Why do Slavs insist on spending a ton of time and money to produce fuzzy-ass hats when they could simply issue basic knit caps instead?
>>
Because its cold in slav countries
Fur lined hats are cheaper than a knit cap with an equivalent level of insulation and cold protection
>>
>>32792879
But those aren't slavs.
>>
Finland & Estonia....just mongol country not Slavs...
>>
Because they are comfy and if you put both ear flaps together you can pretend to be a unicorn

Nope. It existed this way centuries before helmets were invented, and this hat is a standard slav hat since stone age.
>>
>>32793093

>>
>>32793132

It's a standard hat anywhere it gets cold enough that exposure to the wind can ruin your ears. If you get anywhere near a point - make it.
>>
>>32792931
Those Estonian hats aren't fur but fleece.
>>
>>32793093
Shitty joke, but onlu face covering thingy we get issued is a puke green Balaclava that usually is onlu used with helmet. The winter facepain we use has oils in it to help agains cold and frostbites.

FDF has pretty bog hardon for facepaints.

The design of the said hat type is old as fuck. Many countries had/have similar style hats still in use, they just look bit different.
US also had same type of hat

>The Finnish army had much better equipment including an ushanka-style fur hat, the turkislakki M36, introduced in 1936. In 1939, shortly before the Winter War, the slightly improved turkislakki M39 was introduced, and is still in use today.[2] After the winter war, the Red Army received completely redesigned winter uniforms. Budenovkas were finally replaced with ushankas based on the Finnish example.

Im sorry to say, but by now, they are. I mean it - technically they are "Balts", but it's old news. Balts are extinct just like Prussians, Im very sorry to say. I wish prussian language survived.

Three reasons:
1. Fake fur hats are warmer than double-layer knit hats with winproof layer between between knit layers. At least Finnish military issues also knit hats, but they tend to be reserved for situations when temperatures are not really cold.
2. Fake fur hats are versatile than knit hats. Folding sides down allows protecting sides of face and back of neck, folding forward part a bit provides a visor of sort (which is handy at sunny weather in terrain covered by white snow).
3. Traditions. As mentioned Finnish Army issued gray version of fake fur hat in large scale at year 1939. Finnish Navy had issued black version of basically the same hat in year 1930. The Soviets copied the hat design to their military year 1940.

>Hats with fur earflaps have been known in Russia, Ukraine, Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia, Macedonia, Bulgaria, and Germany for centuries. The standard modern ushanka with a perfectly round crown was developed in the 20th century. During the Russian Civil War, the ruler of Siberia, Aleksandr Kolchak, introduced a winter uniform hat, commonly referred to as a kolchakovka, c. 1918. It was similar to the ushanka.
>>
>>32793552
>At least Finnish military issues also knit hats, but they tend to be reserved for situations when temperatures are not really cold.
They are also not a part of the "basic" uniform. The knit caps are worn during excercise and if chosen to, in combat gear, but the "ushankas" are worn when going outside for whatever other reason.
>>
I can't speak for Finland but in Russia, the mentioned caps were fake fur for soldiers and real fur for officers. Could be different today.

come on guys, we all know we are mixed by now, since the early middle-ages. I love Fins, I love Estonians, I'm half Lithuenian, but genetically, we're the same.

Are we gona fight about it, or are we gona focus on the important issues, like the motherfucking Islamisation.

Might also be worth noting that there have been several versions of knit hats issued in Finnish military. Back in year 1990's when I did my military service we got issued with all grey rather thin version which had no cockade - referred as sissipipo. Double layer knit hat design with one side white and another side green was issued as M/91. The version shown in the photo earlier (gray with cockade) is probably newer the other two.

Rabbit fur sounds likely, yeah. Cheap, warm and fairly thin so well suitable for the purpose.
>>
>>32793692

*snerk* fish fur is an old joke. Fish skin was however reality here in Norway during ww2 as a subsitute material for leather. They made shoes of them among other things.

This thing is fucking crazy, it also has a windstopper membrane sandwiched inside. It needs to be really, really cold for it to be wearable whilst doing anything else than just standing around. The newer green one is basically the same as the old gray one, just a different colour. It feels a bit fancier too, softer.
