My dad never taught me how to hunt or shoot, just fish. He is a fisherman, but he's also the typical baby boomer. Liberal in his heart, bigoted and conservative in his head. We had 76 guns when I was growing up. My stepdad was a prepper.

That describes my dad, too, plus he's an obsessive control freak and an abusive alcoholic asshole. He knows nothing of guns, thinks "assault weapons" and full-size and/or affordable handguns should be banned, and doesn't even know where the key to his gunsafe is (my mom has it). Mom used to be anti back in the day. Father was uninterested until Obama, then he panic bought hard and he and I both got into it. Truly father/son bonding over mutual distrust of the government is one of the best kinds.

The divorce is almost over, so I don't know if I'll go back to active, or accept one of the government jobs I've been offered and we can all work on our project, which is buying a nice farm that just came up on a lot of land with one main house and a smaller bunkhouse. The idea is that we all go in, then use the land for profit and recreation. Since they don't have anything anymore, I'd love to help build a legacy for my little sister and mother, as well as returning my grandfather to his natural habitat (he raised me on a cattle farm).

And the hilarious part is she used to be a crack shot when she was a kid, but now she's the quintessential liberal soccer mom- 5 kids, shitty tattoos, landwhale, drives a minivan (and has done so since back when there were only 2 kids), muh genders and muh body positivity. At least she's retained enough sense to be against the "kill all men" bullshit and doesn't buy into muh patriarchy, at least not any more than what's mostly true. Still, she's beyond saving.
