Is this red dot guide still applicable? I'm leaning towards the eotech 512, but I want to hear what the heated debate referenced in this pic is referring to.

Bonus: I have a standard ar15 but I want to install a freefloat handguard. What is considered high tier in regards to freefloat rails for just some basic range plinking? Keymod or m-lok? I've heard m-lok is the direction manufacturers are heading. I just want to install a BUIS, red dot sight and 3x magnifier. I might want to add on a light or a forward vertical grip/bipod combo occasionally as well. Am I being retarded? Any guidance is helpful.

We're gonna need a budget before we can suggest anything.

The Eotechs were having issues with a wandering zero with temperature shifts.

Midwest is one of the better inexpensive options for a FF rail and comes in both M-lok and keymod. Their SSK/M line especially is very light, thin, and comfy. They run around $150 iirc. After that, you're looking at BMC's KMR, Geiselle SMR mk4/8, URX, and about a million other options. Your best bet is to go to a website like primary arms and just look at all the handguards they have, find a few you like, post them here, and get some feedback.

As far as rails go, you'll be served about the same by keymod or M-lok. A quad rail obviates the need for keymod or M-lok rail sections and accessories, but it's also typically heavier than the other options.

Reminder that quad rail is the only attachment interface rigorously tested in combat. Geissele's SMR system comes in a distant second, being used by some special forces units.

I'm getting an A2 upper, but I don't want to spend nearly $300 on a barrel that has a rifle extension (and it doesn't even come with the front sight post, sling swivel, or any of the other small parts related to the front sight base). If I get a barrel with an M4 barrel extension, would it be worth $45 bucks to have a gunsmith mill M4 feed ramps into my upper? Keep in mind I'm a poorfag, and $45 is about a third of my paycheck.

I've got the PA 700 lumen gen 2 compact weapon light and the Surfire P2X Fury.

In all honesty they can be found at about the same price and I trust Surefire a hell of a lot more than I do whatever overseas operation they have manufacturing PA lights.

The PA isn't bad and has worked well to this point, but it's heavier, overly bright for indoor use and leaves a big question mark for overall ruggedness and longevity.

It's pretty well on-par with the performance of that P2X Fury, which is pretty impressive. Did not expect the LED to perform as well as it does. Neither of those lights have incredible throw though. Get past 50 or so yards and you're getting a flood light.

That was my one and only concern with the tight-to-rail profile. Would either turn to a bottom mount or since I've got enough rail, mount it all the way forward and move the DBAL and front sight back a few notches to clear the thicc part. Worst case just go back to the stock mount.

If you're only shooting for precision out to ranges where 4x is worth a shit, an 18" or 20" SS precision barrel will do just fine and save you on weight/looking retarded.
