"The second-highest-ranking official at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has written a proposal to reduce gun regulations, including examining a possible end to the ban on importing assault weapons into the United States."

It's happening /k/, if this happens, we'll have no more gimped imports. This means Hk91, G36's, possibly SVT's and SVD's. Type 97's. Fuck yeah.

The Norinco thing was an EO by Clinton, unlike the 1989 assault weapons import ban which was an ATF thing like the 7N6 thing (they reinterpreted what sporting meant under the GCA). So, the Norinco thing is never going away. HK293s might show up, though.

China studies guy here, NORINCO ban is not going to be lifted in this lifetime.

It is a state-owned chicom company that supplies, even if tangentially, terrorists and insurgents with mortars and light arms used to kill American troops. There was an NGIC study about this. A very big chunk of IED materiel seized is surplus Chinese stuff they dumped into the middle east because they knew it would be used to kill Americans. They also routinely sell weapons systems to countries that state department heavily discourages arms sales to.

Oblique charity given to direct enemies in a shooting war and direct sales to our strategic enemies aside, they are also a hugely profitable arms production and key national security wing of a government we are (somewhat) openly hostile to.

>MFW I don't know whether to sell my SKSes while they're $400 apiece

>>
>>32905195
This doesn't affect machine gun ownership for private citizens. So I don't think prices will depreciate for those unless we see the '86 ban removed.

If they allow for newly imported semi-autos (which the reevaluation of the "sporting-purposes" interpretation could do), we would probably see imports from the Euro markets and prices for those might go down. Not sure how common the Sig 500s are on the non-American market, but we might see them.

Maybe it's because I'm not rich. My wife and I are solidly middle class, but gun collecting and shooting is something I've been into since I was a kid. So I've always seen it as a hobby for fun, and I don't believe in safe queens.

Here's a quick comparison of the 552 vs 553 bolt carrier. I don't have time to completely take the conversion gas system apart. 552 has a piston like an ak and the 552 uses a captured piston in the gas tube.
>>
>>32905441
yeah, here is verbatim what is stated in the letter:

"yo, dem gunz is loud as shit. Nigga can't get no rest with all dat riggin' in they ears. Shit, muzzle that bitch."
>>
>>32903523
Because the shoelace actually does turn it into a machine gun.

Deciphering legal jargon is difficult if you're stupid. If the device makes the weapon shoot more than one round per trigger pull = machine gun. The same logic can also work in your favor, because a device that's not designed as a stock but an "arm brace" does not equal a stock.

I think the ATF is overly demonized. Their main focus isn't on the common American gun owner, it's on gang/cartel members and domestic terrorists. Their job is to enforce laws made by the legislature, so it's the legislature that needs to be questioned when it comes to these laws. It's awesome when a law enforcement agency turns out to be on your side and doesn't want to enforce the stupid shit the legislature/judiciary wants them to, we'll see where it goes.

Do you drive a Nissan Leaf - if not you better not look up what Saudi Arabia's doing with your money.
>>
>>32904931

>T. Alex C
>>
>>32909922
I agree with everything you say, but given what NORINCO does, I believe it's in our best interest to deny them as much funding as possible.

I never said "national security risk" -- I said it was in our interests to deny the state arms manufacturer of the PRC any more funding than they're already getting.

And at the risk of sounding condescending, I probably know a little bit more about NORINCO and China than you do.
>>
>>32907320
IIRC it was because they had sold some sort of missile guidance systems to Iran, there was a prior Clinton era ban the covered most of their "assault weapon" esque imports, but they could still import sporting rifles, it took the Bush administration to fully cut off all imports.
>>
>>32909399
>No - executive orders are not irreversible.
Literally no one said that. I said it's never going away because
- only gun collectors really care
- China is the American government's boogeyman now that the Cold War is over
>>
>>32903477

I thought the whole god-emperor thing was a joke, but now...
>>
>>32906296

Right. Because that still ensures that you have discipline, customs and courtesies, understand military documentation, teamwork and coordination and the basic technical knowledge behind basic warrior skills... right?

Basic, as much bullshit as it is, is about a lot more than wedge formations and guns.

I can still set up a SINCGARS in less than a minute and stabilize tension pneumothorax in far less.

Call me when you graduate high school, we'll see about maybe getting your PT failure head-ass into a good MOS.
>>
>>32903648
Keep in mind that even if the ATF goes back to the pre-1989 definition of 'sporting purpose' Bush 41 banned 45 specific guns from importation, so they won't be able to be imported unless Bush's EO is thrown out
