There is just something unbelievably fun about a MANPAD missile that goes from nought to over Mach 4 within half a second of leaving the launcher and can be used as an anti-light vehicle weapon at the same time. And has three fucking warheads per missile.
"Best" is subjective, given there's some targets it completely dominates the competition at engaging, and others that some others are better at hitting, and differing scenarios across both ideas.
It is just a sexy sexy missile though.
Perseus is still 15 years away but i'm already excited.
MBDA make the coolest shit.
I like the Russian style of huge AShM.
Not as practical as they used to before anti-missile systems became actually effective but they remain impressive.
>Designed to shoot down incoming ICBMs once they were below a 40 mile altitude - within seconds of hitting their target
>Max speed of 7,610mph (Mach 10)
>Accelerated to 100g and mach 10 within 5 seconds
>Would break the sound barrier before even leaving its silo
>So fast that white-hot plasma would form around it, heating its skin to 3,400°C

the SEAD part is pretty cool but for anything else it seems like using the drone is wasteful compared to a SPIKE NLOS who will do the same job for (probably) cheaper
iris-T IR A2A missile
>>32860881
The fact you can recover it after launch means you can launch it without knowing if there is a target worth hitting, something you cant do with SPIKE.
>>32860968
i know
wouldnt using a drone to scout and then a SPIKE make more sense than using a suicide drone? its ofc convenient to just ram your drone into them as weapon but its probs also more expensive

ALright, I have to ask, what is all that water splashing long after the torpedo exploded? Is it debris or is the water forming underwater cavities that then move up and splash after a while?

I've only heard if fit-tests being done om the A and C, so its doubtfull. Maybe some modifications can make it happen, but thats waay in the future. Its set to be carried externaly on all varients as well though.

How does the Taurus compare to Storm Shadow?
>>32867486
That's not a meteor.
>>32861815
Thx for educating me anon
>>32867605
Taurus is generally considered to have a longer range because it has a turbofan rather than turbojet.
Though French/UK versions of SCALP/Storm Shadow have an operational range higher than advertised, it's still probably less than the 500+km Taurus is supposed to be capable of.
Storm Shadow has an advantage of being stealthier and already integrated on Rafale and Typhoon (though the UK hasn't started transitioning them to Typhoon yet, the certification is done).
It's also been eyed for F-35 integration for the UK and Italy, where it's better L/O characteristics help.
Taurus is still lagging way behind on getting integrated with Typhoon or anything next-gen.
I don't think they've done many more tests on Typhoon since 2014 where they just carried them in flight.
Works on F-15K though, so there is kind of potential for it with advanced F-15s and Gripen.

Possibly stupid question: But is the missile detonating inside the target ship? It almost looks like it's punching straight through. Now, making holes in a ship is nice, but where's the Earth-shattering Kaboom inside the ship?
>>32873921
in those 2 webs i would assume its just inert warhead, target most likely will be shot many many times for training
>>32861165
The two guys on the right look like they're facepalming the dumbass ideas of a nuclear AAM and standing under it.
Now, I know it's not quite a missile, but would it be legal to own an M-29 Spigot Gun if the launch mechanism was disabled, and you didn't have warheads?
