What can /k/ tell me about this caliber?

Is it worth the investment for a bolt action in this caliber for varmint hunt and plinking?
>>
Bump for further info plox (you know you fags are better that jewgle...just dish already)..
>>
I've been thinking either that or .22 magnum.

But damn, rimfire is shit. I hate it that you can't even dry fire without damaging the gun, and the ammo itself is unreliable.

It's a very nice case for wildcatting, but it's been far superseded for actual use.
>>
>>32891466
Not true on a lot of modern guns. If a Rumford rifle can't be dry fired it's because the firing pin is in alignment to hit the barrel face without a round in the chaimber. A lot of rifles now have the firing pin lowered so it won't strike anything other than ammo or air.
>>
>>32891600
Not true for the savage mark II.
>>
>>32891600
Does that apply to the 10/22?
>>
>>32891662
Ruger says it's ok. The simple thing to do is take your barrel off (easy) and just look to see what clearance your pin has.
>>
>>32891616
I'm surprised savage kept their fudd ways.
>>
>>32891466
Pretty sure the ruger 10/22 and 22/45 have firing pin stops that prevent the pin from striking the breech face.
>>
>>32891423
Unless you just want to be a hipster, it doesn't do anything the .223 does. Except cost a lot more I mean.
>>
>>32891789
This. If you want the hobby of wildcats...Cool bro. No judgement here. If you just need to blast some critters, common ammo is out there that will splatter em' the same.

just get a .223 Remington.
will outperform 22 hornet and the ammo is more available and cheaper.
>>
>>32891975
this.
anything else your wasting your fucking time.
hand load for .223 you can make some crazy loads.
also there is alot of different loads out on the market you could just buy at the store.
>>
>>32891423
Either .223 or .22tcm if you're looking for lower bullet weights for whatever reason
>>
>>32891423
I have an old Krico in .22 hornet. What I can say about it is: extremely mild to shoot. The 22lr feels more aggressive in a way. It kills small game much quicker than my 6.5X55, black grouse just turn upside down and die. Precision up to 100-120 meter is phenomenal, ultimate bird rifle in denser forest. As a plinker and varmint caliber, no. Ammo is too expensive, even when you hand load. The brass is so thin it deforms too easily. It doesn't feed too well either, but I guess that's just my rifle. The max range is pretty much 120m because the bullet drops so sharply after that. I would recommend you go one way or the other, .17 HMR or .223.
>>
>>32891975
what side saddle is that?
>>
>>32891423
No, .223 is better and more available. If you really need velocity, 22-250.
>>
>>32892492
22-250 is good for 40 grain frangible bullets. Otherwise it pops shit just as much as a varminter or TNT in 223.
>>
>>32891423
im surprised no ones mentioned it, but if you can, get a .204 ruger, shoots flatter and faster than the 223
makes a right mess of little furry things like rabbits and hares, ammo is comparable to varmit 223, i handload mine for accuracy benefits, you really cant go to far wrong with it
btw iv been shooting it out of a suppressed (suppressors are not controlled in any way here in NZ) ruger m77 mk2, bloody good rifle and round.

This.

.204 is a little beast of a round and it's superior to the .223. Makes small game explode and it's stupid accurate and flat shooting. I can regularly hit ground squirrels at 300 yards.

Pic was my first group shot yesterday after putting a new stock on my Savage. Well under 1/2" at 150 yards.

>>32891423
>varmint hunt
.17 HMR my dude.

Gotta go fast.
>>
I bought a Savage 93 in .22 mag and it's quite a fun little rifle. Made in syrup land though.
>>
>>32891423
I used to work with a poorfag fudd who hunted deer with one. I tried not to talk to him much because he was annoying.
>>
>>32891423
Won't do anything 223 can do for a lot less money and easier to find ammo
