What would you find more useful, the do-it-all stuffit pouch or 2 more pistol mag sized utility pouches? Aside from them using an X harness as opposed to H harness, that's the only difference I'm aware of.

I would say no, not because the monetary value doesn't add up, but because I don't trust condor for anything besides maybe some spare mag pouches. I gave them a shot many years ago when I needed a spare, small hunting pack in a pinch and the stitching was ripping apart after a single weekend of mild abuse. I can only imagine their carriers to come with the same lack of quality in the material and stitching department.

If you're going to buy a set of level IV plates, you might as well spend the money on something reliable and comfortable to carry them in.

If you're going to get a pack, you might as well spend the extra money on one that's not going to fail on you in the field.

Tourniquets and mag pouches are cheap so don't factor those in too heavily.

My .02, for whatever that's worth.

>>
>>32900119
No. Its shit. SHIT.

There are better, cheaper milsurp options. The official ballin' on a budget loadout around here would be a ChiCom vest + pistol belt. Like $25 for both together. It leaves plenty of spare cash to buy your own medical pouch, med contents, holster, etc.
>>
>>32900119
No. Save your pennies and get a chest rig. If your poorfag get chicom, if your willing to spend 150 get dc3r or spiritus rig or many other great options.

Don't buy condor pc. If you have enough money to buy plates then get a good plate carrier.
>>
>>32900135
One time I bought one of those Condor day packs at a gun show because it was super cheap. Took it on a field exercise. It was literally falling apart by the end of two weeks- and I didn't even ruck much with it, it mostly just held gear in my truck.

I've also seen a hard plate fall out of a Condor vest when the Velcro failed.

Sounds about right. Mine had a shoulder strap separating at the seam with about 30% left attached. Two big rips along the zipper seams. Material at the bottom had started thinning and would probably develop holes in short order. A single damn weekend of very mild use...would honestly take a jansport school pack over a condor pack if I had to choose between the two.
>>
>>32900278
Same anon here.

I have a Targus "laptop" backpack, and I've taken that thing all over the world. Exposed it to ocean spray, heat, snow, all kinds of airports and subways, etc and it has held up like a champ.

Plus no "operator tax" for it.

Alright I need to start getting a belt setup for 2gun but I dpn't really know where to begin. I want something that I can use for playing /gq/ in the woods but won't look full autist at a comp. Right now I think I need a double mag pouch for my M&P mags, a belt that could go into a battlebelt setup, and either a double AR mag pouch or 2 singles. I also want to be able to toss my IFAK onto it for /gq/ stuff. Any suggestions as to where to start?

For the inner belt, buy a cheapo USGI rigger's belt and a set of the sew-on cobra buckles off amazon. Should run you $35-40 tops, including sewing.
>non-chinkshit basic rigger's belt, $8.50
https://www.amazon.com/Propper-Tactical-Duty-32-34-Khaki/dp/B004XW1SPM/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1486393749&sr=8-14&keywords=riggers%2Bbelt&th=1&psc=1
>chinkshit but well reviewed cobra buckle set, $19

(it says it's no-sew but I've always had to sew mine to keep it from slipping)

The outer belt is a lot of personal preference, but IMO get one that allows a pass-thru to the inner belt so you can use a standard jacket-slot holster or RTI holster plate.

I like the HSGI Slim Grip.

Hell no. Get a chicom rig for $10, or a milsurp FLC for $25 if you want to customize. Those molle pouches really rack up the cost though, so you might want to find a set that comes with some for no more than $70.

/GQ/ woodsmen, sell me on ferro rods. Why are these the "go to" fire starting thing for survivalist types as opposed to lighters?

I don't pretend to be a master woodsman, but I was in the Army for a long time and I camp pretty often, and I've never had a lighter up and fail.

Ferro rods seem like almost a faux woodsman thing people do to be more impressive. Like, "Oh look at me, I can do outdoorsy stuff!" rather than a practicality. I've looked into some of the reasoning for them and come across pages like this which run pretty close to my thoughts. http://woodtrekker.blogspot.com/2014/07/ferro-rod-vs-bic-lighter.html
>>
>>32902339
Sick Crye's mang.
>>
>>32903470
The disadvantage to a lighter is they wont work if really wet. Its safe to say that if you plan on making a fire your probably better off with two fire sources.. IE. One flint, One lighter.

