Steel case is generally within 3 ¢pr of the mainstay calibers 5.45, 5.56, and 7.62x39.
>>
>>32776962
Fuddlore, it's just fine out to 200 metres.

As a decrepit old poacher of a Korea vet once told me "Men who claimed that the chink winter coats would stop .30 carbine were men who were missing chinks in their winter coats."

I've shot mine at soaked and frozen packing blankets in extreme cold (-28°f), it'll go through more than is realistic to believe people would wear, and still hit a steel plate hard enough to shatter the bullet.
>>
>>32777050
would still trust my thuddy ought six more than a thuddy cahrbeen
>>
>>32776962
I dunno. I'd bet they've killed plenty of all of those. Getting shot by a .30 Carbine probably isn't too different from getting shot with a .357 Magnum.

Nope, i bought one and ive shot a few. In WWII they were cool as shit but now. Fuck'em. The cartridge is weak and the rifle is long. If the catridge was in a SBR form it would be cool but otherwise its pointless for anything other than historical significance. Coming from someone who owns a carbine and has shot quite a few.

>pic related
my universal
>inb4
it sucks
the only people who say that are people who own GI carbines so they think anything other than GI sucks or they are people who have never owned or shot either.

-28°F real air temp is colder than it actually got in the "Frozen Chosin"

It's colder than 90%+ of humankind ever experiences out doors.

It's not the coldest I've ever gone shooting, but it is cold enough I figure it was a good enough test.

Most issue ammo in WWII was steel cased. Accepting steel cased ammo was one of the requirements in the request fire submission that created the M1 carbine.

Perhaps stop being a pussy.
>>
I want so badly to love it, it's aesthetic as fuck and I love WW2 us surplus stuff.

But I haven't fired one, and the one time I held one it had such a retardedly short length of pull and I'm not even super tall.

I still will probably buyou one some day but not before I get quite a few higher priority items first.

You're just a cuckstamp away from your ideal M1.
>>
>>32777439
Why do you think the steel casing has anything to do with the projectile?
>>
>>32777439
>that shitty bimetal jacket kills the barrel faster senpai
You'll shoot 10x as much of the cost of the gun before the barrel has any noticeable wear
>>
>>32777482
he listens to the retards behind the gun counter trying to sell him more expensive ammo.
>>
>>32777439
When the barrel dies, it'll get replaced. They aren't that expensive.

In the mean time, I can buy a thousand rounds of ball that perform better than the 32¢pr Filipino ball for $230.

The savings more than pays for a nice barrel and a trip to the smith to get it done right.
>>
>>32776049

>>
>>32777525
They're still in production. I couldn't tell you who makes them though.
>>
>>32777413
no its weak, compared to a 5.56 or any other car ride you could get in a similar sized gun.

>>32777467
i do like those though. But i dont think i will ever get into the tax stamp game.
>>
>>32777544

>>
It's aesthetically one of my favorite guns, I want to own one some day. I've heard they can be a tad unreliable though
>>
>>32777594
South Korean New-Old stock 30 mags are still cheap and pretty high quality
>>
>>32777582
it was not meant for long distance, its meant for 300 yards or less, in its own range its powerful as fuck, like an AK really
>>
>>32777625
It's really not a hugely powerful cartridge and is massively outclassed in joules by both 7.62x39 and 5.56x45
>>
>>32777683
its more powerful than, 357
, 7.62x39 and 5.56 was not around then
>>
>>32777778
This is true. 7.92 Kurtz was around then though.
>>
>>32776049
Yes and no. the design tends to be relatively antiquated and somewhat unreliable. Doesn't really do anything better than a modern rifle would and costs an arm/leg for an original. Chambering is meh. Does have a certain je ne sais quoi though if WW2 guns are your sort of thing.
>>

That mean you would be carrying around a longer and heavier weapon. Good luck getting it out of your Sherman or Halftrack when you get hit.
>>
>>32777517
What is historical significance? What is owning multiple rifles? What is fun guns?
>>
>>32777843

big bowl of bullshit anyone has ever had the audacity to serve.

>>32777683
also we are talking in todays world this isnt /k/ in year 1945.

this is 2017 bitch.
>>
>>32778335
Its pretty true for something coming out of a rifle length barrel and its only performing a little better than 357 magnum out of a revolver.

30 carbine clocks around 950ft/lbs of energy while 357 mag can clock between 6-850ft/lbs.

its pretty fuggin weak man.
>>
>>32779600
You're definitely not comparing similarly weighted bullets with those numbers.
Out of an 18 inch barrel, 110 gr .30 Carbine is 1,377 J.
Out of an 18 inch barrel, 110 gr .357 Mag is 978 J.
>>
>>32779811
im not measuring joules im measuring ft/lbs

also the bullet weight was 125 for the .357 mag. Just google it.
>>
>>32778734
>>32778860
My dad was gonna buy me one for my 18th birthday. Went to the Cabelas in PA and they told us the bad news...

One day, we'll be free.
>>
>>32777517
Why can't guns just be fun to shoot? Not everything has to be tactical war machines that do everything right
>>
>>32779923
Doesn't really matter if its Joules or Ft/lbs
Thats still a significant increase in .30 Carbine
110 Gr .30 Carbine: 978 ft/lbs
110 Gr .357 Magnum: 721 ft/lbs
I did google it, googled .357 of out an 18" barrel and found these numbers for a 110 gr bullet. Wikipedia has 110 gr .30 Carbine listed on the page for an 18" barrel
>>
>>32779552
