Anyone besides me got a mad love for the S&W model 29. You know what used to be the "worlds most powerful handgun". Especially when it's got a 6 1/2 inch barrel and blued in color.

I just recently watched the dirty harry movies for the first time and i definitely fell in love with it. Im going to get one. Only turn off is youll get hearing damage from using it inside.

A revolver or a model 29?

If you're asking about revolvers in general, yes they're very good for CC.

Revolvers have a multitude of advantages over automatics, and I am personally transitioning from a P938 to a J frame.
>>
Hate my 4" model 29. It hurts to shoot so im selling it.

Oh I know the 29 wouldn't make a good concealed carry. I was asking about the Redhawk but still I'm looking for a good carry revolver as well

>>
>>32896038
LGS has one with a 5 or 6" barrel for $600. It's pretty and feels nice, but what do they offer over newer and maybe cheaper guns like a GP100 or 686 other than being bigger?
>>
>>32897529

>>32897537

It's the best damn revolver I've ever shot. I heard the 586s were made better than the 686 but I had to see it to believe it.

This gun feels like a Korth, I've shot my father's Korth and to he fair, this particular smith feels smoother and better in almost every conceivable way.

The trigger on it is amazing. And if you get the six inch model you'll be absorbing a lot of recoil and squeezing out all the power the .357 has to offer in a handgun.

10/10 will recommend.

I own this custom 8 shot 627 and I still prefer the 586

>>
>>32899315
Because you can't make a cheapshit polymer revolver frame the way you can with a semi-auto.

That and economy of scale.
>>
I think the reason that revolvers are getting so pricey is that less people want them because of the fact they have less rounds than a semi.
>>
>>32900501

If less people want them wouldn't raising the price discourage even more people to get them?

Bought this 629 about a month ago and love it. Just to be an asshole ive open carried it twice (I'm in Memphis, so carrying is a great idea and concealing this thing is not really possible) to get tacos in a bad part of town. No one gave a shit except the iranian gas station clerk who said "nice! Is Cowboy gun!"
>>
>>32900501

It actually probably has a lot more to do with them taking more work to make a decent revolver.

Any roach or Chink can pump out stamped steel or polymer automatics, but truly nice revolvers take a fair bit more work.

Huh, just got a message that I was banned for a month for a post in /a/ I never made. And also I have been posting for that entire interval so it's news to me. I guess it's because I am phoneposting? Never had that pop up in many years on this site.

Speaking on bluing, While I agree bluing is sexy, I just hate the fact that I constantly have to oil rag it every time I touch it.

Stainless has become popular with both Smith&Wesson and Ruger.

Is bluing going the way of the dinosaur now that blackened stainless, melonite, tennifer and cerakote exists?

My GP100 and colt commander are blued and only have minor holster wear, scratches and bald spots...I'm thinking of having them cerakoted matte black.

Same here, inherited my Dad's pre H Hole Smith&Wesson as a display piece in a velvet lined box...for carry and duty use I have a collection of Rugers. Because I refuse to deal with the H Hole.

Cosmetic wise Rugers don't bother me, I kind of like the full shroud, but they do need trigger jobs sometimes. Seems tandom that one Ruger will have and excellent trigger while the one right next to it is gritty and they a both just generic GP100's, same model number, mayerial and everything.

Not hard to find a used ruger Redhawk or super Redhawk in that price range.

A blackhawk is very easy to find for less than that.

With a little luck you might see a used 629 at that price on occasion but it is rare.

Expensive As Hell Scale:
Under $150 - Meh, christmas present
150-300 - Okay I guess
300-500 - Kinda pricey
500-800 - I could get a fucking computer for this (a budget gaming rig actually), or a nice semi-auto

800-1300 - This better fucking be good, I could buy a "sporting rifle" for this

1300+ : I could buy a fucking used car instead, goddamn. Or a downpayment for something. Or the initial rent and damage deposit to move into an apartment.

Also $300-400 is a full month's worth of FOOD.

