To be fair, the Celts who fought naked were generally the least operator.

They couldn't afford armor anyway so they figured they would go for shock value.

I read that it was for increased mobility and also to help prevent infection since theres no dirty cloth to get stuck in the wound.
>>
>>32912991

or maybe its just because they were superstitious idiots and thought going naked would give them a stat boost
>>
>>32912991
Yeah because the celts had deep knowledge of wound infection in a time when virtually no one else did after the Romans had fucked up
>>
>>32912876

To be fair armor at the time was one greave and and 8x8 inch bronze square over your heart, so it didn't matter that much anyways

Stat boost seems most likely.

seriously its not like they were running around in full plate
>>
>>32912991

Well yeah. They did do it for mobility. As for the infections stuff, clothing would probably keep wounds cleaner since it would keep extra shit from getting on you. Fighting in the mud, shit, blood abd so on, naked doesn't exactly help keep anything clean.

The main reason they did it was to be scary and a little faster. Celts basically bull rushed into most battles. Having a bunch of scary and fast dudes to chase down skirmishers always came in handy.

It totally depends on the era. Early bronze age Celts almost all wore no armor. Some nobles had a chest plate but that would be about it. Royalty and important warriors would wear cloaks and flashy clothes, or paint themselves to stand out. Later bronze age Celts wore leather armor of various styles. Then after that they had (possibly, nobody knows for sure) Ceannlann armor which was a type of chain or scale mail. But eventually they adopted armor pretty similar to that of the Romans. And it was supposedly pretty good. But only rich warriors could afford it.

As for fighting naked, it was not common practice. They did it from time to time (according to Rome) and it had religious connotations. Or for the shock and awe. The main reason any of them fought naked though was because they simply couldn't afford armor and in Celtic society you could futher your status through battle. So being the crazy painted naked guy was sometimes how they started 'movin' on up'

Reminder that the Romans conquered most of the known world (at the time), got up to Scotland, got wrecked by guerilla tactics used by 6ft tall hairy bastards who ran into battle with a raging hard-on, and got so scared they built a wall and ran away.

pretty sure they got hulksmashed by caesars legions
>>
>>32912820
Anything to get a fast roll.

Poise is broke anyway.
>>
>>32913563
They didn't get hulksmashed that's for sure. They lost to Caesar...then put up a fight in their remaining territories for nearly 100 years. The main reason Caesar beat the Gauls so quickly was that he allied himself with a few tribes then started pitting them against eachother. And in top of that, Germans were crawling through Gaul's asscrack.
>>
>>32913542
The main reason the Romans actually beat the Celts was because the Celts couldn't get over their petty bullshit and fight as one. By the time Vercintcorix managed to unite them, the Romans were already too dug in and had logistics that couldn't be matched.

Damn my people for being too...too...Celtic.
>>
>>32913542
By that point the roman army was stretched to it's breaking point and reinforcements were on the other side of Europe. Rome was still ahead in terms of attrition numbers but they didn't have the logistics to continue that kind of fight.

They still managed to hold a good chunk of the island up until the Empire shattered.

In modern times bullets will fuck you up despite armor stopping penetration.

Sure, a plate carrier can stop penetration, but you can get bruised the fuck up and broken ribs.

Naked is the most advantageous mode, exception being boots, a helmat, and a belt for pouches.
