I'm an AK guy through and through, but I've got more money than sense and lately I've been consumed by the idea of doing a bargain-basement PSA AR build and paint it to look like pic related.

Does anyone here have experience painting their shit and how would I go about doing it?

50 foot range my ass
>>
prep work is everything
cure time is important

even with good prep spraypaint cans are shit and wear off
>>
>>32788214
Yeah, but I'd rather paint it at home than having to deal with the shame of going to a local anodizing/powder coating place and explaining to them that I'm painting an AR-15 to look like a children's toy from 25 years ago.

Speak nothing of going to an actual gunsmith.

Clean your rifle with degreaser first, then paint, also cover important shit with painters tape so the rifle is still functional afterward.

Paint has a tendency to wear off with use so don't freak out over having to repaint.

The sad thing is, there are people out there who would buy that steaming pile of shit

If its legal where you live
Id be leery of people who "think they understand the law"
I painted my thread protector floresant orange once because i kept loosing it on the range and in the field. A (fucking idiot) at the range saw it and called a range officer over , who was eaisly persuaded by this (huge fucking idiot) that what i had done was a felony. They held my drivers license there until a sheriff arrived , which took fucking forever.
Who wanted to question EVERY FUCKING gun i owned. Ran me through every system he could think of and told me he would have to take the gun as evidence and give me a seizure of property slip until a detective could work out if an actual crime had been committed.
This all turned out fucking fantastic when i called my gun trust lawyer who took forever to call back, but was able to straighten shit out with the DA and the "detective" that never made it out.

Can confirm that thing was a pile of shit and leaked all over the place.

This, right here, is why I hate muh gun culture.

Don't get me wrong. I guns, but you won't catch me at a fucking gun show or public range. 90% shitheads, fudds, and paranoid schizophrenics

If you want to go above the level of just spray paint-

Harbor freight air brush kits, they go on sale for less than 5$ each. Buy one for each color.

Duracoat paint kits, get the thinner also. Whatever colors.

Sand everything lightly. Then soap and water clean. Hit with compressed air to dry.

Brake cleaner spray everything. Again compressed air to dry. Wait for it to warm back up after this.

You should have been wearing gloves for all the above cleaning steps.

Hang the bits on bent coat hangers or wires.

Spray your colors, leave them hanging to dry.

If you're just spray painting everything, then still clean the hell out of it.

you can do your own powder coating if you're serious, all you need is about $100 worth of powder coating gun and the cheapest toaster oven you can find on craigslist.

I'd suggest against anodizing (which should be even cheaper to do yourself at home) since you'll never get the kind of bright colors you would with powder coating.
>>
use high temp sprays like ones meant for engines and brake calipers, finish with a clear coat, probably satin or matte; gloss probably looks a shit on guns.

Bumping for interest. Eventually, I want to get a kinda cheap AK for my wife and paint it all up in the color scheme of the Master Sword from Zelda. I'm trying to get her into guns more, she's a huge Nintendo nerd. Maybe even etch "It's dangerous to go alone, take this" on it somewhere

I am looking at getting one of these on the cheap, how can I finish it cheaply? Was thinking black appliance enamel and cooking it in the toaster oven.

anyone else impulsive but also get buyers remorse ?
>have two pistols, .357 revolver and M&P shield
>think its time to get a rifle
>but that p226 sure likes nice
>I dont have a DA/SA, maybe get on in .45 to mix it up
>but I also want a 1911
>all in all I dont need something new either, and my roomates my get mad if I bring home an armory

I cant pull the trigger(lel) on some of these purchases and when I do Im so indecisive. Ill spend hours researching a gun, looking at photos of it, getting all excited and then get bored and move on to something else. The cycle continues. It took me almost a month to buy the revolver
