Ever since I used lemon oil for to remove cosmoline from my first nugget (someone tipped me saying it was a good gentle solvent and I had a lot of it on hand for some reason) it must have soaked into parts of the wood because it always smells like fresh lemonade whenever I fire and open the bolt.

Add that to the fact it has a deep red wood stain, I've called it Strawberry Lemonade ever since.

My gun's name reminds me of the whole experience of buying my first rifle ever with little prior knowledge of how guns work, walking home with it, learning everything over the next few nights taking it apart and cleaning every single piece before putting it back together, then all leading to the pride I felt going out and shooting it successfully for the first time. I call my gun "Geus", which is a term for the Dutch/Flemish who rebelled against the Spanish.

I feel weird about naming my milsurp, because I'd imagine they probably had some personal name to the soldier who carried them. I feel like I'd be disrespecting that legacy if I gave them my own name. That said, I tracked down the daughter of the guy who was issued my K31 (via the troop tag and a phonebook), and started a little letter correspondence. According to her (as he had passed away some years prior), he said he called his rifle "meine Schatzi", so I've taken to occasionally calling it that. I also call my Gevär m/96 "Carl"(pic related), because it was made in the Carl Gustafs Stads Gevärsfaktori. Yeah, I know it's retarded.

I also tend to name my instruments, because why the fuck not. My trombone is Vera (yeah, THAT'S what actually got named after a gun), and my trumpet is Euterpe.

I've yet to decide on a name for the FAL I'm building, but it will likely end up named after some valkyrie.
