why does this piece of trash exist?

To kill marines.
>>32880223
because the MOD is full of nerd
>>32880223
Because you're mom wanted a child that wasn't a disappointment so bad that she got double teamed by a CH-56 and a C-123 and shot that thing out of her old, rusty cooch.

>selling point is it's faster than a helicopter
>such a piece of garbage it needs helicopters to fly in front of it to scout the LZ
what would happen if they combined a V-22 with a F-35?
>>32880290
That's how Harriers are born.
>>32880258
Flies faster than the supporting gunships.
Sounds familiar.

A self flushing toilet.

What's wrong with it?
>>32880223
Because of the Iran Hostage Crisis.

What do you think those hours of COD was for back in highschool.
>>32880734
Probably. Used a few robots which used literal off the shelf X-Box controllers.
>>32880245
>>32880734
>trash plastic sticks with huge deadzone and inconsistent responce
>>32880223
Because we all want drop ships, but we have to start somewhere. Baby steps. You think after the Wright brothers flew their first plane they started sketching blueprints for an F-22? No, technological progress takes time, but don't worry, we'll get there
>>32880245
Jesus Christ how much did that cost?
>>32881224
costs like 1/5th of the payload for the aircraft
and it can't be used while landing so its fucking useless
>>32880825
>maintenance like a helicopter
propbox lasts about 15 minutes
1.5 million dollars to change prop box
unit cost was supposed to be 20 million
unit cost in actuality 100 million
>>32880734
Probably not, but it is probably a cheap knockoff which you can plug into just about anything and get it to work.
>>32881300
I wasn't aware V-22s could only fly for fifteen minutes! Wow, they must be fucking fast to catch up with the C-130s and still do a thirteen minute photo shoot!
All helicopters suck shit for maintenance. Knowing a Blackhawk crew chief, the general maintenance rate of anything with flat spinnies is twenty-four hours per flight hour.
>>32881215
This.
V-22 is a helicopter that wants to be a plane. It's a compromise, and it comes with benefits, but also the flaws of both.
>>32880245
The nose variant is going to be better.
>>32880734
No, but it's most likely just a cheap shell with XBOX controller hardware inside. They have a very good reputation for being rugged and simple plug-and-play devices with no drivers necessary so the US military has used them in the past to control various robots. I'd be willing to believe that they got through so many they decided to make their own knock-off to save money.
>>32880422
The V-22 has now killed more marines than the First Battle of Fallujah.
I could have sworn I read a study that showed the v22 was statisctically the safest rotor craft in our inventory.
>>32884137
Pretty sure beat up flatbed trucks have killed more marines than the entire rotor wing inventory of the US but I don't see your stupid ass whining about that.
