My first pair of combat boots went to shit so it's finally time for a new pair.

I was never in any military organization but I found regular non-steel toed combat boots practical so I bought myself a lightly used pair around 6 years ago.

Now I want to start off on the right foot so to speak, and treat them good from day one. Having never been in the military I haven't ever had to break in combat boots myself.
A friend of mine reckons the first thing I should do is put a big sausage of polish around where the sole is stitched to the top part (sorry, English is not my first language) and use a lighter to seal the stitching or whatever. Is he full of shit or is this legit advice?

I've been using jungle boots as a civvie for 2 years now and i swear by them, and will be issued a pair when i start basic in 3 days.
Jungle boots are the shit for warm climates.
for colder climates, get the bundeswehr boots, i don't know what they're called
>>
>>32785842
>bundeswehr boots
Yeah, I had a pair of the 2005 model so far and now I'm getting the older model (OP pic). I love them, perfect for every time of the year here except mid summer in which case I go with sandals or barefoot most of the time anyway.
>>
>>32785842
cont.
the stitching in one of my boots slightly came apart in the spot you're talking about, but taking a flame to a pair of boots, especially leather ones, is never a good idea.
just use electrical tape if they ever come apart, but 6 years seems like a pretty good life span desu
>>
>>32785875
I think I didn't explain the part with the lighter very well.
The idea is to put a lot of shoe polish around the sole, then melt it using the lighter which leads to the polish filling up tiny gaps and supposedly makes them more water resistant.
>>
>>32785905
you don't really want your boots to be sealed that tightly because you want moisture to escape in order to avoid fungus and blisters and such, which is why jungle boots have humidity vents to remove water.
let your feet breathe as much as you can.

>Military boots

Are you even trying?

They're mass produced garbage. Buy backpacking boots. Anything by Salomon. Merrells are shit in my experience and opinion but still better than fucking bundeswehr trash.

Jungle boots are absolute shit, I don't even know how people actually walk around and exist in them. Literally can't think of a bigger hunk of shit than them.

Duluth Military Jacket.

Ripstop fabric, double and triple stitch on all seams, 14 pockets 4 of which I can fit 2 30 round ak mags in each. Doesn't make me look like a an opr8tr

TROLL
>retards who think old issued boots are goat and that hikers are for sissies
NOT TROLLS

tfw the 75th Ranger Regiment gave up on issued boots altogether and made a list of approved civilian hikers (Salomon, Asolo, Merrells, Danners).

tfw nobody in SF wears AR670 compliant army boots unless forced to

tfw UKSF favors Salomon, Aku, Scarpa

>>32786198

no, if you're young you just look like someone with no social skills
and if you're old and over the hill you look like a slob
>>
>>32786264
Nobody ever said military issue boots were GOAT, just that claiming the opposite is retarded.
Not my fault if Murrikans can't make boots.
>>
>>32786264
Yeah cuz wearing old russian surplus shit and camo in anywhere but the woods makes you look like a functional fucking human being.

Recommendation on insoles I can use to replace the normal insoles in my boots?

>Yeah cuz wearing old russian surplus shit and camo in anywhere but the woods makes you look like a functional fucking human being.
where did i say that? I don't even own any russhit, nor do I wear surplus stuff out in public.

the point im making is that you don't look nearly as discreet as you think you do, and in something like that you look socially retarded. If you really want to be "greyman" there's very little call to carry around fucking AK mags on your person.

I've been wearing in these new hiking boots. A 15 mile walk and farm work has been very comfortable. Strong stuff.

Would like some Corcoran jump boots at some point though.

I wear my wax shooting jacket on shorter walks. Comfy/warm, waterproof and full of pockets

I normally wear the bates my dept. issued to me.

But if you have the money, get the boots under armor makes. I've had the same pair for two years and they've held up really well.
