I watched the Top Gun blu-ray with my fiancee last night, she'd never seen it before.
I spent most of the movie feeling legitimately sad, watching the glory days of US naval aviation in the jet age play out on screen, knowing that not even a decade later they'd have their budget gutted, and now you'll never again see an American F-14 fly.
The thought of the USN getting the drippings from the DOD budget and our boys having to face off against the new Chinese navy with nothing but F-18 variants and slow, unmaneuverable F-35C's with peeling RAM that they didn't want in the first place but got stuffed down their throats because the Lockheed jew required more shekels, with the fleet-defense/air dominance role, now needed more than ever, still unfilled nearly a quarter century after the NATF was cancelled makes me physically angry.
What are some other /k/-tier movies to raise my spirits when I think of US Naval aviators in rhinos getting their shit pushed in by chink flankers.

The F-35 is great at what it is, but the -C is basically a (much) better F/A-18 when the USN already has the Rhino in spades.
A fleet defense aircraft it sure ain't, and that's the most glaring need in the US Navy's carrier air wing right now. Whoever killed the NATF and the Super Tomcat 21 should be hanged for treason.

True, everytime I see a Tomcat I pop the biggest freedom boner. There's this video of an F-14 at an airshow and the pilot does aileron rolls while sweeping the wings out/in and a split s. I almost cried. I'll dump some F-14s for you brother.

I have the airshow vid, but its on fb, so the detection system thinks its spam. The Tomcat was the best jet the Navy every had. Also, a Tomcat fully loaded with missiles is still something that no current fighter jet can match.
