It's half futuristic film noir and half existentialist philosophy with the occasional burst of violence. It is also beautifully shot and acted and directed and produced. It's weird and slow moving. All classic film noir has a small happy scene at the end to allow you to decompress from all the dark moody shit. Doesn't feel forced at all. It also leaves the question of Deckard's humanity up in their air, instead of shoving the answer down your throat.

There's at least one version that has some extra footage and has been remastered and all of that -- sort of an extended theatrical release -- but I can't remember which it is. Christ, how many versions are there now? Like eight or nine...? Theatrical release got the ball rolling. Theatrical release should be the way people start out. Ridley Scottaboos can explore the other later.
