you can tell by my other poor decisions in pic related that I know what I'm talking about

literally a backup shoe knife at best

I've heard people talking about using food safe mineral oil to stop their blades from rusting. I am assuming that it is the same stuff that is used to treat chopping boards and things of that nature?

Where did this pic come from, anyway? There was a Bladeforums thread where a guy's Seb broke like that, and CRK decided it was a flaw in the steel and replaced it immediately. This pic doesn't seem to be from that thread, though, and it's the only record I can find of a Seb breaking under normal use.

Yeah, I've seen it a million times in exactly that context, just always wondered where it came from, and GIS just turns up some 4chan archive threads and a couple of Russian forums I'm afraid to click on.

I actually like the Sebenza and I'm just waiting around for a good used deal to show up. I'm not even in it for the tolerance memes or anything, I just like the simplicity, the blade shape, and the size, and nothing directly comparable is any cheaper than a used Seb.

The sebenza is probably the most overrated knife in existence, under-hardened, and with geometry that belongs on a knife less than half the price.

What part of California? If you're not in the Bay or LA region, you have a decent chance of getting a CC.

If not, I unironically recommend one of those gigantic Cold Steel megafolders. You can carry a folding knife of any size as long as you can clip it inside your pocket (though your local city laws may be different from the state law). So there's really no reason not to go as big as you can, unless you really hate compensating jokes.

It should go without saying that you should get training of course.

People love to trash Lynn Thompson and Cold Steel because of their ridiculous videos and "muh mall ninja" but they are the only company consistently making large (4inch or greater) folders with wave openers and insanely strong locks really geared towards self defense. I rotate the large Espada, Spartan and 6 inch ti lite through my EDC and they're all rock solid.

I plan on dying the handle in some color, like orange, red, pink or blue.

>>
>>32782441
>>32782441

Because it's not a shitty wrap job, it's a good wrap job that looks bad.

It's thicker than any "muh paracord" wrapping that you can make, and paracord tends to slide up and down.

Due to the design of the sheath, no cord can go up past the point where the knife meets the sheath.
>>
>>32782463
ah makes sense now, never understood why you would buy a fixed blade that wasnt ful tang

>>32782451

I have another black handle from one of those training knives.

Also it's an industrial knife. It has almost no value to me whatsoever other than the monetary one. And it's a knife I plan to use on the mountain, so colors are welcome.

I'm just sick of the tacticool faggot shit and thought the sand handle might take some colors

Its for use in mountaineering.

I got the toy training knife version and I love how it feels.

I need a nice solid knife that's light, has a rubber / synthetic wrap around handle (for the cold) and that is good for stabbing and slicing.

The leaf shape of the shrapnel is perfect, and my small faggot hands fit perfectly on the small handle.

I also like the modularity of the sheath.

>>
>>32782917

It lightens it up, it weights like 85 grams or so.

>>32782892

Its comfortable enough as is and for what it is, but there isnt enough purchase for my comfort.

Chris Reeve says it's to tighten up some valve or some shit, which is a retarded thing to do with a knife.
>>
>>32782970
i understand it cuts down on weight but youre talking about less than 3 ounces dude. how much does it compromise the strength of the blade over all by removing the core of the tang?
>>
>>32782983

The hole is what retains the knife in the sheath.

I would have liked Chris Reeve to put some micarta where I put the cord though.

I dont know about the strengh, it doesnt seem to compromise it at all. My guess would be it would snap at the choil regardless of wether it had a hole or not.

I consider it to be tough though, It has saved my life once or twice when I needed to use it as an icepick to climb with my full body+gear weight.

Here is a doubt:

Why in god's name would anyone spend $200 on a grossly underhardened 4mm thick no-handled piece of garbage in s35vn for an outdoor use application?

And why should anyone who did such an absurd thing ever be taken seriously on the topic of knives again?
>>
>>32783076
because he's reinhold messner apparently >>32783032
>>
>>32783076

I dont know, I spent 70€.

