building a Recoilless gun.
Im bored and I have money, a welder, a plasma cutter 35 acres of land and time.
I want a 3 inch(76mm) smoothbore gun that fires fin stabilized shells atleast at 600fps
Any ideas? suggestions?
Also is this considered a destructive device?

Go to DTIC and read the Recoilless Rifle Engineering Design Manual.
It is a title II destructive device.

>600fps
Uh a black powder canon would suffice. In which case follow this fun little read:
http://www.buckstix.com/howitzer.htm
Now back on point, a recoiless rifle would be considered a DD at best, possibly an AOW.
My idea would be stick to the BP canon and have fun. Unless you can attain a complete set of prints with all applicable parts lists, this is something no novice should attempt.
t.defense contractor that manufactures weapons, fuck off, I'm on my lunch break.

Found a work around
> Muzzle-loading guns are not considered firearms in the US and do not fall under the regulations of the NFA. However, their projectiles may still be subject to NFA regulation. For instance, a person may manufacture, possess and fire a black powder, muzzle-loading cannon of any bore diameter, but may not fire explosive shells from that cannon, as the explosive shell is itself defined as a destructive device.
>The term destructive device shall not include any device which is neither designed nor redesigned for use as a weapon; any device, although originally designed for use as a weapon, which is redesigned for use as a signaling, pyrotechnic, line throwing, safety or similar device; surplus ordnance sold,
Either make it muzzleloading or make it a "Line thrower" but it says if its not "designed" to be a weapon, I'm designing a device for my own pleasure and fun so... No weapons here BATF officer.

Weld 2 shotgun barrels together. The bore size accepts estes rocket motors.
Scale up from there.

>falling for the recoilless gun meme

Rip in peace doggo

wouldn't it be easier to build a mortar out of a fence post driver? all you gotta do is drill a hole stick a fuse and muzzle load your projectile and propellant. same concept could apply if you want to fire vertically
also what makes potato guns not a destructive weapon? not from the states so unsure of the law.

the ATF made an exception for potato guns as long as they're not being used as weapon. They probably thought it would be silly to arrest a bunch of kids for them, especially when felony could ruin someone later
