Theoretically? Yes. France needed to go on the offensive on day one and force Germany to commit more troops in the West. They also needed reinforcements coming in through Romania. The idea was to fall back towards the Southeast corner of the country to hold that line of communication open. Further, the USSR could not get involved. However, as it played out, no strategic brilliance could save Poland.

France did go on the offensive in the first week of the war. Problem was they did not have the capability to achieve decisive results and the Germans did not transfer any troops away from the Polish front.

The Czech-Soviet “defense” proposal was predicated on the Soviets rolling thru Poland, who had just spent 125 years under Russian oppression and had just fought a bloody war against the Soviets less than 20 years earlier.

As I recall, the cav vs tanks thing happened because the polish cavalry got flanked by german tanks. Up to that point, they were doing a pretty good job of shitting on german infantry.

Naturally, once the tanks arrived they got their shit pushed in.
