I find it funny when people blame "Fucken liberals" for counter-insurgency failures. Like, really, what are they suggesting?

They seem to think you should either murder everyone there, or you should form an empire.

Murdering everyone there isn't really effective at solving your main problem: it's a violent region without secure state institutions that is a breeding ground for terrorism. You can't kill everyone, and if you go and try to murder tons of people all that you leave is very angry people who are more likely to assist terrorists or become terrorists.

Conversely, you could try to form an empire, but then you bleed cash forever trying to hold onto it and still end up having to fight counter-insurgencies.