Its thickness is good for emergencies, if it is underhardened I dont know. You may be talking about the s30v models, this is s5vn I believe. I never had a problem with it.

The handle is comfortable enough for a skeletonized knife, Bill Harsey is a legend.

I think you're somehow guided by memes and what people think of things instead of forming your own oppinions based on experience or even personal interest. I cant really say you shold take me this way or the other, why in the fuck would I care what you (think) you think? Why are you asking me why should you believe me?

It also cuts very, very well and its light.

Are small knives like the Izula useful innawoods? Have you ever taken a folder innawoods and if so which one and why? Is batoning a meme? Why not take a kukri or hatchet instead of beating a knife?
>>
>>32783476

I love that style of blade design. it is aggressive.
>>
>>32783511
>are small knives like the izula useful innawoods
yes, food prep, kindling, dressing game, etc
>have you ever taken a folder innawoods
many people do, they're easier to store and transport rather than large fixed blades and are better suited to the finer campsite tasks
>is batoning a meme
yes and no. i've avoided batoning on trips or never found the need but its all preference really. it could be needed in a certain circumstance
>why not take a kukri or hatchet instead
weight/space or other reasons. some tools are more suited for chopping or batoning, kukris kinda get this reputation that they're the best fixed blade for it but theyre more jack of all trades, master of none type tools.

>>32783511

Yes they are, but ESEE knives rust like motherfuckers.

Nowadays the quality of even shitty products is pretty high compared to the past. Folders are also good.

I use and always carry a multitool that has a folding knife, but I dont take folding knives by themselves

Batoning is not a meme but it's not what you see on YouTube either, which is a meme.

Hatchets and kukris are heavy and can ruin your trip if you end up not needing it. You can split small logs and pieces with a sturdy knife just fine.
>>
>>32782917
>>32782970
>>32782983
>>32782998

strength is not a problem here. I'm more worried about the retarded finger grooves, that don't work except in one particular grip, and when you are working with a knife, the more ways you can grip it, the better.
Hint, check out the stubby handle on a mora eldris, or any other similar knife (which mostly means a bunch od ~2.5 inch scandi knives, I know Roselli makes some like that).

And you'd be surprised how touchy ultralight backpackers can get about having a knife under 3 ounces.
>>
>>32783137

>It's thickness is good for emergencies

No. A 2mm spine Mora has no trouble surviving being batoned. Furthermore, since strength rises geometrically with steel thickness any sort of failure is exponentially more likely to begin at the apex and propagate upwards into the primary grind rather than the reverse.

>Underhardened

Knifecenter lists the hardness on the s35vn model as 55-57 HRC which is grossly underhardened for that steel, and for any high carbide stainless steel in general.

S35vn is also a wildly inappropriate stele choice for an outdoor application as it is much more brittle than is desirable, while the wear resistance it has is mostly wasted in that type of application.

Finally, a skeletonized handle self evidently doesn't compare to a proper handle for ergonomics.

The Talwar looks more like the Bedlam than the Espada or the Night Force. Cold Steel said so themselves when they tested the Bedlam vs the Talwar.

Talwar won overall in testing, btw.
>>
>>32783692

The finger grooves work well for slicing.

I agree a simpler handle would be more versatile, but when I used it for an actual emergency I had gloves on and didnt give a fuck about lack of comfort.

>>32783900

A thin mora is bigger and less modular, longer also, inappropriate for stabbing ice and snow. It would also be damaged.

I never had harness problems with my knife, the edge seems durable enough for what I use it.

The knife is great for specific needs, many here seem to be talking out of their asses or out of memes.

They tie now and then. Even if a knife loses, it doesn't make it horrible. So long as it can hold 220lbs of hanging weight, the knife is plenty competent.

As far as hanging weight test went, the Bedlam and Talwar were tied. The Bedlam failed during the 30lb strike test. The axis lock disengaged.

