As someone who has gone through the process, you will likely fail. You are eligible after 3 years of sobriety for marijuana, but you know that's awhile. That being said, if someone were to say do something unethical and lie about drug usage it wouldn't be the first time it's been heard. Of course if that same someone were to be caught they would suffer the consequences.

I'm still waiting to receive mine at current job. Not sure what you'd be going for, but almost everyone at my work gets secret. I haven't heard of anyone getting polygraphed, probably not something to chance though.

Took acid twice 3+ years ago, lots of pot, also 3+ years ago. Partied naked a few times, but no photos (even if there were, post 'em, Idgaf).

Biggest concern is all the bdsm porn I've watched over the years that the nsa probably has logged on me. Also snarky, cynical social media posts, but nothing outright anti-govt (at least not since i was 16 10 years ago anyway)

I'm in great shape, swim distance, and kinda want to test my mettle at BUDS. Read the books on it, still sounds good. But would I not be able to get the req'd security clearance?

Well I keep reading about drug usage and security clearances and all the websites tell me that I should have a shot at mitigating my drug use with a certain amount of time of sobriety and being honest up front. So I get a feeling of hope and then I tell myself that those websites are just bullshit and I'll be rejected immediately. So that's why I'm here, I wanted to get the opinions of people who have had security clearances or clearing people for them. You think I have a shot if I stay on the straight and narrow for 3 years?

Security clearances aren't hard to get, it's just most people fuck up and lie about it. Don't. Lie. That's it. As long as you weren't an outright druggy and are financially sound and no wacked out criminal record you'll likely be fine.

Work experience is irrelevant unless your previous work also required a clearance.
The thing with a clearance is trust, and imo it's easy enough to gain. As long as you don't have a dirty background and don't try to hide anything then you're in. If you fuck it up though the penalty can be pretty severe. It's honestly no pressure if you're not retarded and actually like the US.