If im camping I just bring a lighter, leave it in my car if its raining, and start some tinder in there and bring it to my larger area. If im building a hiking bag or 'BOB' or whatever, I pack a flint and a lighter.
>>
>>32903470
Ferro rods are garbage. Just bring a couple bics and you'll be fine. Stick one in your pack and one in your jacket, remove the child safe thing from the wheel, and you're in business.
>>
>>32903510
Stick it in a ziploc if you're worried about it getting wet.
>>
>>32903537
>>32903528
>>32903510
So they are basically an outdoorsman's meme then? I mean, I've got one- just a cheapo thing from some sporting shop and it certainly works, but it just takes exponentially more effort than a lighter.

>>32903510
>The disadvantage to a lighter is they wont work if really wet.

Read the above link about that. I think it's an issue that's overblown. Blowing the lighter's wheel dry is still less effort than whacking a piece of magnesium.

I do pack the cottonballs rolled in vaseline for fires though- that is something I've actually found to be SUPER helpful and not just a meme.
>>
Is laser cut a blend of slick and molle?
I'm looking around at PCs and have been learning more towards slick but I'd like more modularity than just swift panels.
>>
>>32903660
>>32903537

meh. Like I said really wet, ive never had a problem with it in just the rain, but ive fallen into lakes and had problems where I couldnt just blow it dry.
>>
>>32903785
The downside of lasercut is that it exposes the plate directly to the elements a bit more. You could get a plate cover, but then you've got two layers of cloth and defeat the whole point of laser cut instead of normal PALS webbing.

If you want a slick, I'd say get a slick. It keeps you from massively overloading your plate carrier with gear anyway- MOLLE Syndrome is a major disease that afflicts people with more access to MOLLE than they have experience.

has anyone used the Helium Whisper style attachments for pouches? Are they basically just like molle straps?
>>
>>32902339
Nice.

Anyone know where to get woodland CRYEs?
>>
>>32903844
My molle rig is pretty minimal so I'm sure I can keep clean of overpouching myself.
But do you need to keep plates covered from elements? Obviously you don't want to leave them outside year round in the rain but I had always thought linings or coatings would protect the important bits. Or are those to protect more from drops?
I'll probably end up with slick but the sexy allure of laser cut, it calls out to me.
>>
>>32903925
You don't want to expose them to too much UV or water. It's like a single drop of rain hits your plate and *poof* it's unusable, but over time improper storage will take it's toll. Why do that to such an expensive investment?

$150 by itself, $250 with soft armor?

The CIRAS is designed to work with 2 IBA back panels. I've got an IBA back panel in front and the split front panels plus nutflap in back. It works but isn't 100% right.
>>
>>32903470
Ferro rods work when wet and will provide more lights than even a brand-new bic. They can also be tethered so you really don't have to worry about losing it, and they weigh basically nothing (sub-1oz).

But the bic is easier. IMO I'd have 2-3 Bic's and a ferro rod stashed somewhere.

Gel carpenter's kneepads if you have to have anything.

Wear them inside your pants against bare skin so they don't end up around your ankles after 200m of walking.

It's on of the cheaper ronin tactics models. I've not used it a lot but it is breddy nice. One thing I have found out about these Velcro belts that I didn't think about before is that when you put on the inner belt, you need to be sure that you tighten it to the same length when you adjusted the outer belt, if not, you will have to readjust the outer belt, which can be a pain in the ass.
But over all it's pretty awesome. I can't wait to get a dump pouch and more mag carriers.

I have a tyr small cutaway ifak, love it. No other tyr pouches, but I might buy some, who knows. I use it both ways. Padded belt if I'm wearing over layers and can't access my belt line, velcro belt any other case. The velcro is less comfortable but the belt doesn't move. Since It's not uncomfortable, I recommend rolling with the velcro inner belt whenever you can

You sound like an idiot. Im gonna guess youve never treated a GSW before, or for that matter even had a job where you had to carry an IFAK. gotcha. I'd like to be able to sit comfortably in my setup, so mounting it on the hip or like 9 o clock seems like a better idea, just figured I'd ask someone/some people who know more than me if there were any glaring faults.

