In your case, you either need to get a n-pap or a wasr if you want the basic wooden ak look.
I'm not a big fan of the basic ak look, and absolutely hate slant brakes because they've given me pretty major accuracy issues on a buddy's vz2008 and I don't trust having one on anything I'd ever buy now. Took it off, and all's well though. Pretty easy to take to 400 yard after that was gone.

I'd always want a stamped personally, and regular ak thickness, not rpk thickness. Extra weight for no reason is pointless. If you want milled 762x39, I'd much sooner drop 1100 on a vz58.
Infinitely more consideration should be put on shooting accurate ammo from your ak than having pointlessly thick parts that are unlikely to help accuracy by more than a few thousandths of an inch, if that. I won't touch anything but golden tiger now personally when it comes to <30c/r ammo brands.

Just the cheap vz2008s century made with parts kits dried up. They're still decent guns, and were a steal at the price.
The real deals are imported pretty regular.

They're nicer all around rifles by a longshot when it comes to fit/finish/smoothness of the action. And the vz has some nice features like BHO to let you know when empty, and stripper clip loading of 30rd mags. They're pretty small too, especially if you have a folder stock.

And the way the folder works makes it very quick to deploy and aim on the spot.
And I find it's an ideal vehicle gun for another reason too. Using golden tiger ammo, it ejects softly enough to not risk chipping windows. Other brands tend to go into orbit it ejects so hard.

That model came with a sig red dot and front sight. The guy I bought it from had taken both off and put the scope on it. I put the red dot back on, but he lost the windage screw and roll pin for the front sight. The red dot works fine, although it's sighted way off, I need to zero it.

I'd much prefer an original 550 too, but this was as close as I'd get so I took it.

How much for the PSL? Bid it on gunbroker for 1100. They used to be much cheaper, but not for the last few years at least. I'm happy with that price. Comes with original LPS scope, and an adjustable Izhmash SVD stock.

Here's my original sight-in with my 4x. Just don't use garbage ammo, same rule as any gun.
Factory 188 surplus is great, same with LVE headstamped ammo.

I've seen in so many places that it is suggested not to fire anything but light ball. I ordered a spam can of Russian light ball surplus. I've also heard that it groups well will the lighter bullets. 147, 148 grain. The guns are overgassed and firing heavier loads seems to be harder on the gun.

Do not every use ammo over 150gr. It will literally break the gun over time.
It's got a much heavier bolt carrier than other aks, even other 54r aks. That's a lot of weight knocking into the rear trunion, which is weakened by the design back there.
Besides, I don't really like how heavy ball shoots vs light ball anyway.

I didn't intend to shoot any. I have ordered a heavier recoil spring preemptively in order to hopefully reduce the bolt carrier from slamming the rear trunnion. We will see how that performs.

The spring? It is an extra power AK spring from Wolff gunsprings. I have heard very good things about this spring. I just hope that it is a good fit for a PSL even considering that it is not a standard AK. If I am not mistaken, the PSL has a standard AK strength spring from the factory.

I had one at one point. It was not a terrible piece for the price. That being said it wasn't really something I loved to shoot so I sold it for a profit.

memeish for sure. id say its very similar in nature to a preban colt sp1. its got kind of an 70/80s charm to it, shoots and points well. more fragile than something like the sp1 though.
i bought one, bought another and was supposed to sell the first one but never did.

Supposedly the new CII builds (of which mine is an example) have soft barrels. I really don't see an issue with function. I have fired it a few times with flawless function and fair accuracy. I love shooting it, once I got used to getting a chin weld on the stock.

Ah shit. Looks like the PSL has a longer spring... Might end up putting the extra power spring in my AMD. It slings brass like a motherfucker right now so maybe that will tame it a bit.

Yeah I've heard all kinds of shit from the spergs on /k/ about how it's this and that, but the parts seem solid aside from the lack of chrome lined barrel. They are definitely the best deal on entry level AKs, but the price on them fluctuates by about $50 pretty often, be sure to never pay more than $500 for one.

That's what I paid for it. For 500 bucks, I'm not complaining. For some reason, one of the grips had been swapped to an AMP 69 grip. Not sure how they managed that, but I'm not complaining.

Probably next will be a pump shotgun or I semi automatic handgun I can train with to carry in the future.
Any recommendations on those? Also, how much better is it to get a 12 gauge over a 20? I know a 12 gauge would be great for home defense, but I feel like it would be a pain in the ass at the range considering how small framed I am.

I run the same setup on my 4 cell chicom. 4 30 rounders and the 2 side pockets have stripper clips. Great cuz I don't have to deal with partial mags, I just top off the current mag with the strippers. I love the vz58.

All my other gear goes on my belt and ruck.

Well the front is fine so your cheapest option would be to get a black stock and grip to complete the look. Alternatively you can make it look like a type 56 and get the furniture kid and bayonet lugs but that would cost as much as a new AK so its up to you (I plan on doing that to mine in the future). I would go with the first option but I am currently looking to buy an ak to tacticool out so im biased i guess. Mak90s are very well built AKs so treat her special.
