The PTRD is your only valid option, regardless of what game you're hunting.

It's best suited for small game, though.
>>
>>32757384

Well, I don't know much about the ground in michigan. .308 or .30-06 likely won't do you wrong. Even 30-30 should do fine.
>>
>>32757398
um... isn't that an anti tank rifle?

Well there is a lot to consider. I suggest fining and join a local shooting club, and asking for advice. Find out what works for you before you go. But beware fudd lore. Most calibers between .223 and .30-06 work well for deer.
>>
>>32758538
Also what kind of action do you prefer.?Bolt-action, lever-action, semi-automatic, single-shot?
>>
>>32757384
.243 or .270 can do both decently.
>>
>>32757280
If you don't want to spend too much dough but want a good weapon for deer hunting and for fixes, get a Savage 11 Trophy Hunter combo. Comes with a Nikon Prostaff scope (which is high tier on the entry level price range category). As for caliber, go with either .243 or 6.5 Creedmoor. Both are great deer guns (especially the Creedmoor) and you can easily find light loads for both for shooting pelted animals.

In all honesty though, just get a .22 pistol for shooting foxes.

You only need an AR-15
>>
>>32758544
bolt-action, but my main problem is im a lefty. I haven't learned to shoot with my right hand yet but im starting to
>>
>>32758585
As a left fellow lefty I can tell you that shooting a bolt gun left handed isn't that much of a problem when you get used to it. If you're using irons you just reach over and if you're not you bring your right hand back and either hold the gun up or let it rest on the shooting sticks you brought along.

Or you can hunt around your local gun and pawn shops and see if you can find something left handed, or even buy a left handed gun. I personally have a Tikka T3 that's left handed in .270 and it's still more accurate than I am - 1 moa out of the box and all that. But that may be a little pricy for an entry level gun.

What really matters is where your dominant eye is. You should shoot using that eye above all else.

If you want to take foxes and deer then you probably want a .22 or .223 and something in a nice durr caliber like .243 or .270, respectively. .308 or .30-06 will do the job as well, really as >>32758538 said pretty much anything between those will work. Caliber doesn't matter as much as range time, plan to spend plenty on ammo so you can get some range time and get good.

The only caveat to this is that some places ban hunting of deer with certain calibers, so you will want to look into your local regulations to see what you can and can't get away with. This is why it's really really a good thing to have a buddy who is already a hunter if you want to get into hunting, he can tell you all this stuff off the top of his head instead of you having to go dig it up yourself.

You needz youz a big ol' shoota! None of doze 'umie las thingies! Somfin 'atl put a Hurtin' on sumfin. Some STOPPIN' POWAH!
>>
>>32757384

I recommend a .308 for deer because it's quite powerful and practice ammo is very cheap compared to other centerfires. If you ever wanted to travel for a hunt, it would be an appropriate caliber for everything in North America except brown bear or polar bear.

If you'd like to hunt foxes and keep the pelts, you're not going to be using the same rifle that you use for a deer. I recommend a .17 HMR.

>>32758552

These will liquify a fox.
>>
>>32757280
Savage axis, ruger American, Remington 783, Mossberg patriot. Any of the chamberings these come in will work for deer. You won't be able to hunt a fox with your deer gun.
All other replies are unnecessary.
