I want to get a Ruger 10/22 (or similar) as a hiking rifle. Recommendations on carbine vs takedown vs other models? I'd prefer to spend $300 or less.
>I want to get a Ruger 10/22
Then fucking get one you beta pussy.
Get the Takedown. Super convenient for a hiking rifle.
Otherwise, get the absolute cheapest standard 10/22 and go from there.

I got a 10/22 takedown tactical, with a bushnell TRS on it.
By far my favorite rifle, would sit and plink at the range all day if it weren't $20 an hour or $550 a year.
The damn thing is so handy I keep it attached to my Go-Bag as a tertiary weapon to my WASR-10/63 and P320 and is my favorite varminter.

Get a takedown and then put a folding stock on it, very compact.
Pic related is a nice setup, can transport it with a loaded 10rd mag and empty chamber, then bring a couple of spare BX25 mags (loaded, of course).

Get a better range, Jesus go outside of town somewhere and put up some cans and plink, either a forest (if you can find a nice hill to use as a backdrop), or an old quarry (where basically the entire thing is a backstop).

How's your AMD by the way? I hear some people say their barrels are suspicious.
Also do you use the original furniture or something that's actually nice, like normal AK furniture?
if you plan to scope it skip the takedown. if your not going to scope it spend the extra on a takedown

Wait, I misread WASR as AMD somehow, ignore me being a retard, any WASR made in the past 8 or so years have been acceptable.

Best little gun I own. within 100yds, all 30 shots can be put into a dime.
Non-invasive gun to shoot (relatively quiet), great trainer for larger caliber marksman shooting, EXTREMELY cheap, and fun for other to shoot with you like girls or the inexperienced because its not loud and doesn't kick.
the 10/22 is far and away the most enjoyable gun I have.
Thank all you guys for the help. I'll be picking one up, tomorrow.

>within 100yds, all 30 shots can be put into a dime.
Bull. Shit.
You couldn't do that with an accurized 10/22 at half that distance. Rimfirecentral is full of people skillfully trying to do that and nearly none of them can, no matter how much money they throw at a project.
You better post some targets, bucko.
inb4 flier excuses
Bought a Takedown tactical on Friday, been testing it with a suppressor and subsonic the whole weekend.
I am wondering why I didnt buy a 10/22 years ago.
But for fucks sake, be realistic faggots. A cheap 22, in a takedown setup will never give amazing accuracy. If you expect that, you will be disappointed.
Is a ruger 10/22 any good for hunting? Or should I look for a higher caliber?

for small game sure

So I'm gonna need something more powerful for deer?
>>32816817
50 cal minimum
>>32816852
I'm talking about deer not jeeps
>>32816817
Are you the guy that asked me if I've ever seen a deer shot by .22 four years ago?
>>32816817
you could kill a deer with a 22 (22lr has killed everything) but there a good chance you wont drop it instantly. it runs away and dies of infection in the woods a month later.
im pretty sure its illegal in most states too.
>>32816817
>So I'm gonna need something more powerful for deer?
It's illegal to hunt deer with .223s in some states, a .22 is more of a rabbit gun.
>>32816926
So what's a good one to buy for deer?
>>32816945
When deer hunting, it's hard to go wrong with just about any 30 cal rifle.
>>32816971
Any specific gun in mind? I got around $500-$800 in my budget currently.
>>32816817
Yes, like at least a .357 revolver with an 8" barrel (and maybe a red dot or small scope, keep in mind that handgun hunting is not at all as easy) or a classic .30-30 rifle (generally one of the calibers people will immediately think of on the subject of hunting deer).
You could use .223 but I'd insist on a 20" barrel, and I wouldn't use basic bitch ball ammo, pick something which advertises greater penetration.
Generally, any time someone has killed deer with .22LR, it died slowly and horribly while a lot of meat was ruined. The chance of it escaping and then dying slowly of an infection is pretty large.
So please don't.

Marlin 336C in .30-30
Just the right kind of power and it'll make you feel like a cowboy.
