Nah the Garand is too sentimental and I actually shoot it. The only reason why I sold all my milsurp is because I just never shot it and they all just sat in the safe. I just have more of an interest in educating myself in milsurp than spending tons of money collecting every variant I want.

I shot a regular 92FS as a rental a couple years ago and liked it. My dad also loved his 92F when he had it and wanted to get it for me as a gift. Haven't shot either of these yet though. Inox is brand-new made in 2016 and the P38 is a 1959 postwar.

I'm guessing the prices are steep because I'm in a gun-unfriendly state (CT), but the Inox was $710 that I got down to $690 and the P38 was $700 but I talked it down to $630

Saw one of these at cabela's for $800.

It was a nazi produced model (late war) but all the stampings on the right side of the gun were scratched out and the serial number was scrawled in huge engraved numbers on the side of the slide. Looked like an 8 year old wrote it, i'm not even joking.

Wonder what was up with that.

That price is pretty steep for a wartime gun in the condition you described. But then again, it's par for the course with Cabela's. Occasionally I've found good deals there, but it's a rare event. I picked up my Steyr-Pieper 1908 for $175.

I got a decent deal on a P320 there once ($400 used but mint) i guess.

I also bought an FN M1900 there for $300 out of pocket, but I had $350 in gift cards so for $650 it wouldn't have been a good deal if I didn't have those gift cards.

That Pre-B is gorgeous.
I picked up a blued '89 not too long ago, but it's a little on the rough side.
Someday I want to have it restored to its former glory. I could have gotten one with an enamel finish that was in a bit better shape, but I'm a real sucker for a blued finish.

It's shiny, the new ones are matte. It looks really good, and I think the rounded trigger guard looks much better. When I have the cash, I'd love to pick one of the surplus Pre-Bs up and refinish it.

I've got a later Cz-75 B in glossy blue, and it looks great, much nicer finish than the matte black, imo. A little time with a polishing wheel and a rust or hot blue, and I think that would look fantastic.

>What's the size difference between the Bulgy Makarov and the P64? Have you ever CCed either?
Mak is larger and different internally. Mak has a nicer DA (SA is about the same) and a larger magazine. Both have tiny sights and a decent amount of snap to them. I have carried the P64 in the past and carry the mak now. They are heavy for what they are. Mak will be replaced by g43 for carry soon enough.

I lusted after the glossy blue 75 B's for a while, they're great looking guns.

I hate to say it, but I'm way too scared to fuck up my gun to refinish it myself. The patina it has right now has enough charm, so I'm content to wait to refinish it for a while.

If you're looking at Pre-B's, there's some great deals on Gunbroker. This one caught my eye recently:

The history of the paint:
>Factory finish

>Paints over that with primer white
>Paints over primer white with black
Previous owner also welded a washer to the mainspring retainer to act as a lanyard loop.

I scraped it off and blasted it with krylon, the gun feels lighter now. Ill have it blued or something eventually but Its a cheap shit project gun for when I get bored.

I won't lie, if the gun didn't rust easily, and had that finish, I'd dig the shit outta it.

I've got a CZ-75 I picked up from gunbroker, the finish didn't bother me, but the trigger was shitty beyond belief. I've got plans to buy a new hammer and sear for it, I'm also thinking about sending it to h&m metal for media blasting and a nitride finish. I've been meaning to call them and talk to them about it.
>>
>>32800151
excellent choice so far. i can see youve done a bit of research instead of just buying whats in front of you or what you can afford right now. a trap ive unfortunately fallen into more than a few times. if you reload, my vote is 308 bolt gun. a shot gun is something everyone should have but you can pick one up any time. fal would be a close second for me.
the pro is kind of a toss up.
>>

>I won't lie, if the gun didn't rust easily, and had that finish, I'd dig the shit outta it.
The issue I had was that the paint was flecking/melting off into my hands and I didnt want to absorb 80s era israeli made paint.

