people in the last thread were talking about geocaching and sharing coordinates. I may be overly paranoid, but I that's a bad idea/if it's done it needs to be very carefully done. another anon linked a coordinate sharing app that might be a decent way to go, another option would be for someone to set up a site/ftp server that's password protected with a password only /k/ regulars would know, or have an invite only irc/discord channel, or encrypt them or hide them within the pictures you post (don't know if embedding files into images still works for 4chan, probably not since moot became nofun in later years)

that may seem overly paranoid, but just take a look at any urban exploration community. they almost never share locations, and if they do it's by private messages so that they're not out in the open

My problem with geocashing would be that the places I go are on private property and the more people that go there, the higher the chance that the owner gets pissed off and does something about it.

One guy in and out every 6 months or do is no big deal, random amounts of people from the internet, probably not so much.

You ever climb the firefighter training tower (pic related). Back in college (07-11) my buddies and I would climb that fucker and gave a couple beers up top every so often at night. Great view. Ill post a few pics. You can shimmy your way up the fire escape ladder on the east side, open a window and use the stairs to the top, then get back out on the fire escape to get to the ladder to get on the roof. Good times.

Not me, I lived with 3 other guys in Springfield maybe a 5 min bike ride from here. We'd ride our bikes over and lock them up in the park just south of there and climb ol' "flimzor" (that last ladder is flimsy as fuck) and would kill a couple hours on a Fri or Sat night, usually pre-game.

anyone bring binoculars with them? seems like a good idea when you're exploring hopefully abandoned places, but I never see anyone mention them

I live on the Oregon coast and I have probably more than 10 shut down lumber mills within a 50 mile radius. There are also a good handful of forest service fire watch towers and enough miles of logging road for someone who has never been there before to get lost for hours. Thinking of doing my first stalker challenge in about two weeks from now at an abandoned sulfur plant.

Planning on doing it scientist/ecologist style, searching for artifacts and documents, and testing nearby water for contamination of sulfur and industrial byproducts.

My question, to anyone with experience doing these challenges, is what things in particular should I be on the lookout for? Are there any other measurable tests that you think I should do on the environment? I can only bring one handgun, should I buy a nagant revolver that my lgs is selling before I go and take it with me for maximum slav? What sorts of things you typically pack, and what things should I avoid packing? Thanks in advance for any advice lads.

Was gonna surprise you guys with this, but I'd like opinions (and may get eaten by a panther anyway).

So, posted in last thread discussing my family's property. Farmland. No abandoned buildings, but there is rubble and abandoned equipment in some parts (burned out cotton picker, old industrial sized gasoline tanks, broken stone bridge, rubble that used to be a brick cottage, etc.)

Plan is to go out in a week or three and give this challenge a go (gotta break away from work and such). Gonna bring my qt with me. Also trying to get an SLR-104 asap. I'll camp as close to one of these structures as possible (depending on which is most promising). Document everything and share when we get back. Will stay at least 24 hours, but shooting for 48.

The catch is, the wildlife is active. Coyotes are everywhere. I'm hearing that the hogs are coming back our way. Most interesting: a panther was seen down in one of the areas I mentioned.

So, gonna make some tin can alarm systems around where we make camp. Rifles hot at all times. Sleeping in shifts. May bring nightvision scope (if allowed).

Hey guys, what is the smallest milsurp backpack that you can find? I generally travel light and I just want something to hold my canteen/food in. Otherwise I'll just stick with the web belt that I've been using.

Tried a one strap gas mask bag, but any weight causes it to dig into your shoulder after a few miles

This is not happening for a few month, but I guess I can tease it.

I have gathered a team of 11 other stalkers. Together we are taking a skinwalker/stalking trip over 130 miles long. We hope to run through several abandoned towns, buildings, and mines along our way to a fairly amazing vantage point far above sea level.

Now, the actual reason we are going on the trip is ridicuously nerdy and maybe pants on head dumb to most. After following some STALKER threads, we decided to add it as another angle to our trip kinda meshed with the original reason.

We saw LOTR, then watched a small series called A Simple Walk into Mordor where 3 guys in New Zealand walk some 130 miles in 7 days from the set of the Shire to the MT used as Mt Doom in the movies. They carried a replica one ring that they buried there.

I scaled a fence that extends to the right of the barbed wire gate, and went behind the building, there was a loading bay, but like everywhere else all the doors and windows are boarded, there was a single doorway which opened to a short hallway, on the right was a broken down door to a restroom, then i looked up and saw a Camera, luckily i was wearing a neck warmer pulled up to my nose, a cap and a bright headlamp looking right at it, hopefully they didn't get a glimpse of my face, so i 360 degreed and walked out back to the loading bay. And back over the fence, then basically went "I can't fucking get in"

Here is it on Google Maps, on the bottom left is the Factory, you can see how small it is relative to the rest of the complex, that is a hospital, or what used to be one, about 85% of the entire place is abandoned, there is a single business that is closed at night and that's it.

There is still power in the buildings being that the lights were still on, i went up a door to one of the medical wings and there was a sign warning trespassers, i didn't want to risk being caught on camera inside seeing they had already bothered to wire a camera to monitor an asbestos ridden factory.

Currently getting a gang together to start compiling some info on, and hopefully getting out and poking around in, some places in NZ. Tricky is part is places worth going where you can carry firearms. Will post periodically back in these threads, so keep an eye open.

Even a cheapo set of binoculars would add some significant utility...you don't need a super-badass set to get usefulness. It's kinda like poo-pooing a $400 RIA 1911 in a bugout bag because some people spend $2000 on a custom special snowflake model or something.