I only own two CS knives by the way. Not that big a fan, just throwing out facts. If I thought knives that can't pass CS tests were stupidm and not worth the money, I wouldn't own these ZT's.

>>
>>32784123

The lock is truly the strongest there is

But the steel is mediocre for what's out there.

Most folders compare poorly in terms of blade strength ( force over the steel, not the lock)

i love it
its big and stabby and scares my coworker sometimes but the actuion is incredible especially after i took mine apart and lubed everything ( also after it broke in)
i think its impossible to not have it open with the flipper once broken in and lubed up
it also drops shut even when tilted at an angle
its not that beefy thickness wise but it fills the hand and is certainly a large knife ( though carrys small for its length )

I love Pelican cases, literally the best way to store knives.
>>
>>32784719
id love to buy one but hesitant about spending a bunch on one of hem
>>
>>32784730

I bought the 1300 off amazon for $45 new. It can probably hold around 30 knives that are no greater than 6 inches in length. My bedlam 6800 is like 5.8 inches long and fits perfectly.
>>
>>32784769
>e
it came with foam etc?
>>
>>32784773

yeah it comes with pick and pluck foam, you can cut and pick out the exact length you want. It is a pain in the ass but it doesn't scratch the knives, the pelican case keeps moisture out so they don't rust, and you can lock the case with a padlock.
>>
>>32781130
I love Chris reeve's pompous attitude of large folding knives
>if you want a folding knife bigger than 3.5 inches just buy a fixed blade

Bitch, if I could buy a 5 inch blade sebenza I totally would. Also cold steel btfo'd crk
>>
>>32784788

I just used my emissary to cut some holes. You could just use your hands to pick out the pieces you want. There are thousands of little squares that can be cut out and altered to any way you want.

I would get the 1300 if you have like 20-30 knives or the 1450 if you have >30. I wouldn't buy a case with a depth of less than 6 inches, as 6 inches will fit almost every folding knife including automatics.

Not my case but this is a good visualization. You can pluck the squares to the size and shape of the knife and keep removing them till the knife goes in. It is a pain in the ass but the knifes don't move and the material won't scratch them. I store my knives vertically but some do it horizontal for some reason.

They're actually my favorite brand. People hate them because they grew up a fudd and either worship Chris Reeve or Benchmade and anything different is heresy to them. People also don't like the spyderhole because it adds a lot of width to the knife's profile, making for more difficult carry in some situations, but if people were to wear something other than jeans and suits 24/7 that wouldn't be much of an issue. Spyderco also does a lot of interesting or exotic designs and people get fixated on these and then hate the entire company for that particular knife. Really people that hate Spyderco are the same reason we have anti-vaxxers, liberals, and feminists.

I'm a fan of the manix 2 and paramilitary 2. Haven't tried the military or para 3, but the former comes in some neat steels that I'll surely end up buying and the latter will come in sprint runs that I won't be able to say no to.

Some of their other designs I appreciate but don't really feel like I need to allocate money to buy them. Especially their framelocks, since spyderco isn't a fan of using steel inserts.

Literally the only non-faggot in this thread.

I've had a Buck 119 for years, and the only time I've ever wanted or needed to use something else was when I got a 110 for church.
>>
>>32791131
>People also don't like the spyderhole because it adds a lot of width to the knife's profile

I never seen this issue in comparison to Benchmade. If anything their knives are ridiculously thinner. I do, however, hate their choice of handle materials for the lower tier knives. Don't care for the frn and I have someone working on handles to replace it on my delica.
>>
>>32791987
Cause that's how it's made. I could suggest to the maker to possibly do a drop point without the recurve. Doesn't matter much to me since I can sharpen it.