That kinda surprises me. Is it one of the Israeli surplus guns? I suspect that's what mine is and the trigger is fucking fantastic. I had to clean some sand and Israeli pocket lint out of it to get rid of the grittiness, but it's worlds better than my 75B Compact.
>>
>>32809777
I can't quite remember, the double action is fine, but the single action has 2 very distinctive steps before it fires. You can also feel the trigger "grinding" as you pull it. I've had the gun completely apart twice, aside from the barrel bushing and sights, and the triggers still fucked. I don't even know how the trigger/sear would wear like this.

>>
>>32809903
>What condition do you carry the mak in, and what did you carry the p64 in?
Hammer down safety on. Flick safety off and DA for first shot.
I carried P64 with safety at the 1/2 position which allows the hammer back but keeps the safety engaged. Sweep safety down and SA for first shot
>That's really cool, where did you get the Rhodesian FAL?
A piece here, a piece there
>What is your favorite battle rifle to shoot?
FAL balances better than the PTR so it feels more refined. But the PTR with the slap and huge pieces makes you feel like youre in an action movie. Id say its a solid tie between the two.

On grunts and boots when they lost their shit and tried to sink my track.

Only ever did swing it in anger once, I was doing some opfor bullshit in Kuwait after sitting on my hands at the border and I swung it at a bedouin who kept getting to close to me and my friend.

My buddy actually swung at him and knocked the poor guy out so we booked it, in our excitement we forgot these rubber rifles we borrowed and we shit ourselves when we realized this.

I thought we were dead for sure, we knock out a haji in a non hostile country AND lose the army's rubber rifles?

God must've had mercy on us because the rifles were still there, the haji was gone though.

Just one of the many things I did over there that would've made my SNCOs shit their pants.

I hold on to it in the hopes I'll get to bash some commie heads with it

Yeah, that looks good, imo, gives it character. The glossy blue looks great when it's polished but it picks up fingerprints and scratches easily. I'm obviously no expert on guns, but from what I could tell the Hi-power was barely, if ever, fired. It's was manufactured in 1972 and there's not a scratch on it. Looks mint. Can't say the same for the 1903. Someone (might have been even before my grandfather) removed the grips and put homemade grips that look like someone whittled some wood with a pocket knife.

My mother wanted me to shoot it rather than sell it regardless of its condition though, not that I would even think about it. Both shoot like a dream.

Oh, huh, I've read about carrying the P64 that way, did it seem safe? Are P64s down to fire? I thought it was the other way. It's still not drop safe, I imagine. I don't know, the price is right, but I'll be carrying it AIWB, so an AD would be disastrous probably.

Why did you switch to the Mak?
>>
>>32809982
Well, the price was right. Not sure what's wrong with the trigger, but I hope you can sort it out, I have an Israeli surplus and the trigger is great, slight takeup and clean break in SA.

Sounds like something specific needs to be replaced or smoothed, but I can't say what.

Did you replace the trigger return spring? They are wear items on CZs.

How do you like the shield 45?
>>
>>32810079
I've got an OWB leather holster that I wear OWB but inside the belt around 5 o'clock. Not sure about the brand, I got it on Ebay.

I've been experimenting with Mexican carry at 2 o'clock and an empty chamber and it's worked pretty well, quick draw, comfortable in various positions. I'm thinking about getting a kydex trigger guard, and carrying like that, condition 1.

The full size is probably too long for that, but it might work.
>>
>>32789367
>>32799927
Nah, that's great, imo. You should wear it handle forward at 5 o'clock, and practice the cavalry draw like they used on old SA revolvers. If someone steps to you, one smooth draw, a flip and they're looking at a gold Rhino, urban cowboy aesthetics.

That's a super cool collection.

I like my MAB but it's been giving me a lot of light primer strikes lately. I'm not sure what the fix is, I suspect it might need a new firing pin spring but parts are impossible to find.
>>
>>32810916
a lot of those guns use identical or nearly identical parts. look for similar sized striker guns and theres a good chance the strikers are interchangeable.

for example - that Galesi on the bottom doesnt have a striker or a spring for it, but I still shoot it using the striker and spring from the 1908 Colt.
