Two examples come to mind.
In the very early 90's there were AR airsoft that were imported that were dimensinally identical. The had the FCG epoxied in place and were readily convertable to a title II weapon.
In the early 00's a large number of GP25s were imported for airsoft. These were actual units improperly demilled and converted to airsoft use. Agian a simple matter to reactivate even if ammo is hard to find.
