I just won a bid for what seems to be a really nice Hi Power. I bought it because I previously thought it was a MkIII because of the lack of drain hole and dovetailed front sight but now I look even closer and I notice a lack of ambi safety and it's short, very akin to the MkI. What the fuck did I just by, is it some sort Franken-gun they made with parts just lying around??

The other side
>>
>>32916694
you bought a sex toy shaped like a Hi power, used for anal insertion. common mistake.
>>
>>32916694
Stay away from surplus Hi-Powers. A anon the other night bought one from AIM that was advertised as in good condition and the barrel was fucked and there was pitting on the frame.

I also saw that exact same gun browsing gun broker. All the guns are coming in from Israel and some have been repaired using older parts. It has the Mk I style safety. but it's still a MK III

My advice would be to buy one from CDI sales, you can see the exact gun you are getting if you're really a poor fag but still want a Hi-Power, but thats your own risk
>>
>>32916694
The ambi safeties they've been using since the Mk II was introduced is ass. It gets in the way.
>>
I already bought it and it's on the way. How badly did I fuck up?
>>
>>32916737
this

the current batch of surplus Hi-Powers coming in has been noticeably lower quality than the ones from last year. These might be the bottom of the barrel.
>>
>>32916762
Just inspect the gun before you do the paperwork, there may be nothing wrong with it but if it isn't in the condition it was advertised then don't be surprised and send it back.
>>
>>32916737
I looked at CDI but I specifically wanted a MkIII because for some reason I want to carry it
>>
>>32916775
There's nothing wrong carrying a Hi-Power, I carry one too. I'm just saying that it might be better to get like a Mk I that is in very good shape than a Mk III that's beat to shit.
>>
>>32916694
If it's not broken, I see no reason to not buy it.
Enjoy the gun anon.
>>
>>32916794
He's getting an Israeli surplus, those are notorious for being beat to shit, even the ones that have been advertised as being 'refinished'.
>>
They say it's been refurbished and is rated to be in Very Good condition. Here is the ad for it

AIM said the exact same fucking thing and they were lying. Be prepared to return it.
>>
Also, if it is a MkI lower will it still have the firing pin block? That was one of the main reasons I bought it
>>
>>32916839
They didn't start putting the firing pin block until the Mk III.
>>
>>32916809
600 DORRARA?
For a fucking old surplus gun? It's not like they're rare. You must be trolling.
>>
>>32916832
I was there for that thread, I'll check under the grips and the bore. It worries my they didn't include a pic of it
>>
>>32916859
Don't worry, it's been 'refinished'

>>32916860
I actually almost bought that today cause I finally got my refund, but I just can't trust the surplus guns. I'm just gonna save for a new gun or maybe a barely used practical
>>
>>32916859
Did I overpay? Decent Hi Powers start at 7-800, the $400 ones are beat to shit
>>
>>32916869
You can usually find an older T or C series for 700-800
>>
>>32916694
>>32916699
Keep your shirt on, tovarisch. It'll be fine.

Is the bottom of the mag well "rippled" or smooth? If it's rippled it's a cast frame and it's a Mk.III. Based on those pictures it looks like a Mk.III to me, it just happens to have the old-school, tiny, single-sided safety. As well as those damn wrap around grips, I hate those, personally.

I got a surplus Mk.II a couple years ago from AIM. It was beat to shit. I had it parkerized and changed all the springs. It's been nothing but good to me and I carry it routinely.

I would strongly recommend swapping out the old springs to fresh springs, check these guys out:
http://bhspringsolutions.com
You can get a spring kit for any Hi Power or clone under the sun. Email them if you've got questions, they're really helpful.

It's a surplus gun, it's going to be beat up, but it shouldn't have any trouble running perfectly well.
>>
>>32916892
I wonder how Yankee Marshal got a free kit from them?
>>
>>32916839
The firing pin block is located in the upper (slide).
>>
>>32916902
They've had a couple "give aways" to thank their early supporters, actually I got a "thank you" email with an offer, I just dumb-luck stumbled on them from the 1911 forum when they were first getting started.
>>
>>32916907
Alright, good. Is the stumpy saftey easy to use?
>>
>>32916941
No, get a C&S carry safety.
>>
>>32916941
Push it up, it's safe. Push it down, it's not on safe. Pretty easy.
>>
>>32916892
I too dislike the wraparound grips, they seem out of place. What are some nice wood grips I can put on it?
>>
>>32916859
>try to bid on a Gen 1 Jericho
>find a beat the fuck up one starting at 300
>goes up to like 580 in the last hour
I have no clue why shit like this goes for that much. Pretty sure Jerichos get shipped here every once in a while so I doubt they're all dried out.
>>
pls make a thread reviewing the purchase.
>>
>>32916941
Eh... I've got the old-school safety on my Hungarian clone, it's perfectly functional, although I do catch myself checking, double-checking, triple-checking to make sure it hasn't magically swiped itself off when I'm carrying it. Of course it never, ever has.

I've got a Cylinder and Slide single-sided extended safety on my Mk.II and it's more positive and friendlier to swipe on and off.

Old school safety is fine, but swapping in an extended safety can be a nice upgrade.

I didn't really like the ambi safety that came with the Mk.II, the off-side lever was loose as a goose and I felt like it was always about to get caught on something.
>>
>local gunshop has a beautiful hi power in great condition that I will hopefully be picking up this weekend

post more hi power porn!

>>32916785

I have an MK111 in .40 caliber. Selling it to my baby momma cause she wants a home defense gun.
>>

Will do

Craig Spegel grips are the stuff of legend. Honestly I don't even know if he's still making them. Google it up and give him a call.

The link I posted before, B&H Spring Solutions, actually make their own grips, they look pretty good.

I got these
http://www.brownells.com/handgun-parts/grip-parts/grips/browning-hi-power-combat-grips-prod9563.aspx
Micarta ones, they ain't pretty, but they've got a certain charm of their own. And they're super comfy, both to carry and shoot.

the one i might be buying looks like the far left there, with the ring hammer
>>
>>32917113
It's sexy but I'm not a fan of the little sights on the mkI&IIs and they are not dovetailed in so you are stuck with them
>>
>>32917170
The rear sight on the Mk.II is dovetailed, but not the front sight. The Mk.II sights are significantly taller/bolder than the old, tiny sights, but the Mk.III sights are dovetailed front and rear and are bigger yet.
>>
>>32917201
You can still install Novak sights on the Mk I and Mk II
>>
>>32917070
I really like the rosewood ones, I wonder if they will look good on that color of park
>>
>>32917339
Rosewood always looks good. But park can vary pretty broadly in color, from black to shades of grey, some parkerizing even looks green.

Are you getting a milsurp Mk.III? A lot of the Mk.IIs and Mk.IIIs have an enamel finish, not a bad finish, but it's often worn right down to naked metal. That's the way my Mk.II was before I had it park'd.
