I'm still torn on the helmet thing, I can either buy an opscore, but it will be in black, which isnt too bad with a cover, maybe switch out the rails and shroud, and use some EC paint. Or, I can hold on and wait, and hopefully NorseGear will get their new batch of opscore helmets, hopefully a maritime. Pic related, both look good.

I've also looked into getting a permit to possibly import the Delta X, since a lot of people recommended that, as well as our good lord Gear Hitler using it. Seems like a dreaded prosess tho.

Depends on what your going to use it for and what you need to do to finish your AR. If your AR isnt functioning yet, then do that. If your using your dangler for an IFAK and your gun is working, then do that. If your using it for candy bars, and your AR is functioning, get a radio.

I bought another ALICE rig today and I was wondering if you guys know of a website that goes through all the little markings on the metal bits. My old one had some buckles marked "CI" which means Colt, right? But there are also weird stamps and other letters like B and P on some. I was also wondering about the belt buckle, it says "ITW Nexus" which I know if the maker, but there's a circle with the letters D, C, N, and S on the back with an arrow pointing to one of the letter. What does that mean?

>>32818285
The stitching, velcro, elastic, and plastic buckles are all low quality. The quality control is also quite spotty. For using to photo-op on /k/ or wear once a year, you might not notice the difference, but for any kind of extended use it quite literally falls apart.

I saw an interpreter in Afghanistan have plate literally fall out of his Condor vest when the velcro failed, and saw plenty of condor buckles on various things crack easily.

Condor small pouches may survive, but anything significantly load bearing and requiring a decent fit like a plate carrier should be of a better build.

OOH This is my chance to contribute something useful. If CAG ever goes to an event, they do not actually send their own people. Whatever publicity or cross training event in which there is a slight media presence, they use prospective recruits. This is why the infamous helicopter picture is the only real reference anybody has on modern day CAG equipment, because any other 'CAG' picture from 2010 forward is not actually CAG. So yes, there was one guy in a MOPC, but he wasn't actually a member of CAG. I typed way too many CAGs.

True, but I look at it from a utilitarian point of view too. If I was going into harm's way or working with the helmet and nods for extended periods I'd have no problem dishing out $1000+ for some really slick stuff. In my use it's going to be doing some night hunting and night shooting with buddies, nothing that will likely have the helmet on my head for more than a few hours at a time. A plain jane bump helmet with some counterweight at the rear should serve me pretty well as far as I can ascertain.

I can pick up Gen 2 Nortos mounts + Jarm for around $60 so thats what im using. I have used a little bit of electrical tape (as suggested by some iraq vets) to get wobble out of it. Im using a Wlicox L4 shroud with lanyard for a 3 hole mount and really like it.

I try to avoid TNVC if at all possible.

Additionally I really like the lanyard so my shit doesnt tumble off my face if something goes wrong. Either DIY it with bungees or use a shroud with one.

Their website does not display stock status at all and their shipping times are so potato that you dont find out until you've already wasted a week. If you do have to order from them try to call before to check status/place order on the phone. I like mod armory, ebay and a couple other online retailers better

Yeah im sure A2, No TQ? Garbage. The reality is all 'pre' filled IFAKs, are like price hiked big time. Also that gauze is weak as fuck, just go buy NAR compressed guaze. Something like a few yards of it for like 2 bucks a pack.

25 Dollars worth of that will get you a lot farther than that pack. Most people will tell you to keep bandaids completly out of an IFAK, personally I keep a few in there. but the booboo stuff is most noticablly taking up the least amount of room in my kit. If its restricting you from carrying for important stuff then its doing more harm then good.

One more question, if a backpack says 600d x 300d does that mean that some parts have 600d and others 300d or does that mean the fabric is a blend of both?
For instance 800d versus 600d x 300d

Before anyone shits on him too bad if he is, I was relocated for a job for two years and had a good house on a good block, but the city/suburb I was in was weird. It was like nice/ghetto/nice/ghetto/nice/ghetto the entire way across it, so there was no great place to be. Our neighborhood watch guys actually saved some lives through regular patrols and observation (and confrontation a handful of times) when the city was too bumfucked to bother sending police through regularly.

Guys weren't tryhards either, just grown men tired of seeing their neighbors getting robbed or fucked with.

