You might want to keep looking if that's for CC. The slides are somewhat heavy and the controls are very difficult to use with lower finger strength or smaller fingers. The trigger is subjective but is fine for a CC. I recall several people opening their palms up on the slide when that thing slammed closed because the release was so stiff. Good sights though if you pick one with fiber optics.

A single stack might be more comfortable for you to carry, and you would therefore be more likely to carry it all the time.

Check out the M&P Shield, the glock 42/43 etc.

If you want to go super compact get a ruger LCP or something. They come in cool colors I think, and are very inexpensive.

Ruger lc9s is a better gun imo, if you're comparing it to the m&p shield (you didn't specify which one). The shield feels like a compact gun that got stepped on, it's completely flat like a pancake. No outward grooves to fit the hand. The LC9s is more formed for human hands, and is smaller with the same capacity.

Also you want a safety. I'm sure it's something you'll throw in a purse and forget about. Safeties make them more safe to pick up if you're going to leave it in a glove box or drawer too. Just make sure you practice with it. Train to set your thumb on top of the lever and always grip it that way.

If you're not looking at the shield there's a ton of compacts better than the m&p.

Didn't read thread, but the FNS compact is exactly what I would've recommended. I would against advise you to get the one with the safety. If you're adamant about not having one, bear in mind that your holster IS the safety. You want to get something made of kydex and always make sure to clear the area of clothing before putting it back in the holster, and never leave it lying around outside of its holster. It's less of a versatile system, but that's what you give up for not wanting to simply set your grip correctly on the draw. If the gun is loaded it lives in that holster so the trigger guard is covered.
