Shoutout to Daewoo for these mags

>>32810638
>Radioshack speakers
Technics actually and they sound fantastic.
>Snowball
It's good for games/client calls and that's all it's for
>Mismatched monitors
Got me there, I had two matching 144hz monitors but the ultrawide plus the other two is way more productive for my animation work.
>Rainier
I love their stuff, not sure what you're trying to say here.

I got it because the shape is nice and fits my upper well. And I love the ambi controls. I do think the rollmarks are a bit much but the advantages outweigh that issue.

Was asking before about SBRing my Draco, wanting to make it an underfolder. Thinking now about expanding my possibilities- looking for other experience with this. Should I look into a trunnion swap to a standard rear? What about a side-folder? I have Google'd a fair amount but I'm looking to see if any /k/ommandos have first-hand experience?

I've always wanted a saiga 12, since I was a kid, and the vepr is even more tits.

Should I get the folding or the fixed stock? If I get the fixed I can put like an M4 adapter on which seems like it'd be more comfortable than the original stock

That's kind of my thought. I mean I don't weld, so it'd be something I'd have to send out. What's a ballpark range that a smith would charge for a triangle conversion? 400 plus parts? I've seen that range mentioned online. Though an underfolder conversion may be less. If I could find a Romy UF trunnion , I could maybe do that myself, since I'd not have to weld, just drill and rivet. Then there's pic related side folders, which are cheaper, but just don't look right to me.

There are actually probably more aftermarket brakes in 14mm threads. Arsenals and other AK-74 pattern rifles are the only ones that use 24mm threads. That said, a lot of the very high-quality brakes (Zenit, SRVV, etc) use 24mm, but I think they have 14mm versions for a price markup.

>But what is made today in the US that is a great example of an innovative and fine crafted firearm?

Does innovation have to be intended?

I'm going to catch so much shit for this, but after learning about them and building one myself I'll nominate the Armalite Rifle for that. Wholly successful by accident. I am pretty fucking sure Eugene Stoner didn't intend for his design to be as flexible or lego-like as it is, but that's what happened. Everything good about it that we value today was pretty much irrelevant in 1960, apart from the weight and handling. It's adaptible and can be constructed with a few turns of a wrench to do whatever the hell you may want it to do. Swap that pussy 5.56 out for legit .300 blackout or even .50 Beowulf if inclined. If you want full-size, you're covered. My uncle's .308 version is the biggest and loudest motherfucker in my family right now and even its recoil is not much worse than my WASR.

Although this probably doesn't meet your criteria as the AR design is now... oh... 60 years old?

>Wholly successful by accident

Not so, the AR-15s adoption by the US military is a story filled with corrupt corporatist politics, backdoor deals with politicians at lunch parties, disastrous choices and many other blunders by the government and its contractors at Colt, costing thousands of US lives. It was innovative by its use of lightweight materials and design and use of the 5.56 cartridge, but it's been more of a blunder which has been band-aided over the years, and we've kept it probably because everything the military does is a cluster fuck and it would rather put it new transgender bathrooms and use its navy as giant welfare birthing vessels than to give it's troops a proper modern infantry rifle like the scar.

I call it a success because of what has happened with it. Barrels of all lengths. Grips of all types. Handguards however you want. Pick your caliber and it probably exists in AR form. Want a scope? Screw it on and zero. Want some other bullshit? Screw it on and zero it. Bango. Done.

I don't care about its history. Look at the fucking gun market today. Look what has happened since the AWB expired, and look at what fucking rifle has been at the center of all that growth. The AR has had a major effect on the gun industry whether you like the design or not.

>a proper modern infantry rifle like the scar.

Yes, I know that the aftermarket has catered to it, but as you stated earlier, this was not what Stoner and company had in mind when designing the rifle. All of the mall ninja stuff that you see is a result of the American firearms industry, and here's another protip: most of that aftermarket shit is Chinese made junk that does nothing to make the rifle a better fighting rifle. I'm glad that businesses have been able to profit from it, but like I said, you're arguing the rifle's merits from an economic standpoint. Tell those merits to the infantrymen who had their fucking face blown off by 7.62x39 in Laos and Cambodia when their rifles took a fucking shit.

>SCAR
>Copied half of it

The AR's lower design and features have been involved in many other rifles, it's a great design and possibly the best part of that rifle. Nobody else has copied the AR's absolutely pants on head retarded DI gas system, except for maybe the Koreans in one rifle and maybe another I'm not aware of. Having said that, most great rifles have implemented the Kalashnikov's long stroke gas piston design, including the SCAR, which FN greatly improved upon and practically removed most all recoil impulse from the 7.62 NATO cartridge, which, I will also add, FN designed to be able to change calibers from the outset, as opposed to the aftermarket and US economy making this possible in the AR platform.