>Is ebay g2g, and will that be the best price?
Depends on the seller.
You can also buy locally at milsurp places, if you live near a base you can probably get them the cheapest.
>>
>>32821337
Start by buying a plate carrier, front, back, and side plates. Get a lvl III helmet, then start buying lots of mountaineering cloths. As for what to get exactly, just pick the most expensive things you can find.

Now, at some point you will get annoyed with all the weight and accessories. This is when you go to just wearing a stiff pistol belt with a couple of mag holders on it. Maybe you will spend a bit much on an eberlestock pack or something for longer trips inawoods. This is your "lightweight" or "minimalist" phase.

You will eventually realize that the tactical tends have left you behind. Have you seen the new PCs? Better get one, add maybe some new plates for it. Hey cool! This IR strobe weighs about two ounces and costs $400! It must be awesome, but you are going to need a helmet to mount it...

And on, and on.

Little bullshit ones don't matter for gloves and shit.

If you want climbing grade ones make sure they are actually rated for weight and that they have a thumb twist lock-in mechanism. Used these for rappelling, climbing, remote pulling IEDs out of the dirt, and once hooked up to pull out a truck.

Shitty stitching, shitty elastic, shitty Velcro, shitty buckles, no protection from wear on corners and stuff like that.

I used condor vests on TCCC casualties and it fell apart pretty quick. Also saw an interpreter with a condor vest have his plates fall out when the Velcro failed.

Condor pouches are kinda meh since they aren't load bearing, but I'd not use their vests or bags.

If you want a cheap vest go for a Blackhawk slick or something by Beez.

You have summed it up pretty well. Their products tend to be both inefficiently designed and produced to somewhat iffy standards. I have a map/admin pouch from them which is ok, I have a mag shingle like >>32820871 in coyote which is garbage for magazines but good as an internal organizer in a duffle I use. I would avoid their load bearing gear, but some of their pouches are alright. They make a softshell that some guys swear by, so maybe their clothing is better.

Things I am aware of are that the colours are all wrong for the weather (yes, I own overwhites too as well though), and the helmet is non-ballistic (and there's no active earpro/comms) - thought that one is on my to-do list, to get a ballistic helmet as soon as I can save up for one. But what else can I fix?
>>
>>32824512
IFAK should be on your weak side but accessible by your dominant hand.
You will never, ever need two TQs. You aren't an operator.
Double eye pro? You're just playing dress up.
>>
>>32824572
The IFAK position was actually stolen from various US operators who run the LBT 9022B on the small of their back. I've heard a lot of contest for that, and I admit accessing it with the weak hand might be a bit difficult, but it's pretty easy to find with the dominant one.

For the two tourniquets - I admit I'm no operator. But the kit is built for proper warfare - e.g. Ivan crossing the border and deciding to re-annex the frozen wasteland I call my home country, and in that case, I'd rather have two tourniquets around and not need them, than have one and needing two.

As a side note - I'm actually carrying three tourniquets - two on the PC and one on the belt kit. PC ones are meant to be quickly accessible, while belt one is there just so if I don't happen to have the PC with me whilst getting shot.

t. studying to become a paramedic and was trained as a combat medic in conscription

And yeah, the double eye pro is mostly for dressup purposes, I mean I could explain it as running lighter eyepro normally and sealed goggles in case of a snowstorm. But honestly, while the explanation works, I admit it's not really the reason - it's just that I like the looks of goggles on forehead.

Funnily enough there was a snowstorm earlier today, managed spin out on a smaller countryside road while going to take those pictures.
>>
>>32824572
I would rather you didn't tell anyone not to carry more TQs. One is often not enough, sometimes they break, and life has a way of causing some bleeding.

>>32824512
All that said, having CATs exposed like that tends to get them all dirtied up which significantly impacts how well they work. Velcro is like that. You can put two in a mag pouch on your cummerbund and be way better of.
>>
>>32824695
One other thing. Turn your grimloks around.
>>
>>32824737
Aware, though I'm honestly not that worried about them being dirtied up - I'm more worried of their shelf life. For example, the four tourniquets I have (three on gear, one on my EDC pack) are all way beyond their shelf life without wrapping. Cold tends to cause plastic go brittle, and most people I've spoken to say that six months is the longest time exposed tourniquets can be trusted upon. These ones are well beyond that; I mean in case of an actual need for kit, a situation warranting it, I would just replace them from either my own stocks, or the armed forces', but still.

