Hey fellas, I'm really interested in getting into sport shooting and eventually hunting as a hobby. I know a shit-ton about gun safety and the whole scene despite never actually acquiring a PAL. I'm sure I'll ace the written and practical tests with no sweat.
My criminal record is clean but I do know they ask if you have had any sort of psychological "treatment" within the last [x] amount of years and if so make you write a letter of explanation.
Shitter is I've been on and off some prescription psych meds for a couple years. (completely off and out of "treatment" for some time now) Never been considered a suicide risk or anything like that, just had some pretty unremarkable personal struggles.
Anyway, what is the likelihood my mundane medical history will have a negative impact in regards to my PAL application?
Wat do on the application?
>>
>>32854802
Could you tell me about that grip? I'd like that myself because I don't 'get' normal long-gun stocks.
>>
>>32855913
>Wat do on the application?
Don't lie.

Call up the number they give you if you have questions and ask what you need from a doctor. It'll probably be something like "Anon has been taking ____ for _____, he would not be a danger to himself or others if he received a PAL" or whatever they need.
I believe it's a 5 year window for them needing a doctor to write something up for you.
>>
>>32855913
I scribbled violently in a moving car that I'd been depressed but I wasn't anymore and sent it in and got it like a day or two after the minimum waiting period. Downplay or barely mention it and they won't give a fuck. They put no work into verifying the shit, or even checking more than one (or sometimes any) of the references. I called up to nag them like CGN said a short bit after the thing said the papers got there and just fucking handed the phone off to my mother to do the interview.

They don't care enough to bother checking the shit, but when they do, they don't care enough to bother to get the information the need to process the application. Huge delays like that seem to be rare. You've got nothing to worry about probably.
>>
>>32855969
I suggest not doing any of that if you they don't ask for it. Just let it slide and it'll be fine. Make sure to at least half-assedly explain it. No need to dig something up for them that they might not even ask for and have it come to a bad end for you. Oh yeah, don't lie.
>>
>>32855913
Are you applying for regular PAL or restricted?

Here's why I'm asking: regular PAL they will only check your criminal background and probably won't even contact your references; exception: spouse or ex-spouse will be contacted every time. On the off chance that they do check a reference, will the reference mention you've been on meds? Basically what I'm getting at is that putting down "no" on the form would be lieing and therefore a crime, but chances are you will never get caught.

Do as your conscience allows. But know that answering "yes" may make future renewals a hassle.

>>32856062
>regular PAL or restricted?
regular PAL for starters, I don't really see the need to go for the restricted right off the bat.
>spouse or ex-spouse will be contacted every time
Never been married, but my immediate family will vouch for me no problemo.
For the sole sake of being able to legally obtain firearms for sporting/recreational use, which I know I'm perfectly capable of doing safely, I'm certainly tempted to lie. But on the off chance they catch me I would be utterly fucked. So yeah.

Thanks for the solid answers, buds. With any luck I'll be back relatively soon with a PAL and a first purchase.
>>
>>32856010
>I suggest not doing any of that if you they don't ask for it.
Don't forget that on the form they say that you're filling out an official form and falsifying information is punishable by the law. I wouldn't chance that shit.
>>
>>32856379
What I described ain't falsifying. You can tell the truth without spilling all your fucking spaghetti out onto the paper about sometimes having vivid dreams about being bubbles and chased by dogs through a trailer park you've never been to or something.

Unless I'm mistaken it specifically asks if you're on any medication.
If you say no, that's falsifying.

How do y'all feel about airsoft community?

I know the Autism that surrounds it, but I have been watching a lot of those airsoft operations videos with like 150+ people partaking and it looks pretty fun.

Any of you have experience with this shit?

You definitely pick up some handling techniques by playing indoors.

Especially how to maneuver around corners, hop over/through windows and the like.

Things you can't train/learn at a range.
>>

Airsoft is a pretty fun activity when you play with a group of like-minded individuals. Its a very easy sport to make friends in. My social circles have expanded exponentially since I started playing (2010). The MilSim games are where its at, and its *usually* where the best players gravitate too.

The problem with airsoft is when people start taking it WAY too seriously and forget that its a fucking game. Dont be one of those people.
>>
>>32857573
Also like this anon mentioned, it can be a great training aid, especially in gun manipulation and movement.