Sweet, I was just hoping to find a thread like this.
/k/, I live in NC and currently open-carry a large fixed blade knife. It works great for around-the-farm type work. However, I'm looking at carrying something smaller for when I go into the city, as carrying a fixed blade knife here can get some funny looks (despite the fact it's perfectly legal).

What are /k/'s thoughts on Karambits for EDC? or is that meme tier?
>>
>>32792075
For a lot of us it's memetier, but for you it's perfectly acceptable for farm work. I wouldn't carry one into town though.
>>

Also got one of my knives back from getting the sheath repaired. The original sheath was kind of thin so the blade cut right through it at the center rivet.

Asked the maker and he told me send it in and I requested for a dangler style. Got it back, free of charge, much thicker sheath, strap built for a dangler, and even added a normal belt carry strap. Great job for Norske Knives.
>>
>>32792091

What's a decent folder for EDC then? It'll be used mostly for work, but also self defense. Should I just carry one for both? I don't mind my current knife, and honestly it's fine for what I do, so I don't mind keeping it.

is there a good balance between the two currently being offered by someone?
>>
>>32792130
Refer to these about the self defense
>>32791896
>>32781395

Just better in the long run to have a firearm.

As for a work knife depends on what you use it for.

A karambit, from my understanding, is great for cutting stalks in farmlands. It would also be well suited for cutting twine. On the flip side, if you go by our resident poster SOGfag, it can be used defensively with proper training to cut ligaments and probably tendons. This is a legal no-no so refer back to the beginning of this post.
>>
>>32792175

Thank you very much. I've got a few pistols, and CC totally isn't out of the question. Open carry is totally an option, but that wouldn't solve my problem of the "weird looks".

I appreciate the sincere reply.
>>
>>32792195
You're welcome. Still doesn't answer your question for an EDC though. So what kind of tasks on the farmland and around the house you plan on using it for?
>>
>>32792204

Currently it would be regulated to (mostly) cutting whatever came in my path. Twine, stalks, kudzu, you name it. My current knife is (go ahead and laugh) a mossy oak bowie I picked up from walmart. Sure, it's a joke, but it's got enough heft for cutting down kudzu without being giganta-huge. Likewise, on the rare occasion I need to cut something bigger (read: small branches) it's a solid piece, so I don't have to worry about the blade breaking.

Basically, I need something sturdy that can hold an edge, and can take a beating. I'm willing to throw some money at it as well, but I'd like to keep it 150 or under if possible. I don't mind a bigger knife, I just don't want something HUGE.

I'm this guy, so I like my bigger knives too. For what you need I would suggest any high apex stability steels. These would generally be your 10xx, 52100, aeb-l, think 3v and o1. I would use this knife in conjunction with your burly knife. Something simple like pic related.

Do you know how to sharpen a knife?
>>
>>32792282
A field scalpel made by Jason Lyons. He goes by blackmetal on bladeforums. He has some camp recurves on there right now.

Or if you want you can look at getting a pocket knife. I'm looking at getting a Smith and Sons mudbug. They're going on sale again 1.31.17 no earlier than 11am CST for $95 or $125 with a sensible belt sheath. Pic related. Good for basic stuff you need done in conjunction with that Bowie of yours.
>>
>>32792336
Dude, thank you. I know a bit about guns, but I know jack shit about the knife market.
>>
>>32792342
There's options out there. Just need to know where to look. Good place to start is bladehq, knife center, knifeworks, and bladeforums. There's guys who come here that know more than I do. Maybe something in sxxv would be better for you to cut twine only. I'm bias toward high edge stability knives over wear resistant knives though and if you know how to sharpen then they will work for you.

The karambit is pretty edgy mall ninja shit. It has its use for cutting stalk plants like corn, sugarcane, wheat, etc. If you do a lot of that then a karambit would be great but it's not as good as a straight blade for literally any other cutting task. If you really need to have one just for fun, get the Spyderco KaraHawk and then get a nice fixed blade for everything else. Fixed karambits take up a lot of unnecessary space so a folder could help, so you can carry both at the same time

I just bought two of them. One is about 1/4 inch shorter than the other and it seems like the folded handle was slightly wider on one. Pretty awkward knives. I'd go for the smaller version than the 3.5 because you can't really get any kind of grip on it and a smaller blade would feel easier to use.