>>32824756
Nah. The grimlocks are that way around for a reason: I use them for mounting the belt on. At times I run the waist bag in normal life as well, as a hip bag, in which case I either hook it to the pants' belt loops using grimlocks, or if there's a heavier load in the bag, using the grimlocks to mount the bag's own belt on.
>>
>>32824572
>Double eye pro? You're just playing dress up.
I beg to differ.
My glasses are fine for shooting and general use, but when I'm in the back of a truck, or when there's heavy wind with sand (AZ), I'm glad I have something bigger available.

I don't know how to handle snow.
>>
>>32824816
Same guy in both the posts you replied to. The reason I advise you to turn your grimloks so that the button is closer to your body is that wearing them the other way puts a lot of stress on the little post that holds them together. I have had grimloks dump my stuff a couple of times. I relegated mine to cable and hose routing. Their only real merit is that they break away under sufficient shock. Granted, that may be your intent. I prefer S biners for mounting stuff I intend to keep.

My gripes notwithstanding, I like your rig. It seems functional and well thought-out. Do you find that the cold changes how the shock cord on the TACOs behaves?

Speaking of operational operators operating operationally with chemlites, I have never understood internet operator explanations of using chemlites to mark rooms cleared of enemies.

If you are clearing a building and do not have somebody overwatching a doorway or room, then dropping a chemlite to signify that the room is clear means nothing, since it's unattended. The chemlite does not provide security that a previously empty room will not become occupied by an enemy. This is assuming that the building is even large even to warrant dropping chemlites. Not to say that some unit somewhere doesn't do it, but I personally have never seen this actually done and it smacks of internet anons copying something that they heard from a guy who heard from a guy without having all the context.

I HAVE seen chemlites used to mark that a room is totally clear of boobytraps, but that is a far more methodical process done after the building is clear of enemies, and you have more leeway in leaving the room temporarily unattended. Similarly, I have seen chemlites used to mark left and right boundries on roads cleared of IEDs, or lanes in minefields that are clear. In addition, I have seen them used to mark possible IEDs or threats, but those are usually IR sticks.

About 99% of visible chemlite usage I've seen has been to mark tents and tent cords and stuff so people don't trip over stuff.

Just throwing out a stream of consciousness because on how sagely people repeat what chemlites are used for without really thinking it through critically.

>>
>>32825356
how much? am interested
>>
>>32825877
But the problem is that's exactly what it's used for. Literally just signifying that the room has been cleared. No shit the chemlight's not going to keep it clear. I'm not going to pretend to know how sof clear buildings but there are usually ways to clear it such that once you've cleared a room/hallway/stairwell it stays cleared

You're overthinking this a bit.
>>
>>32825877
Usually when conducting a raid, youll have an outer and inner cordon, so youll have security watching the outside, and depending how big the building is, youll probably leave some people in place throughout the building to guide in other personnel. So, if you have the personnel, and depending on a million other factors, youll end up probably leaving some personnel in either those rooms, or throughout.

IE. If the building is multiple stories, and your conducting a raid with a platoon sized element, you wont go through the entire thing with a platoon. Some will be designated for the inner and outer cordon (If you mark a room clear, and there are windows, people wont be crawling in).
>>
>>32825950
If the doorway is being overwatched, there is no need to drop a chemlite. If the door is not being overwatched, dropping a chemlite is meaningless and does not reliably mean the room is clear.

I am pointing out that internet anons may be underthinking it a bit, and without knowing the full context of how chemlites are used, they are taking best guesses in an attempt to copy operators.

I posted many things which I know chemlites ARE used for, and quite commonly having them mark a room fully clear of boobytraps is something I can attest to, and that is a quite different usage than many anons picture with using them to mark "cleared rooms".

If you mark a doorway clear without somebody watching the hallway, it is unreliable. If somebody is watching the hallway, no point in the light.
>>
>>32825978 >>32826011

Again I refer you to >>32825951

If Im conducting a raid, and there is a window in a room, and I leave one guy in there, hes looking out that window, hes not standing at the door telling people its clear. So when reinforces come in, or whomever, they can tell "oh hey this is clear".

