Just picked up a Budapest m95 in awesome condition for $140. What does /k/ think of this weapon? I also have some marks on the gun i'm curious about.
>>32870732
S mark on top of the reciever.
>>32870732
The numbers are 17 and 20.
There's also a K on the magazine and an R on the bolt groove.
>>32870742
Converted to 8x56mmR. Also looks like original manufacture date was 1917.
>>32870750
Probably inspector's proofs.
>>32870781
Yeah, i'm assuming that means it was carried as a police gun by the Nazis.
Is the surplus nazi marked ammo corosive?
>>32871598
Yes
>>32870821
>i'm assuming that means it was carried as a police gun by the Nazis.
Austria, Bulgaria, and Hungary adopted the 8x56R in 1930/31, well before the Nazis.
>>32871976
Fair point. Anyway to tell when it was converted or if it was used by the nazis?
>>32872154
Occasionally the conversion date is marked over the original build date.
>>32870732
they are nice rifles, I had one for a while then sold it to a fellow /k/ommando for what I paid for it which was $65
>>32872248
Damn, that's a really good deal. They seem to be going for around $250 on gunbroker.
>>32870732
use the marksman variant not the carbine
>>32872429
>the marksman variant
Bit difficult to come by, chief.
>>32872451
No not the sniper variant, marksman variant!
That way there's no glare off your scope when you're sniping on long range maps, DUH.
>>32872429
>>32872691
Yeah, I'm starting to notice the carbine isn't particularly good since the scout doesn't work well as an aggressive class.
>>32870732
Only worth owning in 8x57
>>32872857
Why?
>>32873111
Better caliber overall.
>>32873490
How common are m95s in 8x57?
>>32873552
That looks like Ian. Vaguely at least.
Damn, Austro-Hungarian uniforms and rifles are sexy as hell. I wish the Austrians weren't so overshadowed by Prussia in studying the war.
>>32873552
Uncommon but not rare for the rifle itself, but often M95M and M95/24 rifles have lost the special magazine insert that allows them to hold loose rounds without the en-bloc. Some guy on Gunboards is talking about making repros, so that might solve the problem.
>>32873552
Ian the time traveler. No wonder he loves historic weapons so much.
>>32873705
Are there any good books or websites with more info on these guns?
>>32873728
Branko Bogdanovich's "Serbian and Yugoslav Mauser Rifles" has a chapter on the 8x57mm M.95M conversion process, the factory that did it, and their markings.
>>32870732
Looks nice gun bro
>>32873855
Awesome, thanks man! Do you have any other book recommendations for old military bolt actions and other arms?
>>32873939
Thanks boss. I can't wait to shoot her.
>>32870732
nice m95 carbine!
why's there a line tied to the triggerguard?
>>32875999
that was probably tied to the little card with info and price written on it
Can these things be loaded sans clip, i;m thinking no but in the off chance I'm wrong
>>32872796
you just aren't doing it right then, I usually get 2:1 using scout aggressively, mostly with infantry variants
I have a couple. Ammo is not easy to find. Fun to shoot. Kicks a little bit.
>>32870732
On paper they sound like they're hot shit.
But ammo is incredibly expensive and hard to find, the action is really rough for a straight pull. And the bolt disassembly is just abhorrent.
Really handy though and incredibly light. Also really unique piece of history for a very low price since no one wants them.
I rank them below but in the same tier as carcanos for not actually being as bad as people say but still not great
>>32876243
No they use a mannlicher style clip. Same concept as an enbloc
>>32876243
You can use it kind of like a breach loader if you want but other than that you need the clips.
>>32876459
>>32876542
Honestly $20 for twenty rounds isn't as bad as I expected.
>>32876668
Yeah the price isn't as bad as you would think but finding it in store is impossible.
>>32876697
Yeah, I figured I wouldn't even find it at Cabela's. I'm going to an antique weapons show this weekend and I'm hoping I can find some nazi ammo or a bayonet to go with her. I have a friend who has one too and we're going to go half and half on some modern ammo to try and cut down on shipping.
