So I'm getting a pretty good chunk of money from my tax return and I've decided to set $300-$400 aside for another cheap gun. I'm not a poorfag by any means, but I want to add something cheaper to my collection.

I'm thinking a milsurp handgun, maybe a rifle. I want something unique and with a little history.

The Tokarev and Makarov came to mind, but the aesthetics of the Makarov don't quite hit home with me, and I don't like the fact that the Tokarev's have tacked on aftermarket US compliance safeties. The CZ52 is a beautiful combloc weapon, but the firing pins are brittle and would have to be replaced with an aftermarket option.

I thought about an SKS too, but you can't hardly find any for under $430 these days. Classic Firearms has Yugos for about that much, but I don't know if I enjoy the wood aesthetics on those.

Recommend me some $300-$400 interesting or milsurp guns?

Keep an eye out for a euro made surplus hi-power. You can get a decent one for around your price range. A star model b comes to mind as well.

If you don't like the standard tok with the shitty safety get an M88A. It's basically a tok chambered in 9mm with a safety that was put on the gun by Zastava itself. It was made specifically for U.S. import so it doesn't have the shitty add-on's. Plus 9mm is cheap af and the gun goes for 250 dollars. I'm considering getting one myself since I'm a poorfag about to get my tax returns and about to get my concealed carry.
>>
>>32912183
Firing pins are stupid cheap, while your at it order some spare rollers, they go bad and are easy to replace and ate also cheap, like so cheap you may as well do it on one order to save on shipping
>>
>>32912330
I have one, its a nice single stack.
But a TOK gives you laser shots with cheap steal ammo.
Also lv IIIa armor sucks against 2 or 3 7.62x25 rounds. So practice your double taps on the draw.
>>
>>32912378
That's true, I have a Romanian Tok and I love it.
>>
>>32912183
I will sell you a CZ52 with upgraded firing pin and rollers for 250.
>>
>>32912330
The whole point of getting a tokarev is to shoot 7.62x25, otherwise there are other, better pistols in 9mm

Alright you raging faggots, I'm thinking either of getting a Type 38 or 99 Arisaka or P-83 Wanad, which should I go for

Beretta 92s police trade ins are going for under $300
>>
>>32912552
Yeah but he was looking for cheap milsurp. He didn't say he wanted a newer gun.
>>
....b-but I like my vz52 in 9mm...
>>
>>32912636
Nothing wrong with it but its like buying your one and only ak in 5.56 .... it works and all but you are kinda missing the goodness of .30 cal or 5.45 ak...
A 9mm is great for your second TT or cz52...but get the Tok first
>>
>>32912626
Hi powers can be had for a little more $
>>
>>32912669
Fuck Tok's, might as well get a 1903.
Vz 52 was factory 9.
I do want a vz in 7.62 though.
>>
>>32912183
I would recommend the TT-33 (or a variant) over the CZ-52. I owned both and I found the CZ to be slightly ammo picky and less fun to shoot than my TT-33.

In addition 7.62x25 is currently running 30+ cents a round right now. There is a whole argument about how bullet size, some people argue it is a .308 bullet and some argue it is a .310 bullet, so reloading data is inconsistent if you go that route.

The Cz52 is better than the Tokarevs in every way. So if you really want to use 7.62x25, then the Czechnology is for you.
>>
>>32912681
I've never looked into the browning hi-power. How much do they go for?
>>
>>32912704
A good 59% of my casings crack as well. Its a hot ass round, red army new production is all I shoot now out of mine, Got 3 tins of ppsh ammo stacked away unopened for shtf if it ever came down to it.
>>
New Zastava tokarevs are factory made with non shit safeties and only cost like $230
>>
>>32912716
Depending on condition and what country of origin, $250-600 for surplus, $900-1100 for actual browning mfg
>>
>>32912758
That's actually not bad.
>>
>>32912753
Don't forget zero parts commonality with all other tokarevs
>>
>>32912778
Why would this matter?
All but my aks, and ars have zero parts compatibility also
>>
>>32912183
>I'm getting a pretty good chunk of money from my tax return
That means you paid too much throughout the year. Up your allowances
>>
>>32912571
Nope. I'm in America I can just ship you the gun
>>
>>32912821
Replacement parts. The yugo toks are new production, so there isn't going to be a big supply of parts available. A surplus Romy Tok can use parts from a Polish or Russian variant if need be.
>>
>>32912869
so what? It's not like you're going to be operating with your tok, have something break and have to do a part swap with your battle buddy (and simultaneously brick his gun)
>>
>>32912924
No, but if you're at the range and something breaks you will be searching the deep web for parts. Yugo pistols can be hit or miss with quality and reliability

Why not both?

I prefer my Tok over my CZ-52. Given OP's options I would go with an SKS, preferably one of the Chicoms that a lot of shops have in stock.

>mfw I have too many payments to make this month so even with my refund I can't get a Glock like I wanted

A friend recommended I get a Bulgarian Makarov from Classic though. That's within my budget, so I might go for that.
>>
>>32912669
i have one, bought it in 9mm then bought a tok barrel from apex for 50 or 60, all you need to do to switch calibers is change the barrel.
>>
>>32912555
I recently picked up a type 99 with all the accessories. It's probably one of my favorite rifles in my whole collection. The finish they used on their rifles is absolutely beautiful. I've been seeing good condition Arisakas go for 1k-1.5k recently, but if you don't mind a scratched mum it knocks it down a lot.
>>
>>32912555
ammo is almost non-existent for japanese guns

>Make slightly over minimum wage
>Job is part of a work study scholarship
>Salary comes from finite pool of scholarship money
>Can't put down more than 10 hours on weekly timesheets otherwise money will run out before semester is over
>Tax return will only be $100 or so
I guess I can use it to buy parts for the AR I'm building...
>>
>>32912869
My Romanian Tok has a Chinese barrel, a Polish slide stop/release and a Russian recoil spring retainer. Really shows how universal the parts are.

Also, while the ammo is not really around any more, avoid 1952-53 Bulgarian surplus ammo since there are a lot of double charged rounds (this caused the barrel to form a crack in it and caused the gun to sieze up so bad I broke the slide stop getting it out (and lost the spring retainer as well)).
>>
>>32912752
Before I ran out of surplus, most of the necks would crack when firing, My CZ had a habit of cracking necks on modern production ammo.
>>
>>32913231
Southern Ohio Gun co. had unfired 60s-70s production maks for only $300 a while back. Still in cosmoline. I'd go for that. I got one and it's spotless
