/k/ I went shooting for the 3rd time in my life today. Why do I suck so much? I mean I understand sucking because of no experience, but I haven't really seen any improvement in my shooting since the 1st time.

I'm using irons on an AR and my right eye has terrible vision. My left eye is good but I feel very uncomfortable shooting left handed. So I guess my excuse could be that my shooting eye has terrible vision but still.

I want to get a red dot so I can shoot with both eyes open, it's hard for me to see at 25 yards when I just aim with my right eye. But now that I'm getting down on myself about my shit aim, I wondering if a 1x-6x scope would be better. Can I shoot with both eyes open with a scope? Also, I'm trying to prepare for SHTF so idk how practical a scope would be. All I know, is I'm pretty bummed ;_;

Will post my target here in a minute.
>>
>>32918673
Get glasses?
>>
>>32918673
Also the lighting at my gun range is terrible, so that could be a factor as well
>>
>>32918680
I don't have vision insurance, and glasses are for cucks. But mainly, as I said, im preparing for SHTF, so glasses would be more of a burden than anything, they'll just end up breaking.
>>
>>32918673
I'm cross eye dominant as well OP. I find a righty AR can be shot lefty if you attempt to get used to it. I'm also ambidextrous so that might not help. The scope will help but getting used to lefty will help a lot more.

What's your vision like that you can see well with your left eye but not out to 25 yards with your right eye?
>>
>>32918689
Does your ar have two rear sight apertures? If it does, try switching to the large aperture. Irons with the small aperture are a bitch to use in low light.
>>
>>32918703
Contacts, although they're worse in a SHTF scenario.
>>
>>32918725
I'm not a huge fan of AR irons. I got the vortex strike eagle. It's a relatively cheap 1-6x but I would not use it shtf.

I figure shtf, you'll be trying to not engage as much as possible so the lb you save from nor having a 1-6x is much more utilitarian
>>
>>32918673
I'm right handed, with a blind right eye. I'll tell you what my grandpa told me at 5 when he taught me to shoot.

"Suck it up buttercup"

aside from that, keep practicing. 25 yards with an AR does not need a scope. Grab a Ruger 10/22 and a few thousand rounds of ammo.
>>
>>32918673
you can shoot anyting with both eyes open but if your eyesight shit use the good eye. also youve been shooting a grand total of 3 time accept the fact that you are a noob with bad eyesight and go from there. figure out the fundamentals before adding a bunch of shit to your gun. all the tacticool in the world wont make you shoot better if have no clue what you are doing.
>>
>>32918703
>glasses are for cucks
>could probably benefit from them
Gee OP i couldnt say what you should do here.
>>
>>32918703
4 eyed cross dominant asshole reporting

Number one.
Get fucking glasses.
Get two pairs
In a year, get two more, and keep the first two in hard cases
I also recommend a pair of sunglasses in your scrip.
You're so worried about SHTF, but you can't fucking see 400 yds with shit tier eyes.
Fix yourself, before you fix your shot.
Blame the gun, all you want, but if you can't make out your target, you can't hit it either, and that's not your guns fault.
Fucking hell.

Nobody ever blamed the gun tripfag. I was blaming my vision. Learn to read before you reply. But how do I get glasses with no insurance? I'm a poorfag. Also I can see just fine........ when both my eyes are open. I was trying to emphasize that.

Oh that got me good.

That aside, op needs to learn proper before practicing. You can practice all you want, but if you're practicing wrong you won't improve.

Try to shoot with one eye shut until you get used to it, maybe as bad as that is for you. And focus on that front sight and even sight picture. Learn to not flinch. Things like trigger control and how to hold it steady will come with experience.

Offhand as in standing with no support except for your arms.
>>
>>32918835
Thanks man, I get pretty down on myself, I posted my target though.
>>32918836
This was mostly standing, the target is up above, some of it was sitting though. It was 25 yards.

How have you been coming here since 09 and not figured out that you are most likely cross dominant by now? Also, dude seriously.....get glasses. After a month of having them you will get used to them and not see them as a burden.
>>
>>32918886
Well, not to /k/ but to 4chan in general lmao. I've only been on /k/ for a couple months. I understand the glasses thing but again, I don't have vision insurance. So just act like glasses aren't an option.
>>
>>32918858
Honestly that's not too bad for someone with little experience. You can do it, jsut not consistently. Eliminate some variables so you can work on your core fundamentals. Try some bench rest shooting at 100 yards with or without an optic. You'll be able to better understand where you fall short since there's less to go wrong. You'll notice if you're jerking the trigger and moving your sights anticipating recoil, which even for us experienced people is something you start doing automatically if you've been shooting for a while continuously. You'll also be able to focus on a more consistent sight picture since your sights won't be shaking everywhere because of muscle tremors.

I'd also recommend dry fire practice in your home. Keep ammunition in a separate room and check the chamber every time you pick it up.
>>
>>32918903
Honestly m8 Id call up the optometrists around you to see what they would charge for an uninsured patient and save up. I knew one who would see people for 100 bucks cash if they were uninsured, its worth the time to call them at least.
>>
>>32918910
Thank you I do appreciate that. One of my marine buddies said I was jerkin the trigger and flinching based on my pattern. I have been practicing dry firing in my room, I didn't use to know what people meant by squeezing the trigger, dry firing helped with that. But idk, when I'm actually shooting though I can't tell if I'm squeezing it or not. It seems I'm still jerking it though.
>>32918953
Good point, also with the Trumpster in office idk what's gonna happen with insurance so it's kind of an iffy point in time right now.
>>
>>32918673

shoot left handed then. thats what i do.

work on your fundamentals m8

>slowly bring the trigger straight back
>the shot should surprise you
>keep trigger back until the gun stops recoiling
>slowly bring trigger finger forward
>wait for trigger to reset
>start all over
>>
>>32918784
Put a dot of white nail polish on it and then color it in with a hilighter. It might help a bit
>>
>>32918866
Shoot from a bench (or prone) with a front and rear rest.

