Depends on new canon or in the old canon. In the old canon, they just were really loyal. There were a bunch who didn't obey 66 because they were either really close to the jedi or even had relationships with some of them. Also, the commandos were more self aware and a lot of them went mia when 66 rolled around. Some people also crashed and drifted and were not concious to receive the order.

In the new canon some of them actually ripped the chips from their heads too.

Assuming ye olde chip is not a factor probably not. The jedi were right there fighting beside us while the chancellor sat in his tower on Coruscant.

Probably just slip out when I get a good opportunity. How easy that is depends on my role in the GAR. Get my face and voice changed, and go full Lawquane in some outer rim backwater. Get a little land, find a waifu, live a nice life. Absolutely keep all my gear and weapons, should SHTF it's good to have some top notch gear even if it may end up being a bit outdated down the line. That too depends on the role considering a set of Katarn class armor and a DC-17m are vastly superior to any stormtrooper's kit.
