The Norwegian military is going to switch from AG-3 to HK416 as their primary military weapon. Your thoughts?
>>32900158
norway has a military?
Already happened, but now its going out of the hands of the homeguard too in favour of the hk416. I'm just saying, you never know when the enemy is hiding behind a fridge...
>>32900167
someone's gotta protect bouvetoya
>going to switch
Pretty sure they already did.
t. Estonian militiaman whose service rifle is an ex-Norwegian AG-3F2
Way easier for conscripts to use/shoot with, since they come with Comp M4's as well.
>>32900158
>is going
Nigga wat? There is like a couple 100 AG's left in use with some ancient home guard units, the switch came in 2008-2010
>In other news, the Germans seem to become unruly along our borders, that Adolf guy seems dangerous
>>32900193
>that Adolf guy seems dangerous
Wouldn't worry about it. He's a nice guy.
It's good news for their enemies.
>>32900206
Sweden and Denmark?
>>32900158
Ugh when will the .223/5.56 meme die already
Literally good for nothing bigger than coyotes
.308 is just better at putting a human down than 5.56
>>32900211
Dont want them to come and take our sweet sweet oil now, do we?
>>32900211
>>32900211
>find me outside howbout that?
>>32900158
I still have mine home guard bro here
>>32900158
Did I just go a decade back in time?
>>32900167
I think they even have universal conscription for dudes and chicks.
>>32900204
He's totally against commies. Nothing to fear Norway-bro.
>>32900167
I don't think they've got anyone worth fighting, but unlike most nato cunts they actually do spend a fair bit on their military
>>32900220
>>32900227
>>32900237
>this spooks the eternal Olaf
>>32900303
We are still way below the 2% mark though. And we have some amazingly in-efficient moneypits sucking up most of the funds.
But now that the Orange Goblin is shaking things up with NATO, maybe some new funds will open up.
>>32900316
Much the same here (Australia) where they spend arseloads on all manner of shit. I've met some of the Telemark guys and commando's from Norway and they're pretty decent guys
>>32900303
>I don't think they've got anyone worth fighting
If Putin decides he wants to take over some NATO countries (starting with the Baltic trio) then he is unlikely to just ignore likely allies to those countries in the region, especially NATO ones. If Norway wants to be able to fulfil its mutual defence promise, then it'll need to be prepared to fight for it, because neutralising the CVN Lutefisk would be an important part of any Russian military expansion in northern Europe.
This could of course suggest that merely leaving NATO and disarming would ensure their safety, but that Putin would eat up the Baltic countries and then just stop there with no thought of strong-arming his near neighbours into dropping their pant sand bending over, well, that'd be hard for Baghdad Bob to say with a straight face.
So just as for all other countries in the region, a strong defence and a mutual defence pact that is likely to be followed remains a very good idea. And that's just with the current situation, politics can bring forth new threats much faster than you can raise a modern, functional army.
>>32900211
Nigga wut?
With the EU in aparent decline a Kalmar-style cooperation is a very logical way of gaining/keeping some global influence. Will also make a lot more sense since that Scandinavian countries actually have similar styled goverments and a lot of shared culture, which (the lack of) is one of the main problems of European cooperation.
>>32900401
Yeah, but we mock the swedish and despise the danes. And epic bantz and shitposting beats common sense
>>32900158
Doesn't matter, they're never going to use it. First sign of trouble they'll rush to the Americans begging for help.
>>32900167
Only on paper.
>>32900401
>t. Brussels
>>32900412
I used both of them i Afghanistan, so sometimes we get to have fun
>>32900394
Kind of hard to say what the Russians will do now they're under another tzar, at least when they where just filthy leftists they where predictable. Though not a lot changes sometimes and they do like defending russian interests in someone else's backyard given a chance, the Baltics are full of people with Russian ancestry just like Ukraine was/is/whatever the fuck it is now.
So if they cooked off into some kind of trouble, they might intercede in their business.
At least the upside for Norway is there's crazy Finns and Swedecucks in the way if they ever went full, chimpout invasion.
>>32900481
>At least the upside for Norway is there's crazy Finns and Swedecucks in the way if they ever went full, chimpout invasion.
Yeah, you're not scheduled for a proper invasion until the third wave at the earliest. Still, better to fight Putin in Karelia and Estonia rather than at home, less boot prints on your carpets that way.
>>32900481
>>32900503
Its not like Norway shares a border with Russia and is situated a stone throw away from one of the most important naval locations for the entire Northern Fleet...
>>32900545
Slav's and boats just usually ends up a comedy though
>>32900550
Fair point.
>>32900297
No, they haven't had that in ages. It's a really good gig so lots of people want to join but they recently made it where there has to be an equal number of men and women joining so it's much harder to get in. Source is my buddy who has applied the last two years and not gotten in.
>>32900572
Well technically we have universal conscription, but in practice its highly selective due to a lot more personnel being eligible than we need.
