mill it out when I'm not sleep deprived and use one of those table grip things to hold it

the problem with the ncstar rear sight is that the bit that adjusts to go up and down isn't well aligned with the rest of the sight, plus it can shift left and right independent of the left/right adjuster wheel thing. like I said, it's good for getting and idea of where the bullet goes bit it's not precise or accurate. not to mention without my glasses both sights are way out of focus and with them on it focuses on the rear sight. I've been thinking about replacing it with a scope or a red dot just to save my eyes the strain

I pretty much built mine.

That one in the link isn't accurate. Only around 50 or so of the very first carbines (colt 607s) had the triangular forearm stock and would have been paired with the special stock you see on mine.

Put a round forearm stock on it and it would be an accurate XM177.