When I was in .mil I exclusively ran it on my PC because our belts were shit, so It depends on your belt set up and how it feels to you, comfort also plays into it. If you have a small tear off one, you can place it on your 6 o clock and be able to get at it with either hand, and if its small enough and depending on your belt it shouldnt be too bad when sitting. Youll prob just have to try out different positions for your personal set up

Probably going to give it another go as soon as I find 2 more bottles of black dye.

I hunt out west a lot.

I really really like A-Tacs FG, and it would be a phenomenal "do all" hunting pattern, but the only pants I can seem to find in it are Propper BDU-cut (winter cotton twill only at that), Crye at $200 a pair, or chink-knockoff Crye at $60 a pair.

Any suggestions? I don't need a bazillion pockets or integral kneepads, just a plain old 4-6 pocket hunting pant.

guise seriously the only things I keep in my pockets while hunting are my wallet (which contains any and all licenses) and a pocket knife. I do not need anything more than front slash and 1 ass pocket, cargo pockets are a total waste and anything on the legs themselves is outright detrimental.
>pockets on front of thigh
Great if you're opr8n opr8tionally and need them to clear a dropleg or kneepads, but suck dick if you ever have to prone out
>ankle pockets
So your 11th and 12th AR mags can flop around and bruise the shit out of your ankle bones because you're either wearing low-top gofasters or 8" "combat" boots with just thin-assed nylon over the only bony protrusion south of your knees.
>not 1 but 3 super-special secret-squirrel knife pockets
So when you really really need your knife in a hurry you can't remember which fucking pocket it's in. Also 2 of them are in the perfect spot to get snagged out by every seatbelt ever and interfere with climbing harnesses and Swiss seats.
>pelvic pockets
Great, so whatever you have in there can mash against your battle belt, which in turn drives the bottom edge of your plates into your diaphragm every time you bend over.

Yeah I don't use my thigh pocket except for the front top one and that's got a small blowout kit, IFAK what have you.

I don't keep much in my pockets. Phone and Wallet if I'm out shooting can go in the regular pockets on them. If I REALLY need a place to put them where they're not gonna fall out the side thigh pockets will do.

As far as i know the G3's don't have many squirrel pockets and yeah ankle pockets are retarded.

Yes, because cotton twill pants some illiterate conscript got assraped in, in either a garbage camo pattern or mud-brown, are such wonderful things.

Honestly I really like the idea of integrated knee pads in hunting pants and think the Crye ones would work well without being noisy or hindering movement too bad, but I really can't have loose fabric just out there with where I hunt due to a prevalence of briars.

I really wish someone would take the integrated knee pad sleeve from the ACU pattern and put it on BDU-cut pants.

Don't want all-cotton and they're not available in camo patterns. Also heavy AF. I have some, and like them for manual labor, but they have a lot of drawbacks.

>6" Israel bandage

Everything else (bandaids, ibuprofen, paracetamol, tweezers, antiseptic, sports tape, etc.) will go in a container somewhere else in my kit (probably my day pack), as they would just clutter the IFAK, and result in the IFAK being opened and closed when it doesn't need to be.

Alright so I am narrowing down choices on a belt setup but need some opinions. I have decided that going for a full on battlebelt type deal isn't what I want to do. I am thinking about grabbing a riggers belt, 2 pistol tacos for belt mount, either 1 or 2 itw fastmags, and a tyr tactical small cutaway ifak. I already have a belt compatible holster for my M&P.

I haven't decided yet on what brand riggers belt and whether to put one or 2 fastmags on my belt since it might start to get heavy. Any suggestions on the belt and whether to use 1 or 2 fastmags?

Also would it make more sense to grab 2 single pistol tacos so I could choose to use one or both?