>ak stupid simple design
But it can't be replicated cost efficiently in the US market. The materials, construction methods and specs must be followed the commie way for them to last. It just doesn't work here.
>>

>Tell those merits to the infantrymen who had their fucking face blown off by 7.62x39 in Laos and Cambodia when their rifles took a fucking shit.

>Three types of weapons failed the soldiers that fateful day: the M-16 rifle, the SAW machine gun and a .50-caliber machine gun. The Army report said this could have resulted from "inadequate maintenance in a desert environment."

U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., a medical doctor, has frequently addressed the problem of weapons jamming in the desert at critical moments during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

He said the weapons that tended to jam at the wrong times included the M-16, the M-4/AR-15 rifle and the SAW machine gun, and he has tried to get the U.S. military to modify these weapons or issue different ones.

https://www.stripes.com/news/army/battle-heroes-of-fort-bliss-maintenance-company-remembered-1.213200

Keep in mind, there are TYPE 1 AK-47 models with original barrels and receivers still being used RIGHT NOW in the middle East, rifles that are approaching 60 years old.

Like I said, the weapon (AR)is a perpetual band aid fix on an inherently shit design. There's a great book called "The Gun" by CJ chivers which devotes a chapter to the development history of the ar-15 and it's initial deployment in Vietnam. It's absolutely rage inducing, and made me hate the government even more than I did prior.

A lot of people like ARs because of the looks of it and all of the ninja gear you can throw on it, and you can paint it all kinds of colors, make it "kustom" and it may or may not perform better than the government issue models, who knows when it's just a bunch of companies hawking bullshit parts in a saturated and competitive market.

Point is, Americans haven't made a rifle as good or better than rifles like the SCAR, SIG 550, or even the AK-74 for Christ's sake. It's sad.

You might have a bur on your mag catch.

Push up and forward you fucking mongoloid
>>
>>32822328
if I push up the mag catch just reengages

this is what happens:
push on mag release til its next to the magwell (all the way forward it can go)
mag release gets stuck forward next to the magwell which I'm assuming it's not supposed to do. I don't have to actively press it and it'll stay there
pressing up on the mag makes the release reengage
i push forward and pull down on the mag to wrestle it out of the gun

Is it kinda retarded that I want to get a WASR, sand and polish it down to a mirror finish, and gold plate it. (I know the process, I've done it before with jewelry) Then put the super red and shiny "Russian Red" furniture on it?
>>
>>32822825
Doo eet!!
Actual gold plating? Like 24kt?
Bonus points for 24kt gold tigerstripe and a matching vz61.
>>

>>
>>32822825
"Russian Red" isn't really Russian. Do ivory like >>32822852 said or just use some NOS surplus wood.
>>
>>32822852
Nah, I was thinking about doing a matching Makarov too though.

Been crunching some numbers and the electro-plating solution would probably only be maybe ~$400 or so for enough for the rifle parts and the pistol. I'd just have to rig up something to get the right amount of electricity going steady for that big of batch, that way I'm not paying $1000+ for just the gold plater.
>>
>>32822866
Surplus in a darker brown looks pretty good too.

>>32822874

>>32822980
There's a couple others I like with that look too, but I think it's mostly just a "gangster" type appeal. IMO, Desert Eagles should always be in either silver or gold plating because if you're gonna go full retard, go FULL retard.

Also, MAC-10s/-11s and Winchester 1200s with no stock and a heat shield look neat to me in silver plating, but that's probably my distant Mexican side speaking for me.

How many rounds would one of those AMD-65 barrels from Classic Firearms last through? I know it is a super soft barrel. Would it be possible to pull the barrel and heat treat it to the proper hardness? I got one of the kits from their site. Should I just build the rifle and swap the barrel out after it looses its rifling?
>>
>>32823084
>got one of the kits
Just get a replacement barrel now while it's still a kit and don't worry about it. Replacing an AK barrel is not a fun endeavor, nor is it doable without a shitload of work. There's a reason people rag on US-made barrels instead of combloc ones, and that's because while the US-made ones are generally ok, they're not the same quality as the combloc barrels and it's not exactly an easy upgrade like it is on an AR once the barrel shits the bed.

Gas operated, it would take a major redesign to make a blowback Saiga 12.

You know how the part of the magazine that hides inside the gun is usually flat on both sides and has a little ridge

On long tops it's about twice as long

If you can solve a "spot the difference" designed for 6 year olds you should be able to pull this one off

There's a line that goes across the magazine about 1/3 of the way down