They're very good quality knives. Great for utility tasks (which is the majority of what you'll be doing with it, let's be honest), but it will also be perfectly adequate for defending yourself. The sheath in your picture is a bit iffy, though. The nylon on mine ripped when I was out bushcrafting and took a spill down a slope. If you get one, get a custom kydex sheath. Great knife, though.
>>
>>32796704
I also use frog lube (liquid in my case). I doubt it soaks into the metal as it's supposed to mostly be coconut oil but whatever else they put in it is magic. It leaves this wonderful layer on the metal that doesn't attract lint or dirt. Also works great for shaving. I tried shaving with nothing but frog lube which kind of hurt but I didn't cut myself and got a really close shave to boot. Works wonderfully when I use it as a preshave oil and lather shaving cream on top of it. My glocks love it.

I'd avoid powered machines if you don't know how to sharpen. It'd be very easy to accidentally ruin your knife by overheating it or removing too much metal.

"Stainless 440" means you probably have a no-name garbage Pakistan or China knife that isn't very good to begin with, though now you have a knife you can safely ruin when practicing sharpening in case you fuck up.

There are basically two options:freehand (stones, strops, etc.) and guided systems (Sharpmaker, Edge Pro, etc.).

Freehanding is learning a skill, which will take a lot of time and practice. However, once you get good, sharpening takes little time at all and you can sharpen pretty much any cutting implement with nearly anything abrasive enough to cut whatever you're sharpening.

Guided systems are meant to take the human factor out of it and be easy to learn for most people. This will mean it'll be easier and faster in the short term and depending on the system, you can be more precise than even the best hand sharpeners out there. However, you'll have less transferable skills (meaning you won't be as good without the system) and it won't be as fast as a competent hand sharpener.

There's also powered options like belt sanders and grinders, but they're a bad idea if you don't know what you're doing, as already mentioned.

So basically it comes down to whether you want to learn a skill that'll be more worthwhile in the long term or a system that'll get the job done without as much hassle in the short term.

im using freehanded stones i guess. i have 2 japanese water stones, a eze lap diamond stone, and an arkansas stone and every single one i try sharpneing with leaves me with a duller knife than i started with. sometimes i will get a tiny bit of bite on the edge but i always fucking lose it when sharpening again. i dont know how long to sharpen or how hard to push, maybe i dont push hard enough? i was trying to let gravity and the knife do most of the work, maybe it takes more muscle?
>>
>>32801903
i watched youtube videos on sharpening and i tried to copy that shit, these guys get a razor sharp knife in like 20 strokes on a japanese stone, i sit there doing it for like 10 minutes and cant even cut paper on the entire blade
>>
>>32801706
the answer is git gud. to put a serviceable edge on a knife you just need a lansky kit or a set of Arkansas stones: washita-black hard arkansas if you can manage it.

dans whetstone company will do you right. always use water or mineral oil on a stone and keep it as such. keep a constant angle and make every pass as if you are trying to cut a sliver off the top of the stone. 20-30 passes per side depending on how hard the steel is.

>>32801721
most likely you've got garbage knives anything that isn't boutique or a buck/kershaw/crkt/spiderco/benchmade is most likely crap steel that won't take a real edge for longer than a hot second.
>>
>>32801957

They're by far the most popular knife to privately buy in the Swedish military and for good reason. They are well made and very durable. Their different knives fill up different niches. I use an F1 though, seeing as how I usually have a hatchet with me when I'm in the woods with the military.