Just fucking hate the cuck laws for it

Tried ordering a DBOYS Ak-74 with triangle folding stockade few yrs ago, with a couple of mags and a quick charger for the battery, and it got seized at customs and only received my mags and charger and battery, I was sooooo pissed off. I was furious. Especially since it was supposed to be my 1st real professional airsoft gun other than my crappy Canadian Tire Pulse Ak-74u with the clear plastic that I spray painted black and brown

His plan is to allow people to opt out of the government funded healthcare and purchase private healthcare instead. That's it. It could potentially lead to a ton of people opting out and cost the system a bunch of money, but that's fairly unlikely, and most people with enough money to buy private health insurance are more likely to just double up.

I pulled this from his site.

Bernier’s plan has three key components:

Replace the Canada Health Transfer by tax points of equivalent value given to the provinces.
End the current confusion over who does what. Provinces should take their responsibility for health care funding and management and be fully accountable for the results, while Ottawa should respect the Constitution and stop meddling.
Create the conditions to encourage provinces to innovate and adopt reforms in line with what is normal in the mixed universal systems of all other developed countries apart from the U.S., such as allowing for private insurance and private service delivery.

So a quick skim of it looks like he's saying he wants provinces to be able to make their own decisions on shit and expand on private health care?

Ask them what the hell they have a problem with so you can look specifically at that.
>>
>>32861322
How do we opt out if we're paying for the healthcare through our taxes? Will we be able to opt out paying for those taxes?

"Ending federal transfers would basically destroy the healthcare system of the Atlantic provinces, and other places where retirees go. You cant have people moving to Calgary, working for 10 years bringing in cash and moving back to the Atlantic provinces and retiring to get sick.

My personal opinion is that his plan is to make It broken so he can justify getting rid of it. Liberatians and free, or really any subsidized version of healthcare don't mix."
Seems autistic but I'm not too knowledgeable about the situation.

We might see a couple prohibs over this, but I don't see major changes coming. Quebec had implemented Loi 9 a while back, so their restricted rules are stricter than the rest of Canada. It makes them look like chucklefucks for their big new special gun law that was supposed to stop this to not work.

My prediction is we may see a bigger push on repeal of C-42, maybe a few extra prohibs, but then they'll focus on other shit and try to sweep the embarrassing stuff under the rug. Also, the feds have to be careful how hard they push any angle so as not to piss off the Quebecois any more, while not losing the Muslim support. Difficult balancing act. A bit like the Democrats down in the States and the Crown Heights riots.
>>
>>32863251
>My prediction is we may see a bigger push on repeal of C-42
I've seen them pushing for that for a while now, but they should actually take the time to read what C-42 actually does.

>>
>>32863267
On the plus side, if a bit of symbolism shuts them up, I'd be okay with that- versus the alternative.

Maybe the biggest danger is the RCMP sensing that this is a big chance for them. They actually know things about guns, and could hurt us bad if they were allowed.

There won't be prohibs, that'd be autistic for the Liberals to pull in their position. Don't know if you've heard, but people are right pissed about Trudeau's latest false promise, and they can't have angry conservatives to fight come 2019.

It's so bad that people are focusing more on his broken campaign promise more than a bunch of people that got shot. That indicates some serious trouble for their party right now.

Hey guys, is anyone into shotshell reloading? I'm trying to figure out if it's cost-effective when compared to buying bulk target loads for $60-$100 / 250. Also how hard is it to reload for slugs and buckshot? I tend to pay around $1 / round for those and they seem like they would be a lot more viable for reloading.

I'm pretty new to reloading to be honest, but my gf said she'd buy me something at cabelas worth $80 or less and the Lee Load all caught my eye.

uwot? Pic related makes 7-1/2 birdshot.

Mind you, there appear to be mixed results with shot makers; people complain that the shot is inconsistent. A tower is really the only way to get perfectly spherical shot.

>sourcing consistent lead
This. When I finally get into muzzleloading, I'm going to look into ordering a pallet or two of lead from China. Keep some for myself, sell the rest to local gun stores or whatever, because large amounts of decent quality lead are really hard to find these days.

>>
>>32872387
Because small arms meant a little more back then (though not by much). Now warfare doctrine has evolved to put a great deal more emphasis on air power and support. Look at the casualty numbers in every war in the past 70 years. The overwhelming number of casualties has been caused by explosives, be it bombs or artillery. Small arms make up a tiny portion.

>>32872474
My point is that small arms make little difference in modern warfare. If our infantrymen were using Garands instead of C7s in Afghanistan, there would be literally no difference in outcome.

That's why changing the service rifle now is a waste of money. The C7 is good enough, a different rifle would not make enough of a difference to be worth the cost.