I'm not too worried about not liking the belt I am jsut more concerned about getting a quality one that won't break the bank. I've been looking at hsgi and vtac but am wondering if there are any other options out there around the same price range.
>>
>>32912287
Buy the cheapest web rigger's belt you can find. I've seen them as low as like $3, and Propper (USGI-tier, some of their shit even has NSN's) sells them for like $13. Buy it like 1-2 sizes too big, you can always tuck the tail. Get one that doesn't have the delta ring.

Set it up a bunch of different ways to see if you like it.

Once you find a setup you like, cut the original buckle off, buy a cobra buckle set off Amazon for under $20, and pay a sewing shop to sew it on your cheapo belt for like $5 (or do it yourself if you can do bar tacks).

Voila. Custom-sized cobra rigger's belt for about half of what any respectable commercial cobra belt costs.

It should be. I'm using a USGI rigger's belt just as it came (complete with POS slide buckle) as my 3-gun belt right now with 3x AR mags and 2x pistol mags plus holster and dump pouch.

The only issue is, the top edge will start to roll after a year or two of use. Not the end of the world and mostly cosmetic.

Maxpedition also works for this as far as single strap packs go, but be aware once you start putting more than 10lbs in it you're probably going to hate it. IMO you'd be better off getting a dual strap pack for stability, and there's a lot more companies that produce them that work well over armor, with your buttstock, chest rig, etc. Many of us will be able to recommend you smaller bags better IMO.

Just picked up a reflective panel (smaller than I'd like, but easily packable), emergency blanket, iodine tablets, grape whistle, socks, and tiny fire stick for my waif's first real outdoors pack. Going to be adding a lot of my own surplus gear to it. Still short a good medium sized knife, sleep roll, and other stuff for her but it's a good start for a couple of days innawoods pack.

Been doing day hikes with her in fall and introducing her to outdoors skills during winter. Finally going to be doing some light whole day or overnight stuff out of packs now that it's temperate.

>20lbs of probably Coghlan's-tier bullshit
>going to be adding a lot of my own surplus gear to it
>"light whole day or overnight stuff"
A good lockback folding knife in the ~3" blade range, a Sawyer mini filter, and a 3-pack of Bic lighters is all you need for normal camping shit.
>knife gets you shelter, fire, safe drinking water, and food (plant-based anyway)
>lighters ensure that if it's flammable you can burn it and reinforces the above
>fire gets you emergency signaling, warmth, and safe food (and apex predator proofing)
>filter gets you a year's supply of clean and safe drinking water without the bullshit of boiling it
Other than that, pack first aid supplies and a brain.

My entire 5-day backpacking setup weighs under 15lbs without food and water, which make up the majority of the weight I carry, and I didn't spend thousands of dollars on the gucciest ultralight bullshit.
>North Face 30* sleeping bag I picked up on clearance from Campmor for like $50
>surplus USGI sleeping mat I trimmed to 3/4 length and to shape of my sleeping bag, $5
>Big Agnes 2-person tent REI had on sale for like $100
>Osprey 50L backpack from Amazon for $70
>Jetboil Zip, ~$75

>20lbs of bullshit

Not really. Keeping it pretty light. It's all fitting inside an REI daypack. I'm packing a little extra of stuff like compasses and mirrors and such so I can pull them out to show how to use them. The whole pack with food and water is going to be pretty compact.

Bringing extra water just for peace of mind this time put even though filtration is going to be demonstrated and used.

Have two first aids for my pack, the sexy trauma tacticool IFAK, and an internally packed kit with tweezers, antibiotic cream, moleskin, safety pins, pills, salt & sugar and similar little stuff.

Carrying lighters, MRE matches, and fire sticks. Fire sticks mostly for demonstration purposes, lighter for practicality. Packing cotton balls kneeled in Vaseline.

Everything zip locked/stuff sacked and labeled.

