Even if it failed pretty much - it was a great example of the "old" H&K.
The times were they were lying on the top shelf of 'weapon development'.

They had the machines, the technical knowlege and the motivation to create something new and awesome. They had the money, the creativity and a little bit of Fuck-why-not.
A lot of other companys were just stupid fucks banging rocks together while H&K - with just a few other - were building history and future.

Today they are joke. A really sad joke. No inovation, nothing new, nothing important - they just evolved into a unimportant, grey company copying proven concepts.

>Hurr durr, check out our totally-not-a-M249 for the Bundeswehr (MG4)
>we also totally developed this awesome inovative Rifle, because we are so smart! (HK416)

Im just waiting for them to 'invent' the 1911 as final iteration of their state-of-the-art-weapon-develpoment from today.

Yes, i'm really mad. Thanks for reading.

Hk416 and MP7 are widely used though.
>Im just waiting for them to 'invent' the 1911 as final iteration of their state-of-the-art-weapon-develpoment from today.
They already made the USP and HK45?

Im just afraid of pic related.

Sorry for derailing the topic - G11 was awesome just because everyone knows caseless ammo ist super-cool-sci-fi-shit and H&K at least tried to make it real.
>>
>>32759735
lol HK will keep pushing forward, they will be making more striker pistols and not going back.

Even their AK is piston and not DI.
>>
>>32759698
Too true, though, most companies who were known for innovation have now simply stuck to what makes them money and that isn't just limited to firearms.

>>32759735
>Sorry for derailing the topic
No, no, that's fine, I just didn't know this was going to turn into a H&K hate thread. XD

technology that would make caseless ammo viable would aslo make it obsolete.

It's not space magic, inroads have been made with 3D printing and design. You could make a fitment and CAD build fairly fast, custom ordered today.
At Mercedes Benz/Freightliner back in the late 90s, you can have a semi truck built with several different frames, cabs, drive trains, and then just drop in the appropriate engine/electrical harness.

Back to 'space' guns:
Imagine if the outside case could allow rails, movement of the trigger group for ergonomics?
Imagine if you could 3D print all but the metal parts that handle the pressure of firing?
Imagine if you could make your own custom hand grip to your liking?
Imagine if you could make the cheek rest location match where you use it?
Imagine you could make the butt stock adjustable in several directions.
Don't like the caliber? Swap out the barrel and the magazine to what you want to shoot.
I still think the clock like mechanism that loads and feeds the beast is a bit over complicated.
Add electronic trigger and electric firing and it would be god tier for removing monkey fingers affecting accuracy even more so.

Damn right, when the secret chemical method of compounding caseless propellant into cubes or cylinders around a bullet is revealed it will be game on.
Then the AR builders with their electric firing or gas compression igniters will be using the tried and tested platform that they know.
The Daisy Heddon ammo is nothing more than cordite with some plasticizer from the 1950s added to make it stick to the lowly .22LR bullet.
It can't be rocket science since in the 1950s they had about 30 different kinds of plastic to fiddle with.
Cordite is nothing more than nitrocellulose with a bit of petroleum jelly and a stabilizer. Instead bind it with some low temp polymer that is consumed in the firing, but is just hard enough to handle the magazine and travel to the chamber.
If it was good enough for the 8mm Lebel and the British .303 round, why not modern ammo?
I doubt one could get super fast pistol powder burn rates, but then it's how it is grained into pieces.

This is a tinkerer's wet dream. It's absolute job security for repair men. The idiots can't stop putting their monkey fingers in there where it doesn't belong.
Did they forget to put a grease lube nipple on the outside so you don't have to take that apart?
I see at least 5 springs, several custom clips to lose and can't get from the hardware store. Let alone when SHTF, and the parts are unavailable. Can you imagine making these parts by hand or replicating without a CNC?
Let me guess, the pins are not metric sized either.

The way I see it, the gun represents the last firearms development golden age, back when people were still doing a bunch of crazy experiments to try to be the head of the pack and throwing new and interesting rifles and pistols into the market at breakneck speeds.

Unlike now-a-days where absolutely every new pistol on the market is an attempted glock killer and everything in the rifle market is just another AR-15 accessory.

>In this episode of: Posters on this board so autistic that you have to spell out everything.

Most of the problem is not with the round, but with gun desinged to use it. To make a caseless assualt rifle you have to make it a insane clockwork. Everything has to be extreamly tight just to achieve effect of gas seal. Even then, you ran into heat menagment problems.

Suprisingly case is actually pretty useful thing. And while modern cases are still pretty heavy, future cases will be made out of lightweight polimers.

All those thing that caseless rifle has to do, cased ammo does for free.
