Commissioned in July of 1941, the U-133 was a Type VIIC boat. The U-133 sank 1 ship during its short career, the HMS Gurkha, a British destroyer. It operated in Wolf-packs: Stosstrupp, Raubritter, and Störtebecker.

U-133 was lost when she hit an underwater mine on 14 March 1942. Everybody aboard perished. The ship's final resting place is just off the coast of Greece.

And odd myth exists concerning this U-boat. After the war, an American newspaper wrote a story about U-133. According to the paper, the submarine had been sent on a secret mission to destroy the Hoover Dam by sailing up the Colorado river. The article further claimed that the crew had made it all the way to Laughlin, Nevada before giving up. No evidence exists to corroborate this claim, and it is consider to be a fabrication.

>>32798287
"U-287 was on patrol east of the Orkney Islands when it received the order to cease fire and its crew decided to return to Germany instead to surrender to the nearest Allied forces as instructed. Knowing that they would be punished for disobeying orders and destroying their U-boat they landed 36 crew members with dinghies at Cuxhaven-Altenbruch, where the population helped them to change into civilian clothes and to head home to their families. The commander, II. WO, LI and five ratings scuttled U-287 further upstream, went ashore on the other side of the Elbe where the LI and three of the ratings voluntarily went into captivity, telling the interrogators that they were the only four survivors from U-287 that struck a mine upon entering the Elbe estuary on 16 May 1945. They apparently told their story so convincing that this made up fate remained the official cause of loss for more than 40 years until the veterans eventually shared the true story of the sinking."

Kind of neat. Didn't sink anything though. Whole crew survived the war so that's nice.

German Cross in Gold
The medal was awarded for outstanding achievements and bravery in combat but not quite worthy of even higher ranked Knight's Cross. The recipient had to already have won the Iron Cross 1st class (and 2nd class before that). A cloth version existed for easier use in combat. The medal was worn on the right hand pocket of the tunic.

Other than depth charges (and later the Fido), there isn't really all that much that will kill a submerged boat. And most surfaced boats that were killed were sunk by aircraft-dropped depth bombs (set to detonate shallow).
When it's practically the only weapon around, getting a high portion of the kills is hardly surprising.

Komm in mein Boot
Ein Sturm kommt auf / und es wird Nacht
Wo willst do hin
So ganz allein / treibst do davon
Wer hält deine Hand
Wenn es dich / nach unten zieht

Wo willst do hin
So uferlos / die kalte See
Komm in mein Boot
Der Herbstwind hält / die Segel straff

Jetzt stehst do da an der Laterne
Hast Tränen I'm Gesicht
Das Abendlicht verjagt die Schatten
Die Zeit steht still und es wird Herbst

Komm in mein Boot
Die Sehnsucht wird / der Steuermann
Komm in mein Boot
Der beste Seemann / war doch ich

Jetzt stehst do da an der Laterne
Hast Tränen I'm Gesicht
Das Feuer nimmst do von der Kerze
Die Zeit steht still und es wird Herbst

Sie sprachen nur von deiner Mutter
So gnadenlos ist nur die Nacht
Am Ende bleib ich doch alleine
Die Zeit steht still
Und mir ist kalt