My pack has a large tarp, some poles and 550 loops. Combined with GI ground pads it's pretty decent sleeping. Two sleeping bags rated for the area temps. Taking a Woobie this time for comfort.
>>
>>32913232
>fire sticks
>demonstration purposes
Nigger there is nothing to demonstrate about "put fire stick in soon-to-be fire, light with lighter"

If you wanna teach her, teach her stuff that actually requires skill and not just reading the back of the package to her. Teach her how to actually use a map and compass, teach her how to make fur sticks, teach her how to find dry kindling in a fucking downpour, how to build fires that withstand wet weather and/or high wind.
>MRE matches
Those are literally worthless as they will literally disintegrate the second they get mildly damp. Get a pill bottle and a box of wood safety matches. Glue a square of the strike surface to the inside of the lid or just drop a strip of it down the inside, and fill the pill bottle full of them.
>filtration is going to be demonstrated and used
Make her read the packaged instructions for whichever filter you have. If she doesn't get it right on the first try after reading the instructions, never ever take her off pavement ever again as she's clearly too retarded to not be a total hindrance every step of the way. I literally taught my 7 year old niece how to use an MSR pump filter by handing her the instructions (which had pictograms).
>sleeping under a tarp
Have fun having dew on everything, bugs in everything, and a rattlesnake coiled up under the foot of your sleeping bag in 70% of the US.
>>
>>32913337
Ok.

Notice I packed compasses and such too? Simple demos sometimes work as good as more advanced.

The tarp worked well enough across the local area, as well as in much worse places for me. Using as a type of half shelter not just a big sunshade. MRE matches always worked as a backup, though mentioned lighters are the primary.

You are pretty angrus. Going overnighting and slowly introducing some basics here while having a bit of fun.
>>
>>32913463
I am angry. I am angry because you're not "slowly teaching some basics", you're espousing using the wrong shit for the wrong job *and* you're foisting your wrong ways on someone else. Literally you are saying you're gonna teach her shit that even the Cub Scouts knows is dumb and/or worthless.
>tarp worked well enough across the local area
A tent is lighter, probably more compact, and works better. Good 2-person tents are cheap enough the price difference is very minimal.
>using as a type of half shelter not just a big sunshade
Because being enclosed on 2-3 of 4 sides stops 100% of bugs and snakes as well as being fully enclosed on all sides with bug mesh, like a tent, right? Or how about that nonexistent floor, meaning if you get anything more than an intermediate drizzle everything you own is soaked?
>notice I packed compasses and such too?
Yes, and I also noticed you made no mention of maps.
>simple demos sometimes work as good as more advanced.
Extremely rarely and only when done by somebody who actually knows both what they're doing and how to teach. Which clearly isn't you.
>MRE matches always worked as a backup
"disintegrates after being exposed to 75% humidity for 5 minutes" sure doesn't sound like "always worked as a backup". Why would you carry something that is both fragile and has very specific storage requirements as a backup to something that is neither fragile nor has specific storage requirements? Especially when there are better options in the same category that cost the same (IE, free)?

>>
>>32914034
>Guys I want a vehicle
>dont just tell me to get a car or a truck
>>
>>32914034
The problem is that you came in with a question that is quite literally only going to end up with "get a plate carrier and an IFAK" because vague questions get vague answers.

What type of plate carrier do you want? Minimalist? Scalable? Full size? Kevlar armor carrier? What type of pouches do you like: polymer single mag holders? Kangaroo pouches? Single mag open top? Double mag cloth top? Single mag cloth top? How do you like your cummerbunds, airlite? Full cloth with or without SAPI inserts?

In case you couldn't tell, what we're getting at is this: If you don't know what you want, don't expect anything but smart ass answers because we're not going to waste our time sifting through all the gear out there to give you suggestions that add up to getting warmer or colder based on your vague desires.

Nobody has a problem recommending gear when it starts somewhere that's likely to lead to an end, but basically you're asking us to play a full round of gear queer marco polo.

If you don't know what you want, watch some Gear Hitler videos or read the sticky or anything else. Don't just adopt a trip and expect all your desires to be filled.

Also: no, not responding is not an answer because then it becomes the "well they ignored me" game. You need to know your shit has been read and scrapped so you don't ask the same stupid question every time a new thread appears.

I don't know the differences from Scalable and Full Size. I don't know what is better for what task.

> If you don't know what you want, don't expect anything but smart ass answers because...
/k/ used to have infographs for things like this, which is what I was hoping to get,
