What does /k/ think of the Schofield?
>>
Like all break top designs, It's a piece of shit.
>>
>>32917683
True but sad, because it's overflowing with style.
>>
>>32917748
I agree, it's aesthetic as fuck.
>>
>>32917683
Could you go into a bit more detail on why it's shit?
>>
Not really Scholfield related, but I want a really cheap .32 break top revolver just to fuck around with and shoot some real cheap wax bullets. Fallout has ruined me.

It's great.

>>32917630
I have one, and absolutely love it.
>>
>>32918107
Could i see pictures? I have a keen interest in other peoples guns. I like to see other peoples tastes.

Break tops are good for shooting pipsqueak low pressure rounds downrange. They're an inherently weak design. The only advantage they had over the SAA at the time was speed of reloading. About the only thing worse would be a Colt conversion with no top strap at all and the hammer notch sights.
>>
>>32918970
.44 Russian or .45 Scofield aren't what I would call "pipsqueak". They're not as powerful as .45 Colt, absolutely, but they can still hold their own as manstoppers

Like this?
>>

>Break tops are good for shooting pipsqueak low pressure rounds downrange.
You are acting as if it would have been mechanically impossible to make a solid lockup mechanism making the whole thing magnitudes stronger than the SAA.
>>
>>32918998
you can find topbreaks in .45 Colt easily from Cimmaron, Uberti, or Taylors.
>>
>>32919017
That one appears to have the rear notch added to the gate conversion, although I can't see the top.
>>
>>32919067
No, it's on the hammer.
>>
>>32919018
Why would you want to? You already have a pistol that is overweight for its power, you want to make it worse?
>>
>>32919081
So as the parts wear out, the hammer notch starts to wander from side to side, which is the same kind of problem you have with the breaktop as the hinge and latch wear.
>>
Not strong? Any of you faggots heard of a Webley? Or .44 Russian?
>>
>>32919099
You do know that parts are replaceable. Right?
>>
>>32919099
And what the fuck are you doing to wear a hammer where it flops side to side?
>>
>>32919083
first, you could make the knee joint self locking which would result in a frame stronger than the colt in >>32919017 - add a top strap and you could shoot some really hot loads. ditching the spine on the barrel would make the thing lighter.
>>
>>32919128
>add a top strap and you could shoot some really hot loads

First, why would I want to? It's not like I'm using it for self defense. Second, it shoots everything up to +P, which is hot enough for me.
>>
>>32919149
>First, why would I want to?

I don't know, because you need to use the gun for bear defense on the frontier or some such romantic BS?
>>
>>32918998
.44 russian 246 grain at 770 324 me
.45 Schofield 250 grain at 710 283 me

I'll take a Colt in .44-40 all day long with those numbers.
>>
>>32919111
That's around .38 special ballistics. Not impressive or strong at all.
>>
>>32919221
Or get a top-break in .44-40
>>
>>32919116
I wouldn't have to replace anything on my SAA.
>>
>>32919271
If they wear out that bad, you would have too.
>>
>>32919262
You might be forgetting about momentum. A heavier round will penetrate better then a lighter one. And back then all you could hope for was good penetration. So it was a .36 cal hole that might penetration good enough or a .44 cal hole that went though.
>>
>>32919221
There is a lot more to it then muzzle energy. You have momentum, section density, bullet construction, etc. Just looking at muzzle energy is a rather shallow way of looking at it.
>>
>>32917959
have one and i shoot BP reloads out of. Its an H&A 32 auto ejector 4th model or somethign like that. i never made the connection to it being the fallout revolver till after a playthrough like last year. It was my fav gun becasue of function and aesthetic long before that though. i wore the nickle off and re blued it. 25$ at a gun show. guy thought it was broken as did i at the time. turns out it was DA only. if you can find one i highly recommend for the funsies.
>>
>>32917630
Would like to own one just for a cowboy collection.
>>
>>32917630
Doesn't have a thumb lever that allows it to be broke open in the manner of a webley
>>
>>32917630

Classy as fuck. 10/10 would tuck into a smoking jacket.

Top break appreciation bread?
I'll bite
I love my little IJ
>>
>>32917630
Definately my second favourite Western pistol. I just recently picked up one of those CO2 BB replicas because I don't have my restricted in Canada and even if I did I wouldn't have $1,500+ to spend on a Uberti replica at the moment.

Really neat pistols, I like the feel and unique operation of them. As others have said it might not be the strongest frame, but that will never be a barrier to my buying one, I'll just watch how hot the loads I use in it are. It's too cool and awesome looking not to grab one someday.
