AK fag here, just built my first AR lower. Surprisingly easy!

It cost me $164 for the whole shebang, $109 for the build kit (A2 style fixed stock from PSA) and $55 for the stripped lower (Anderson, what else) including the background check. Honestly considering popping out another one, probably an M4 config, in a couple weeks considering how cheap and simple it was.

I would get a tristand (used is cheap) and bolt your vise to that, or find a steel table (small welding tables are great) via Craigslist. I have a couple of bench vises I leave outdoors. It saves cleaning up after welding, grinding or paintin. I hit them with leftover paint randomly and that's more than enough.

If you have a yard you can leave a vise on a steel stand or workbench outdoors for many, many years. Just slather the vise screw with grease.

If you own a truck or your parents do, you can bolt a vise to a plate on a hunk of square tubing and slide that into your Reese-style hitch mount. You aren't likely to flip a truck when tightening a barrel nut.
