Did they really shoot that cow?
>>
Just saw the White Tiger.
It does have some non historical shit, but the whole concept is pretty /k/.
>White painted Tiger keeps appearing out of an unassailable swamp and flanking the russians
>Russian guns can't even pen it
>Main character gets blown up
>Find him charred in the tank still holding the gear
>Survives 90% burns
>Comes back as a tank speaker
>Literally hears what tanks say
>Prays to the tank god
>Goes on a revenge fueled trip with an experimental t34-85

I like it.
The one scene where they all fuck that whore was kind of uncomfortable though.
>>
>>32889292
That massive T34 company charge is sick, but such a zerg rush. I dont know if the soviets had 76mm WP shells though...
>>
>>32889566
That scene is bullshit, in army you fucked up by everyday work and training, and people dont like fuck one whore by all platoon

The 1960's version of War and Peace has some of the biggest battle sequences ever filmed, ever, anywhere.

It has two massive set-piece sequences with the battles of Austerlitz and Borodino, and also a long sequence dramatizing Napoleon's sack of Moscow.

The whole film (all &+ hours) was available subtitled for free on Dailymotion; not sure if it still is.

But in any case, the Russian 60's War and Peace is about as big as filmmaking ever got in terms of extras and stage-setups and so on.
>>
>>32889644
7 hours, I mean. The uncut version is over 400 minutes long.

"White Sun of the Desert". It is not really a true war movie, it is in reality a soviet western movie. But is incredibly good and still my personal favorite russian movie of all time.

I tried to watch "Only Old Men Are Going to Battle" once but stopped in the middle of the film. I never had any problem with slow movies, but there was something with this one that simply didnt catch me.

Actually I always saw it as sort of a tribute to that Playboy girls scene from Apocalypse Now.

Just turned it on, and god damn it I forgot how awesome it was. You should try it out again some time, it's really nice.

Is there any Russian war movie where the protagonists don't die in the end

War by Balabanov. Balabanov is god of Russian cinema.
>>
>>32889764
good list

i'd add Checkpoint (1999)
Prisoner of the mountains (1996)
White tiger (2012)
Fate of a man (1959)

also movies that takes place in wartime, but don't focus on the front line:
The cranes are flying (1957)
The ascent (1977)
Ballad of a soldier (1959)
The cuckoo (2002)
>>
>>32889974
The cuckoo is gorgeous, totally recommend, and Prisoner of the Mountains is great too. Also if you will be able to find it in English, there is Chistilishche.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0846774/
But desu I think it's worth watching even without the subs just for the sheer realistic imagery and gore.

9th Company is the best russian movie i've ever seen.

And Kremen (imdb link below) is literally russian counterpart of Rambo, enjoy.

It's Lewis gun, but in the episodes of the film where he fires it they used Degtyaryov machine gun masked as Lewis gun instead. Pic related.