> Gun Prices in America
$200 range - Pump Action 12 Gauge
$300 range - Pic related, or 357 snubnose
$500 range - new in box Glock, Beretta, 44 mag revolver, and most other pistols worth a damn.
$700 range - decent quality M1911
$1000 range - just about any fucking Semi Auto rifle you could want, like a PTR-91

> 2500 euros
Thats a fucking single shot .50 BMG right there. There are even some 50's that go for $2500 or $3000.

You guys sure are lucky when it comes to certain guns. I paid 1350 for my P210, 870 for my Python and I got really lucky with my Manurhin MR22 with only 430.
Anything "Made in America" (in the last 20 years) is completly overpriced in europe. Ruger is the worst in that regard...and the few SCARs that come to europe. They are like 4-5k and germans can´t even own them because FN can´t be fucked to have it classified over here.

redhawks also lack a very crucial feature for high powered revolvers and that is a muzzle brake of some kind to eat up recoil

ill never consider one, if I was going to spend big bucks on a revolver it would be a s&w 460 with a compensator - and I would be firing 454 casull or .45LC high pressure rounds through it

I have a particular distain for single-action (old west) appearance revolvers anyway, I prefer modern style grip shapes.

anything "made in america" (in the last 20 years) is shit too.
at least we get relatively cheap euro made HK, sigs tanfos and CZ.

also I'm a student and just bought a 2500 euro mr73. talking with a guy now, thats selling a 600$ 8 3/8 model 29-2.

so it goes both ways, we get new euroguns at roughly the same price as burgers. but us guns are fucking crazy. old guns are cheap, both us and eu guns. since its harder to hoard guns here, and people buy less guns and keep them longer

>$500 range - new in box 44 mag revolver

Which fucking 44 magnum revolver is brand new for $500 that isn't a shitty Taurus?
>>
>>32904485

These are some fucked up and wrong dollar amounts.

You can find a pump for $200 but it's going to be beat to shit or a chinese clone.

You won't get a good brand of 357 for $300, unless it's- again- beat to shit.

Glocks are in the $500 range for the most part not counting blue label guns but new berettas are normally more, and at least there are a lot of affordable used ones. But many other popular brands, like Sig, HK, and anything other than entry level are going to be significantly more than $500.

1911s are often more than $700 for anything other than RIA or a low end springfield. Not that those guns aren't fine, but it's disingenuous.

$1000 only scratches the surface on semis outside of mid range bare bones ARs.
>>
>>32904259

People who take it seriously will spend in that neighborhood in the US. USPSA shooters will often have 3k+ STIs.

That said the affordability scale is a lot more in the US's favor and there are a lot of better low end options that you probably don't have access to.

If you wish to include a note with your gun explaining what ammunition you were using when the gun malfunctioned it may help our gunsmith to determine whether or not the damages will be covered under warranty or they were due to negligence.
At this point I said fuck you guys. I'm gonna hawk this gun for whatever I can get out of it to a gunsmith and go buy a Ruger. Went out and bought a Ruger the very next day and haven't looked back. Got rid of all of my Smiths. I would probably be happy with another smith 38 special some day but only if i could find one used at a killer price. i'll never own another Smith magnum ever again.

Hint: there are no bear here, I intend to keep it that way

The front sight is milled out of the barrel blank, as in it's all one piece. No welding/pinning/soldering.

The orange/red ramp insert is pressed in to the blade though. It's in there very secure however.

This here is my 629. It's a dash 4 model, so it's got the "endurance package" for steady diets of magnum loads.
At first I wasn't sure about the 5 inch barrel, I was prowling the gun show for a 6.5 inch blued model, but after picking it up off the table I fell in love with the balance of it.
If you ever see one of these 5 inch full lug guns in the wild get a hand on it, you might be surprised how well you like it.

Is that finish supposed to simulate tripping on acid?

guys on the s&w forum says the ramp was pinned in the 60s and milled after that, the blade is pinned but polished flush according to them

Where do I get that exact bluing and wood grip? I don't like any grips besides wood on my 1873's