Before you give up on freehanding try this: Get some cheap knives, a Norton India IB8 combination coarse/fine oilstone, and watch this video and practice what it shows until you can reliably reproduce the results shown:

https://youtu.be/cWU_qTp3DLM

If you really cannot get the hang of that then listen to >>32801832
>>
>>32801721

It depends on what you mean by hard to sharpen. If you mean in terms of grindability, I.E. taking more time but no more skill, then basically the more wear resistance the steel has the longer it will take to sharpen.

If you mean in terms of SKILL then I would say the hardest steels to sharpen are relatively soft (54-58 HRC) stainless steels like AUS-8, VG-10, 154CM, 440C, when they are run at low hardness. Those types of steels at low hardness have a tendency of forming a large, floppy burr that is difficult to remove and can be very frustrating to novice sharpeners.
>>
>>32801918

That's because they are sharpening a knife that had already been re-profiled to the angle they are using, the knives are much less dull when they are starting to sharpen, and they have much better muscle memory and thus there is much less variation in the angle they hold.

A beginner sharpener learning to freehand should be using a stone in the ~325 grit range like an India F or a DMT C which cuts fast enough to cut in a new edge bevel in a reasonable time frame.

Horrible at story telling.

Pretty recently I locked up an inmate for three shanks. Initially I found a security bit in his coffee cup, think a T20. Questioned him and he stated he found it. Go back to search and I noticed the cell light was loose. T20 fit.

I asked him what was hidden and he simply told me whatever was up there belonged to him. Opened it up and pulled out 3 shanks. One was pretty sturdy.

Asked him what's the deal and he told me in honesty that the nice one was his. The rest he found in his cell and kept for insurance.
>>
>>32802670
As for weapon making in prison. Most of the icepicks come from fridge racks or AC unit gratings. Knife style shanks normally come from windows. The better shanks come from an inmate breaking down an old footlocker with another footlocker. Best one I seen had to have come from HVAC since it was so thick. They had a clip point and serrations on the back. Still needed work since it was about 1/4 thick. Also tanto point is king here.
>>
>>32801903
according to my experience, youre doing one of 2 things

>youre not hitting the edge precisely
or
>the stone you are using is too fine

youd be surprised how fuckin wrong you are at your edge. you may be hitting the edge, but the very end of it may be getting missed, which is causing your cutting edge to not get any better
and in the other case
this is another insanely common problem i see a lot. people just think they can hustle on down to sharp knife city (east of flavor town) using nothing but a medium arkansas stone. the thing people miss is that when a knife is dull, you need a coarse stone to match it, you cant just polish it over and over until the bad ol knicks or dull marks go away. you cant start off at 600 or 700 grit is what im saying. i recommend you get your ass a nice little pocket norton stone (or bench stone for people with arthritis or other invalids) at about 200 - 300 grit, and then work your way up

There's something called an angle guide, kinds that clip onto your knife and others that are just ramps. When I was new I made a wedge that looked like a doorstop. Didn't use it too much, but it sounds like that's where your problem is. Also Idk if anyone here has said it yet, but do the sharpy trick as well.

Draw along the edge with your sharpy, on the full width of the bevel so you can see what metal is getting removed .
If the sharp only goes away further back away from the apex, your angle is too shallow, or low.
If only the apex is moved, your angle is high, though, it's still hitting the apex, so you can still make it sharp like this.
Best to learn to match the bevel entirely though

ok boys, i know i can come to you all for expert advice

im getting a 550 griptillian with the finger hole and i cant decide between plain edge or serrated. ive been going plain edge forever now. how useful are serrations really?
>>
>>32807858
>im getting a 550 griptillian with the finger hole
why

>how useful are serrations really?
Depends on what you're cutting. They're not as versatile as a plain edge, but excel at cutting things that would dull a plain edge quickly. The difficulty in sharpening them is overrated. There's a learning curve, but it's not that hard.
>>
>>32807858
>getting a grip with a spydiehole
Just get a regular grip or a spyderco
>>
>>32808317

unzip this dick fuckboys, its what i want. if i wanted a big log of shit with a thumbtack stuck to the end of it, thats what i want. i just want to know if i want that thumbtack to have serrations or not.

what i mean to ask, is that will the serrated edge REALLY effect my plain edge use with it? how much will my regular plain edge use be affected?
>>

>what i mean to ask, is that will the serrated edge REALLY effect my plain edge use with it? how much will my regular plain edge use be affected?
What does that even mean? You can use a serrated edge and you can use a plain edge.