Not to mention that a lot of units have transitioned to a semi-professional structure
/k/ has too much autism to answer OP's question
>>32900618
Okay. I have fired both of them. G3 is a good sturdy dependable weapon that you can take apart and put together while wearing mitts if necessary. It is also long with a butt like a paddle, which makes it a bit cranky in vehicles and crowded tents. Also iron sights only, for the common grunts anyway. The HK416, which I have handled only briefly though, is a wet dream when it comes to butt adjustment and the optical sights dances jenka around the G3 bucket sights. Also far comfier to shoot.
>>32900618
OP also seems to think thats its 2008, so its difficult to find the energy to answer him
>>32900550
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/200th_Independent_Motor_Rifle_Brigade
Saw some of their equipment while driving through Pechenga. A confrontation with the border guard without extreme reinforcements would be over quite quickly.
>>32900158
416 is a stupid meme rifle, whereas g3 is best gun ever made.
We had the HK 416 for years already in Norway
Jesus Christ are you stuck in a time bubble OP?
The only think is now that Heimevernet (National guard) are getting them too
All Engineers and drivers also have the MP7 previously MP5
If you ask me we should rather have gotten the Canadian AR successor
>>32901193
Last time I checked (combat)engineers have the HK.
>>32901211
A dude i know was issued MP7 was an Engineer and bridge builder
But i wouldn't find it uncommon no
>>32901193
I am currently in the HVU i belive we and some under 18 unit are the last to even use the ag3. The problem is that there are so many of them that we will probably end up using the ag3 for 10 years +
>>32901211
>>32901250
Its been a bit back and fourth to be honest. I was armored cav and had everything from AG3 and MP5 to HK, P80, UGL and MP7. Then just P80 and MP7. Then back to HK. Our NK almost killed himself in frustration because he had to do all the paperwork over and over
>>32901107
Oh yeah the Russian motorised regiments have always been pretty nasty and usually in quite large amounts of them.
More of the case the Russian navy managing not to fuck up in some hilarious and horrendous way trying to deliver them anywhere, anything they can roll over next to them though is going to be in deep shit
>>32900158
They already switched out the AG3 with the 416 looooong time ago. At the time they had the AG3-F2, sexy as fuck rifle, but sadly NATO standards meant they had to switch to 5.56. They first wanted the G36, and it was tried out by some forces, but they eventually went with the 416 due to it being good in most conditions, reliable, and the MJK and FSK was already used to the ar15 platform, since they used the 416 and C8. Pretty good deal, first batch had some faults with the stocks and internals, but the newest batch had no problems. FSK stayed with the C8CQB due to its heavier barrel, MJK use the HK416 11". The service rifle for most conscripts, specialists, etc. is the 416 with a 16" barrel, fits more or less most people.
They are also phasing out MG3's for FN MINIMI and FN Mag(for veichles).
Shot both the AG3 and 416, love both. 416 is probably the most modern and up to date rifle. But if I had to pick one, I'd pick the AG3F2, like a big black dick with a pdw stock and picatinny rail so it can fuck me hard.
>>32901303
i heard the retractable stock was kinda bad
>>32901316
Depends on how used the rifle was. F2 with vertical grip, retractable stock and aimpoint was pretty based
>>32901316
It was a case of aesthetic vs practical. The original stock had multiple settings, retractable stock was either in or out. But it was mainly the whole look of the gun that made it sexy. Verticle grip, picatinny rails, aimpoint, retractable stock, weapon light.
>>32901393
Also, full auto 7.62 helps the boner a lot
>>32901393
>Original stock
The only original stock that i know of was the good'ol paddle ore that i had to suffer with before i went cav. What kind of adjustable stock did you have?
>>32901419
Actually, nevermind, my memory must be mixed up. Original AG3 didnt have an adjustable stock. My sergeant had an AG3 and he modified it to have a smaller fixed stock if I remember right. It wasnt his service rifle so he did all kind of things to it.
>>32901483
Yeah that would make sense. We rigged one up to become a DMR in Mey, kinda miss that one
>>32900193
Nah I wouldn't worry about him, he's all bluster
>>32901290
Russkies managed to not only get into our country in 1944 but they were fighting the Germans all the way at the same time. They were welcome too. It is hard to imagine that they could not drive along the tracks again if and when they want to, and a great lot faster as well. And it's provided they don't make use of Swedish roads too if they feel like. What could the Swedes do, write a letter?
>>32901588
russkies would have to go through sweden to take norway.
just blow up the 1 road heading south, and you have stopped their advance in norway.
at least theres some advantages to having shitty road network
>>32901483
Basic G3 had the long fixed stock. There was a shorter fixed version which they had in small amounts and issued mostly to female soldiers iirc. We male guys weren't exactly offered a choice.
>>32901620
the fixed women's stock was shiny and not so rugged
Can someone cast some light on the fact that OP somehow havent cought up to something that happened 10 years ago? I mean, some parts of Norway is remote and all that, but not this much
>>32901697
It is forgivable. Wiki article on the topic is dated 2008.
Why the fuck doesn't the HK 416 have a chrome-lined barrel?
>>32900215
5.56 is fine unless you use that m855 crap
Surplus parts when?
>>32901844
But it does? The MR556 does not though, afaik.
>>32900158
Get them second hand cheap from Fermany
