RCIR's are pretty damn awesome. I keep a small stockpile of them for innawoods purposes, plus a spare in the glove box of my car in case I break down somewhere remote. It's a shame that they're such a bitch to get in the US. They're probably tied with Germany for the highest quality field rations.

They're not really MRE's since you need to add boiling water but I bought a years supply of storable food from the infowars store about half a year ago.

For me it's the K ration, the most nutritious meal.

How much do you guys spend on MREs if you buy them? I went to a gunshop the other day and picked out a few for $7 each, which felt like a good deal. They're about 1000-1200 calories, and $7 is about what the 2 person freeze dried meals goes for at camping stores. MREs are heavier and less portable, but don't require any clean water and have much more variety. I'm pretty sure as I was leaving the owner of the shop said I should check in every once in awhile, as they occasionally have cases for $35. I feel like I might have misheard him though, because a case has 12 MREs in it, right?

They're old, but I thought they were good for 5 years or so. I got 2 rib shaped pork patties, a beef taco, and an asian beef. I also bought an MRE on amazon just days before (for $12, felt a bit ripped off) and luckily they sent me beef patty (with pepper jack or whatever).

Be warned anon, I always grabbed the vegetarian MRE's because the packaged meat patties were cat/dog food levels of bad, especially unheated. The meat in the pasta ones is OK because it's basically chef boyardee. Cheese tortellini was the best hands down, omelette was the worst.

Confirmed cheese tortellini is best.

Worst by far is Pork Sausage in Cream Sauce. Especially cold. I remember in BCT we would always try and avoid that one. It did have a tasty granola and blueberry mix though.

I think the idea was put in a little something to address constipation, not rupture your colon. Personally, I think it's probably true of older MRE's that lived on in stories, but I personally never had problems with the gum.