>>32808532
>also dig the flatter blade geometry on the sheepsfoot design btw
But the sheepsfoot is hollow ground and it's ground the same height as the other ones.
>>
>>32801832

>However, you'll have less transferable skills (meaning you won't be as good without the system)

Literally what the fuck are you even talking about?

>and it won't be as fast as a competent hand sharpener

You'll also be setting random and oftentimes mismatched bevel angels that will require someone with a guided system time to fix for you.

Precision beats guesswork every time.
>>
>>32805710

If you're going to get a serrated blade, get full serrations. Combo edges are a terrible compromise.
>>
>>32807858
Dont listen to these fags, get the grip you want with the hole, but dont get serrations, only plainedge almost always because for serrations to actually be beneficial you need to be cutting alot of rope, plainedge will always be useful however

>>
>>32806704
Overpriced. Sure they're quality but you could cut about half the price off and it'd still be higher than it should be. General rule of thumb for all of his knives. The fixed blades get a particularly bad rep even amongst CRK fans.
>>
>>32805710
They have a very niche use. If you're going to buy a serrated knife, don't get a folder and get the full serrated edge, combo edges just don't work.

>>
>>32816023
They have sprint runs so you might see a particular color paired up with a steel. Kind of sucks since they have such a large variety of colors they use, but I guess it cuts down on counterfeiting if the Chinese don't know what colors they plan to use next.
>>
What I don't understand about the selling knives market is why people assume others will buy their common knives for a little less than store price just because it's unused. If it's a limited run is one thing, but I may see like a standard paramilitary 2 that's been unused so the seller may charge $10 less. Hell seen some with broken scales and scratched up blades and still charge a premium.

THIS IS INCLUDING MODERN SYNTHETICS, like rubber or Neoprene.
>>
>>32817445
*Assuming non-folding blades
>>
>>32817411

It is because they want to get their money back and the knives even fucked up still have value for their parts. Plus depending on the brand some companies will repair the knives for very little or free.

I guarantee you if spyderco and benchmade had no "minimum advertised price" they forced their sellers to use prices would plummet pretty rapidly on all their knives as people competed. But the minimum pricing forces their knives to hover around a certain level, which is why the Paramilitary 2 starts off at a ridiculous $220+ on spydercos website.
>>
>>32813642
Why exactly whats the problem with it?
>>
>>32816023

The m390 pm2 is a bentobox exclusive and the last run was years ago. If you want one just get it because there's only one pm2 sprint run announced for this year so far.

Compared to other pm2 exclusives and sprints that are now exclusively secondary market, that price is almost sort of reasonable.
>>
>>32812268

I don't really have an outstanding favorite, but I like collecting a little bit of everything. I've got a hardon for spyderco bringing maxamet into their lineup though. Might make up for the fact that I don't want to pay for a second hand pm2 in m4.

If you're getting a grip, get a ritter while they're still available at knifeworks.

Not sure I could recommend the base s30v pm2 over a m390 ritter grip, but the pm2 is something everyone who's into knives has to at least try at some point. If I could go back in time and swap a bunch of other blade purchases with pm2 sprints I'd do it in a heartbeat.

So, The Standard.
The pm2 has "better" steel(s30v vs 154cm), "better" handle material(G10 vs Noryl GTX).

Both knives have great handle Ergo's. So in the end they both "better"
Both have great locking mechanisms
Hope this helps.
