It's 2017. Obama and Hillary are out of the picture and I still can't find a decent priced brick of .22 LR on the shelf or behind the counter. $60-80 on average.

2 rifles, 5 pistols that are all hungry for the same plinking ammo. All I see at the range are AR builds or hunting rifles.

Why are people still hoarding this shit?@?!

Yeah, shit sucks. I saw people spending around 50c/r at the gun show yesterday.
Blame the asshole re-sellers who come in with 6 buddies and buy all of it from Sportco or wherever, blame the people who buy it from them, and above all else; blame the ammo manufacturers who continue to propagate the shortage for profit.
>>
>>32909091
I was at the Cabelas in Louisville a few weeks ago and they had .22lr for $0.05 a round. It was all weird brands though, no Remington or Federal or anything name brand. They had CCI, but it was closer to $0.10 a round.

Are they literally retarded?
Why would you buy 22lr for that when there's a ton of much more fun centerfire calibers you can shoot for anywhere from half of that cost per round.
>>
>>32909091
The problem is that you have a whole new cohort/generation of gun owners who believe that 8 cents per round is "cheap." Examples: >>32909244
>>32909338
>>
>>32909397
I'd guess it's because they want to shoot their .22's, but I totally agree. Plinking with a .22 is awesome because it's cheap and pretty quiet. Hopefully we can get back to the days of a brick of 500 for less than $10.
>>
>>32909091
What shithole do you live in? that exact box cost me $0.065 a round at LGS. In fucking Cook county, IL. And there was a further penny reduction if you bought 10 boxes. they had a huge display of these and other brands, this wasn't the cheapest.

>>32909362
50c/r for .22? Holy fuck

This. I have a hell of a time forcing myself to spend 6c/r after tax etc.
That's why, except for my sr22, I've pretty much just gone to centerfire. I mean, 762x39 or 223 isn't even 25c/r to shoot after shipping.
>>32909423
I want to shoot my 22s too, but screw these current prices when I own big boy guns.
>it's cheap and pretty quiet
Not really cheap. And not really quiet. I have a 22cal pellet rifle for quiet social shooting with the gf. Works great inside of 50 yards with irons.
>>
In my area I seriously did not see .22 on the shelves 1 single time from 2009 until recently. But it's back. Not full blown every store always has it, but it's around at the new normal price of around 6cpr. I sure miss 1.5 cpr .22 but I can live with it.
>>
>>32909469
>I sure miss 1.5 cpr
That's what I grew up shooting. 3-4 is where I'm comfortable now days. Any more and I'll leave it on the shelves for other people for the most part.
>>
>>32909447

Where do you live? That box of ammo is $28.99 at Academy, sure the price isn't great but with inflation and gun shows added, it really isn't that bad.

.22LR ammo availability and price issues are some of the reasons why I went for an AR-15 for my first rifle.

>2 rifles, 5 pistols that are all hungry for the same plinking ammo. All I see at the range are AR builds or hunting rifles.

why?!?!?
>>
>>32909091
.22lr ammo is everywhere, filling every shelf and in all the gun stores. pallets of the stuff from federal, winchester, CCI, remington and more. granted it isn't as cheap as it used to be, about $20-30 a brick, but it's there in quantity.
>>
>what is inflation?
IT'S NOT 1994 ANY MORE
>>
I bought a brick of CCI 22lr mini mag for 30 bucks at gander mountain in kenosha this weekend.
>>
>>32910990
>1994
in 2011 when I first got my 22, I was paying between $15-20 for a brick of 500-525 cci blazer ammo. You're retarded if you think inflation is the problem.
>>
>>32910990
>>what is inflation?
>IT'S NOT 1994 ANY MORE

Well in 2008 I could but a 550 federal bulk pack for 12.99 + tax ... ~$0.025 / round ... now the cheapest I can find is ~$0.065 / round but inflation says it should be ~$0.028

I thought the whole point of a .22 was the fact that they're cheap as shit to afford??

um...

yeah, that was the point, that's why OP is complaining.

>Hurr muh govt provided inflation stats

Inb4

>but the stats aren't from the govt just major financial institutions that work hand in hand with the Fed!

This has even been talked about in the MSM, provided inflation stats are incredibly manipulated and because a few commodities have had their prices manipulated to stay low the govt doesn't count the price increase on the other 99% of commodities as inflation.

At my store in GA, those are $40. Federal Automatch 325 Rd is $25. Sometimes they are on sell cheaper. Still expensive considering what they were a few years ago, but it is what it is.

>I think those are even remotely comparable

Remember how .22 cost billions of dollars to develop and is currently patented by a single company that is the only one that can produce it?

Yeah, me neither somehow.
>>
>>32914528
Every time there is a blue scare prices seam to jump and do thet ever go back down to a point comperable to inflation. No
>>
>>32909091
Blame the hoarders and price gougers. If you see someone hording .22 to resell, pummel them with the nearest blunt object until they stop being a fuckhead.
>>
>>32914578
This. I got into it with a reseller at a gun show who said Obama and manufactures were why .22 was so short handed. I called bs and said it was because people bought that shit all up as soon as stores opened so they could set up tables at shows and price gouge. He just smiled and said "that's democracy". I wanted to take his $70 brick of Remington thunderbolt and dump it down his throat
>>
>>32914453
It's already cheaper than that.
Even at 6c/r, which it is, I can barely bring myself to shoot the boring stuff when 762x39 is 22c/r plus shipping and can actually bring me real enjoyment.
>>
>>32909381
The last time was there they had the Federal automatch over by the gun counter. Check all the endcaps , they have a habit of putting ammo all over.
>>
Palmetto State Armory in Greenville SC had an entire half pallet of Federal 325 for $19.99 yesterday. An entire pallet total of various .22 ammos, including a bunch of browning 400 boxes for $27.99
>>
this drought is pretty shit 2bh

bought a sig mosquito, love shooting it but it can only feed cci mini-mags. i check lgs and every wallmart in the city every other week and they never have it in stock anymore.
>>
>>32916411
The sig mosquito can shoot cheaper 22 there's a process involving cleaning it if I remember correctly Google it.
>>
Jesus!
Still over 0.12? Hell, for that much I can stick to shooting gophers with 223 since I don't have to try so hard to sneak up on the bastards.

My last brick of 400 cost me less than $15. and I only just recently replaced the extractor on my 10/22 so I could go shoot 22 again. FUCK THIS.

I pretty much sold all my .22's

The only reason i owned them was for cheap, easy to find ammo. That era is over, so I had no reason to have them anymore.
>>
I never see it in big box stores, but my local gun stores usually have plenty of boxes on the shelf for decent prices.
>>

You guys need to learn to use ammoseek. It's been as low as 5.5cpr for at least a month now from some places.

That's actually pretty decent. I bought some bricks of Winchester white box for 5cpr last week at a local store too. By some miracle they had 5 500 round bricks in stock.
