Okay so my initial question is....Is there a point of getting plates or Kevlar B.A.? I have the urge to buy some but even I can't justify it.
Also I like pet projects so out of curiosity,
>What is the best homemade armor one can make?
>Can anyone link to instructions or pictures of homemade/more economic options?

As a matter of fact I saw this just yesterday.
DIY project
$30
pistol plates
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7jiIQOgwtI
Might make some myself.
TLDR;
DIY plates made from fibreglass fabric sandwiched with epoxy
the justification is if you're arround guns other people with guns frequently, because other people are dumb and have accidents (or negligence, as autistic people call it). So if you work at a range or something, I would buy them. also if you're a terrorist. if you're neither of those things, forget it.

Terrorists don't need body armor. If anyone sees a terrorist at all he's already failed at his job.

soft plates are like $60. I don't see the point. you end up spending more than that in labor.
>>32852796
Do you have link to soft plates for $60?
>>32852718
Thanks anon! I'll look into the process and see if I want to take the project on. I'd only make something I would actually wear when out shooting in da desert.
Just get a plate carrier with some IIIA soft plates and some III+ hard plates and youre set for casual wear and rifle stopping
It's cheaper than a fucking handgun and a lot easier to get if you just order on AR500
>>32852796
Yea thats nice if you live in a free country.
In Australian Green Socialist Commonwealth, self defense is a crime and armor is illegal.

AR(ecall)500?
>Id only make something I would actually wear
Then dont make 'homemade' shit, unless you are really going to do your research. Theres a saying, if you have a $5 brain, get a $5 helmet. Could you make some ghetto homemade armor? Probably, but do you trust yourself enough? Are you a real craftsman? Im totally on board with doing your own stuff, but I think this is not one of those things. These companies have had countless years of experience and millions of dollars worth of research and dev. involved. Youll have maybe a handful of hours and maybe a few hundred.
You can get cheap plates out there, as some anons mentioned above. You basically get what you pay for in weight. You can get
80$ plates that protect against rifles that weigh a fuck ton, or you can 900$ plates that protect against rifles that weigh a few pounds.

I live in az, not in Phoenix but a close drive. I saw that they are based there. Do you think I'd get a better deal at their warehouse/shop? For casual wear knowing I'll probably never get shot at EVER anything above $250 seems like a waste. Unlike a gun I can't have fun with armor.
What do people think of the bluestone Lvl 3?
>>32852906
Hasnt happend in years and the III+ has been proven by independent tests multiple times
>>32852932
Compact carrier for around $100, front and back 10x12 soft armor plates for like $75 each
>>32853109
whose independent tests?
HP white labs or a guy on youtube shooting off the back porch?
>>32853137
Both, the outdoor youtubers are the realest guys though even if their methods sometimes have flaws
>>32853109
also by years you mean literally 1 year. the recall was just last spring
>>32853147
post hp white labs test report
>their methods sometimes have flaws
pretty much all the time.
anyways i don't think people who want steel regardless of recalls are thinking straight. The problems originate mostly in bad quality steel from suppliers. Since you don't know what their testing is like, you may be the chump that gets plates with bad heat treat and you'll never know until you get shot.
This

If you can get it for reasonable money, just buy it and forget about it.
>>32852718
Amazing video, but it seems more suited to a iiia helmet than a substitute rifle plate.
>>32853914
Yes it's very much a last resort substitute.
I only suggested it cos i thought it would be cheaper but if pistol plates are less than $100 in US i would definitely buy them.
Its really the only option for me cos Australia is a socialist state.