The reality is sometimes your conducting a raid, and you have a fire team below you setting up a ccp or already getting to work in some other situation. Its beneficial to have the ability to mark.

I wont sit here and argue with you on if youve seen it or not, but for anons that want to know, marking rooms 'clear' with chem lights is a real thing. I also wont get into room clearing, and how things are cleared and kept reliable, there are methods to the madness, and i cant be fucked to type out how to conduct a raid on here.

Now, do you need to mark that shit? Not always, sometimes ive found it really useful, other times I didnt mark shit and I was fine. For general civ's I think the best uses/practical uses of chem lights, will either be for marking their tent as you suggested, or creating a buzzsaw for marking/rescue or whatever.

Again I wouldn't completely dismiss it just because youve never seen it. You brought up other great uses, and those work great aswell, but I know Ive always also used them for marking 'clear', and ive been to school houses that bring in guys from all over, and they all do the same thing, so im assuming its pretty well known.
>>
>>32825978
there other reasons to use chemlites. casualty collection points for example. one of my plans that I didnt get to impelemnt at msw was to actually mark nato positions. like if there was a position that was mowing down our guys, toss a chemlite below the window/door and point it out to someone with a pea grenade or tag launcher.

uses chemlites to mark occupied and cleared buildings. hang chemlites out the windows, and if the building is attacked or about to be retaken by enemy, pull the chemlites in

Eh, I mean, I'm aware of the issue - I've torn the waist bag off a few times intentionally, because I neither really trust grimlocs, to see if my fears were unfounded (they were not). However, it is still something I see as worth doing anyways, running the grimlocs this way around - so it can work on other platforms than the battle belt as well. Specifically, the waist bag came with a detachable belt, with some rather questionable functionality QD wise, so I removed it's own connecting hardware altogether, and mounted grimlocs instead. This is so I can have a variety of mounting options: I can hook the grimlocs on my battle belt, so the waist bag works a general purpose pouch, which is it's primary purpose, or I can hook the grimlocs on pants' belt loops for the bag to be carried without any tactical gear (read: in normal life) as a hip bag, or I can attach the belt back on to the grimlocs and wear it that way. Having the grimlocs be mounted on the belt, instead of on the waist bag, would make the other options difficult to enact swiftly.

However, I admit: while I thought the idea of a waist bag as a general purpose pouch would be good, I have to say I am not satisfied with it. The issue is same as with the currently fashionable "dangler" pouches - it flops around too much. Because of that I'm planning to swap out the waist bag for a normal general purpose pouch, and two pistol mag pouches (one for multitool, one for flashlight). Just need dough for it.

As for the TACOs - no, I've never noticed any issues in the cold with the shockcord. Admittedly; I've never ran the damn pouches in any colder weather than around -10 degrees Celsius (about 10 degrees Fahrenheit) - there were some really cold times during my conscription, but I did that time mostly with issued gear, mostly. Meaning, no TACOs there to test in -30 degrees Celsius (-25 Fahrenheit). However I can say I'd trust them even in that kind of weather, even if I haven't tested said trust.

While I'm not an ultra-operator-doorkicker, I can say even grunts can have uses for chemlites. I mostly used them to mark out casualties, and casualty clearing points in the dark, for triage purposes. Reading the bright red/yellow/green/blue triage cards off bodies, even simulated bodies on exercises, was sort of a pain in the ass in the dark, so I used chemlites instead for triage purposes. Same for casualty clearance points; I preferred to split them into a few spots marked by chemlites, hoarding the casualties based on triage to their correct spots, so you can just see at glance "that area's full of reds, that's full of yellows, that's full of greens", and so on.

First Spear Mini Admin in Ranger Green. Honestly, it's a pretty bad design. Firstly, despite an admin pouch's main purpose being organization of various stuff, there's no organizational features whatsoever inside. No loops, smaller pockets, nothing. It's just a pouch. Secondly, due to it's small nature, it is quite limited on what can fit inside, and I can guarantee it can't nor won't fit even half of a combat NCO's load inside it, not to mention someone who actually spends half of their time doing notes, like a medical NCO. Thirdly, the closure is pretty awful, the tab folding behind the pouch, making using it a hassle. While I like FS gear in general, this one is honestly lackluster.

