Lot of variables. It *can*, I'd never rely on it. I've seen belted ammo, pistols, optics, and helmets all catch rifle rounds and stop them. It happens. Those things sure ain't fucking rated for it though.

If you're asking about rounds fired from 1000m and random glancing strikes; It's completely possible. But the chances of that being lethal at that range anyway depends on so many things.