Get everything dialed in, work on your fundamentals (trigger, breathing, grip) and you'll know whether it was you or the gun.

You may also try dry firing and watching the front sight for any movement as you pull the trigger.

I like shooting handguns more anyways.
>>
>>32919054
Holy shit, I never thought of this! That might help tremendously. Thanks anon.
>>32919042
Thank you for the advice, I'll take all I can. Speaking of, these two dips hits at the range were talking shit about me behind me when I was shooting. My first 5 shots I thought i was at 25 yards, turns out I was only at 16, I corrected it then. But, instead of offering help, they just talked shit like faggots.

Anyways, I'll try to be concious of your advice when I shoot again. I think I definitely flinch when the gun shoots, the Shockwave always makes me flinch, I'm trying to work on that.
>>
>>32919096
If you're shooting offhand use a relaxed grip on the rifle. Your biggest enemy there is fatigue making the gun sway.

If benched or prone be firm.

Most people can't shoot offhand as accurately as their rifles are capable of past 25 yards. Especially over an extended period of time.
>>
>>32918673
im cross eye dominant as a left handed person. I think because I'm just so used to having to do everyithing with my right hand (I even taught myself to write right handed in school because of the way the desks were) picking up a gun and shooting it right handed feels really natural and I just cant even really do it left handed. Its not comfortable at all and I can barely get a good grip on the rifle with my right arm and almost end up loosing grip with that hand on occasion. I like to have my left hand hold the foreskin and use my right hand to do all the work with the trigger and bolt and all. My brother is the exact same way but hes a righty so he shoots lefty and we're both decent shots, not great but we dont go shooting all the time.
OP just hold the rifle how it feels most natural and comfortable to you, the rest is just practice with your eyes and trigger control. Shit youve only been shooting 3 times ever, The most important part is to feel comfortable holding the rifle so you arent afraid of it. The rest is just practice. You'll get better. And if you have to switch to lefty just practice holding the rifle as comfortably as you can lefty and try trigger practice with no ammo to get used to the clumsy feel.
Oh and def learn irons before optics imo
>>
>>32919100
>shockwave
Double up on earpro. Go watch a couple of youtube vids on rifle marksmanship. Work on your breathing. You can shoot irons with both eyes open. Upgrade your trigger maybe.

You haven't told us the specs of your ar or the ammo you're shooting.
>>
>>32919214
oh also like one of the other annons my dad's a righty who's blind in his right eye from a freak needle fight as a kid, and he still shoots righty but leans his head over the stock a little more so he can use his left eye to aim, maybe try that too

I'm more affected by noise than recoil.

I take 7.62/.30 caliber better than 5.56/.223 for this reason. .223 is a loud fucking round even if it doesn't push back as hard.

I own nothing but bolt action surplus right now but I'm considering just jumping straight to a .308 semi auto for this reason.

>>32919214
Thank you anon, I'll just keep practicing. I figure I'll get better over time, I just thought I'd see some improvement though. Maybe I'm just not being patient enough lmao. I'll stay positive though :)

take your perscription to zennioptical.com and get some fucking $30 glasses. you can eat ramen for few days instead of the fucking 30 McDoubles you would have eaten

Yea be more patient. Work on trigger press. Focus on front sight. Make sure it's centered in rear ring. Don't forget to breathe. Try forcing yourself to keep eyes open when shot breaks so you can see the flinch. Finally, relax, it's a .223.
>>
Go to an Appleseed OP, they'll sort you out.

Don't talk about TEOTWAWKI or whatever though, they'll think you are weird.

You have multiple things going on, and all of them are easily fixable.
>>
>>32918703
>and glasses are for cucks
Pro tip: uncorrected vision reduces vision in the eyes over time. More you go like that worse it would be. With differences in the eyes you may even end with "lazy" weak eye.
>>
>>32918802
>But how do I get glasses with no insurance?

You exchange money for glasses, you fucking degenerate. If you can't grasp that, you are very likely to be too stupid to own guns.
>>
>>32918673
>3rd time in my life
Theres the problem son. Get something to help your vision if you wish but more practice boils down to a lot more skill. Don't be discouraged.
>>
>>32918673
>/k/ I went shooting for the 3rd time in my life today. Why do I suck so much?
Because you did this skill-based activity that is unlike anything other you have ever done only 3 times in your entire life.

>I mean I understand sucking because of no experience
doesn't look at it.

>but I haven't really seen any improvement in my shooting since the 1st time.
Nigger have you not ever practiced anything skill-based in your entire life? There is almost no long-term difference between 1 or 3 times. Try at least 10, 50, 100, then compare the results and look for improvements.

>I'm using irons on an AR and my right eye has terrible vision.
Then get glasses.

>inb4 glasses are for faggots
Then get contacts.

>inb4 contacts are for faggots too
You know what's even more faggy? Refusing to correct your vision when it's clearly not as it should be.
>>