A good IFAK should contain a pressure bandage, pair of chest seals (remember: there's always an exit wound), a nasopharyngeal airway and/or an oral airway, a thoracostomy needle/catherer, and hemostatic powder. Naturally also a pair of tourniquets, however they can also be carried outside your IFAK - what matters is that they're swiftly available with both of your hands, in case the other one is blown off or otherwise fucked.

Recommendations for each item:
- CAT for tourniquet - piss easy and fast as fuck to use, while being very, very effective. SOF-TT is another viable alternative. RAT is not an option, throw it into trash.
- HALO is a good chest seal, they come in pairs and are easy and fast to use.
- If you're American, Israeli bandages work pretty well. However some Europeans have superior variants around, but I'd still go with the Israeli one, just because most people are more familiar with it.
- For the thoracostomy needle, I'm not even sure if anyone else but TyTek make fieldworthy ones.
- For hemostatic powder, Celox is recommended. If you go with something else, make sure to pick a kind that does not heat up in use. While burns are preferable to death, they're not exactly nice anyways. Extra complications are never appreciated.

Don't know how to use some of the items? No worries. IFAK is not only for your own use, but also for the medic who treats you: a medic primarily uses the IFAK of the wounded fighter, not his own supplies, unless the target has managed to lose his own IFAK somehow, or the medic needs specialty supplies not found in the IFAK. IFAK is half there for you to fix your own shit - and half so others can fix your shit for you.

Hemostatic dressing is a giant pain in the ass to apply and to shove into wounds, and as such I'd really recommend Celox powder instead of dressing.

How much of a meme are pistol mag kangaroo pouches?

I'm assembling a pc and think I'd rather go with a triple 30rd mag pouch that could hold six m4 mags than 3/3 m4/pistol

I mean how much of a problem would it be to put some lower profile dedicated pistol mag pouches on the side, or on my belt

To each your own, I like celox dressings.

Are you perhaps talking about a taco? Kangaroo pouch inserts are like on the Mayflower APC and the LBT 6094 where just behind the front molle there is a pouch to put stuff in, usually you can get an insert for it but I haven't heard of any that are exclusively made to hold 5.56 mags and pistol mags. I know LBT makes a 9mm mag insert but again, that holds only 9mm mags.

I would just recommend putting two single 9mm taco's on the left side of your belt, if you don't run one then stick them on the left side of your cummerbund; shouldn't be an issue and won't get in the way.

(Nice list but IFAK stuff is something that defiantly needs a "peer-review" before being put in the OP copy pasta)

As a last note, everything I say should be taken with a grain of salt: I might be trained as a combat medic, and studied emergency medicine, but I've never deployed, and in fact have never treated and acute combat casualty in my life outside of simulated exercises. And on the school side haven't graduated either, and in fact am planning to drop out. So if a more knowing medic appears and wants to fix my shit, please do.

>retards spilling the powder
You find the wound, open the packaging, and dump it into the wound. Not exactly nuclear science, a trained monkey could do it, not to mention an educated fighter.
>powder blowing in eyes
See above.
>retards dumping it all over and running out
You just dump it onto a single wound, or if you have multiples requiring it (which can be the case in normal warfare - see: shrapnel), onto all of them. There's no need to save it, you don't save it for the next casualty, the next casualty is treated with his own.

Yeah, they are, raid modified tigerstripe BDUs. Stitching is okay, but the fabric is incredibly thin and prone to failure - while it makes the fatigues incredibly comfortable in summer, it also means they can't take too much abuse. The pattern itself also washes out almost immediately. I see it as worth it, for comfortable pants in a pimpin' pattern, but your mileage may vary.

Here is what I was looking at. My pc is AWS Inc, I'm pretty impressed with the build quality and was going to buy pouches from them as well.

https://www.awsin.com/products.asp?id=234

>triple stack 30rd mag pouch
#2-51727

>pistol/rifle kangaroo pouches
#3-52088

My rationale is I could get the first one and be able to carry six mags for my primary, but I don't have to. If I get the second option I'm limited, especially if I could just throw a couple dedicated pouches on the side for a sidearm like you suggest.