>the government makes good decisions when it spends money on things
wew lad

I'm not saying the C7 isn't better than a Garand. I'm saying in retrospect, it would have made fuck all of a difference. Knowing what we know now, the question of whether something should be purchased to replace the C7 can be answered. And the answer is no.
>>
Odd question, is there a good semi-automatic handgun that holds less than 10 rounds, or would revolvers be the way to go? Asking because the mag restriction triggers my autism and I'd have unpinned the mag by the week's end.

1911 would be my first answer to that, Browning Hi-Powers in .40 also fit the bill perfectly. If you wanna go more gommie, you really can't go wrong with a Tokarev in 9mm or 7.62x25. Also, the Ruger American in .45 holds exactly 10 in it's original configuration.
>>
>>32875183
If you buy a brand new Glock within Canada, they come with 10-round magazines. Not pinned magazines, but actual magazines that were built to hold exactly 10 rounds, no more no less. If you buy OEM Glock-brand magazines within Canada, they will be made exactly the same.

My PPQ came with these stupid fucking things. It's not pinned, it is literally a shortened mag with the floorplate being an extended piece of plastic. Does that count?

I imagine if someone wanted to, they could 3-D print the floor plate to allow more rounds to be loaded in.
>>
>>32875314
Those shortened mags trigger me especially, since you can't do anything about them. Pins are easily removable, but these purpose-built things are not able to be modified. It's infuriating having cucked mags.

10-round OEM magazines also exist in the US & Austria. It wasn't born from a result of Canadian cuck-law.

Sure the final outcomes of wars aren't decided by whether they've got 8 rounds on tap or 30, but it can definitely affect the outcome of battles, which can affect the amount of people who die, which can affect public opinion on the war, etc. etc.

Amerifag here, the question has probably been discussed to death but if Alexander Arms made 10-rounders for a Beowulf AR Pistol, would that fly for import?
>>
>>32876536
Sadly no, the Arsie MPs have decided any new markings beyond what they've already approved are "dual use" magazines, despite that term never appearing in our laws, so they're prohibited devices.
>>
>>32873310
Yeah my cat has a box under a coffee table, it's hours of fun.
>>
>>32876613

I'm gonna keep trying, if the Don could win maybe we can bring a little magic to those still under the Leaf Occupation Government.

Currently Alexander Arms doesn't make a .50BEO AR Pistol, so the 10-round mags are meant for rifles. Maybe that's why they're banned, since it's a 10-round centerfire RIFLE mag.

As for what you said about the arsies and markings, I think that might be sourced from this report that was floating around, unless you have the specific case. Wouldn't put it past the leaf occupation government to do something like that, though.

http://calibremag.ca/rcmp-prohibit-50-beowulf-magazines/

Anyways, let's say I started making .50 Beo AR-Pistols, designed a mag from scratch to be paired to that .50 Beo AR-Pistol (instead of re-marked beowulf dual-use mags) and sent the mags up North. Read SB 72, so I wonder if it'd still fly- as long as the LOG didn't just pull another quick one and stomped on it without regard for their own laws.

IT'S 2017 WE'RE GONNA MAKE IT WORK LADS
>>
>>32876862
Someone tried to bring in a VZ58 "pistol" (stockless, with a super short barrel) and an accompanying "pistol" magazine. The RCMP declared it was just a stockless rifle, and therefore there aren't any VZ58 pistol mags, regardless of markings. Quite frankly, I admire and appreciate the enthusiasm, but it won't work while the horse cops still have a say. What needs to happen is Mad Maxime Bernier betting in charge of this country. He'd actually do a good job of reforming our laws for the better.
>>
>>32876942

just one thing before I put it to rest and wait for Mad Maxime Bernier- wouldn't there be a difference between a person with a modified Vz58, versus a corporation with design documents and an assembly line? Seems like there would be a legal distinction there.

But as you said, horse cops. I'll put it to rest now, but best of luck on Mad Maxime's victory, leafguys

We can do that, as many cases have already demonstrated. The law is actually fairly clear there.

Meanwhile in Cali, you've got bullet buttons (or not, haven't been paying attention), garbage abomination "featureless" builds, laws against buying in other states, on top of all the other crap like SBR stamps.

Ah, nice. Since I don't have shady underworld connections, I'm going to have to get my guns in the US and transport them myself. It's not that hard, border guards can't find smuggled firearms for shit. Not that I have any experience in this, of course. Or that I would ever break the law.

On that note, I'm surprised nobody is selling undrilled suppressor baffles (and boosters) sized for common hardware store pipe IDs. I fail to see how that could be prosecuted, since 80% lowers are allowed and it's basically the same concept. Might explore this idea when I eventually get a lathe.
