I really like lever actions and want to get one, objectively what is the best caliber for them? I think I read in a thread before that 30-06 is a dumb fudd round.

>>32742396
I mean 30-30, sorry.
>>
45-70
>>
I want to get a .357 magnum lever action. Am I retarded?
>>
>>32742396
.38 special is cheap to shoot and you can step up to .357 if you want to put a real hole in something. Decent capacity, and good enough accuracy with the .357

.45-70 is good if you want to quickly convert cash into large holes and don't mind having only like 4 shots available.

.30-30 is just a shit round and you shouldn't.

.22/.22 mag/.17HMR lever actions are cheap, but don't really function like true lever actions when it comes to cycling and reloading. They generally don't have loading gates on the side, so you have to go unscrew the end of the magazine tube to load them up again.

Bumping this
>>
>>32742444
no i want the same thing to pair with my .357 wheelgat
>>
>>32742466
>.30-30 is just a shit round
still does exactly what it was designed to do and does it well.
kills shit dead within 150 yards through brush and shit
>>
>>32742466
Thanks, also checked.
>>
Get the Marlin 1894 in 44 Magnum.

Thank me later kid.
>>
>>32742444
No, it's fun.

Can't you only use round nose bullets? Something about them being pointed interfering with it feeding

the 3030 is so shitty that every other manufacturer stole it from wini and it's still manufactured today, over 100 years later. I guess if you're a mallninja you cant appreciate rounds designed for hunting
>>32742629
I can get decent groupings at 200 yards using dead iron. love my 1894
>>
>>32742849
People don't like putting spitzers in tube mags because they think they'll explode when the nose of one round presses the primer of the next. This isn't really a problem with .357 magnum
>>
>>32742396
.44-40 WCF
>>
>>32742879
My buddy has an 1894 from 1922 with a peep sight flip up thing mounted to the rear tang and shooting at a 12 inch gong from 600 hit 2/3 times, so 30-30 had me pretty damn surprised first time shooting it
>>
>>32742770

google 'marlin jam'

thank me now and fuck that guy instead
>>
>>32742396
.357. Anything else is shit.
>>
>>32742923
It's also got a good variety of loads for different game. Plinking with rounds capable of dropping a fucking bison (if we hadnt, you know, already shot them all) makes me feel like a rootin tootin cowboy
>>
>>32742466
.357 is the best for a lever gun. If I buy a lever gun, I do not imagine going for precision. Plinking and cowboy camping is all I imagine would be useful for this gun. If you want a bear gun, go for a shotgun. Guide guns are literally shit with their range vs potential.
>>
30-30 is an old, antiquated round that does exactly as it was intended for. With all the fanatics for 1911 in surprised /k/doesn't love it.

I love shooting it. It's tons of fun.
>>
44mag is sweet shit in my Henry, holds eleven rounds. Just need to start reloading
>>
>>32742396
To be fair you actually can get a single lever action in 30-06. The always wonderful Winchester 1895 was chambered in 30-06 in both it's original production runs and it's modern Miroku built run. The newer ones have the benefit of modern metallurgy so they're a bit stronger than the original.

I love my 357 levergun, it'll even take out shotgun shells @ 100 yards if I do my part
>>
Is the Marlin 336ss a good buy?
>>
>>32743131
There is also the BLR which is box fed, comes in 308, 30-06, 223, and a bunch of other random spitzers but is limited to 4+1
>>
>>32742605
I want it for exactly the same reason. It seems to me like very few people make them, though, which is why I wanted to ask.
>>
>>32742817
As much as I'd love a lever nugget, you can get a 30-06 model for half the price, and since 7.62x54 isn't getting cheaper, its not worth the $2-3k price

I have a Browning that I am pretty much in love with for Cowboy shooting and general fucking around.

308 or 30-06 in a Browning BLR

The greatest lever action ever made.

Model 99 in 300 Savage.

/k/ hates to acknowledged it.

>rotary magazine
>ROUND FUCKING COUNTER
>loaded indicate
>300 sav is 308's daddy
>loaded chamber indicator
>weight is center balenced when loaded

>>32742401
>>32742629

>>32743022

30-30 is among the greatest rounds as it's intention of huntin durr at 150 yards in thick brush nothing else beats it. It will never die. Sorry /k/. Combined with affordability and weak kick it's here to stay.
>>
>>32742881
>they think they'll explode when the nose of one round presses the primer of the next

doesn't that require a decent amount of force, though?
>>
>>32747049
Maybe, but why risk it? If you want pointy bullets, there are plenty of non tube mag rifles chambered for them.
>>
>>32747049
The majority of the time yeah youll be hard pressed to fuck up that badly. But if you get an especially pointy bullet uo against an especially touchy primer and you hit the butt on the ground hard enough its possible. No one wants to take the risk of excess lead in their jaw on account of a tricky log
>>
>>32743190
Before the Freedom Group purchase or one made after 2015 sure.
>>
>>32742396
.357 and .44 magnum are very potent in lever actions. Consider those before the old round-nose cowboy rounds. 45-70 is definitely a killer round for dangerous game but not exactly cheap. 30-30 still packs a punch but there are better choices now.
>>
How does .45 colt do in lever gats? I'm planning on getting a saa in .45 colt and want to eventually get a lever gat to match it?
>>
>>32742444
Josh, is that you?
>>
>>32747262
Really nice especially with reloads intended for longer barrels. Not a big fan of 45lc but it is pleanty powerful out of a lever
>>
>>32742881
Not really a problem since primers stopped being finicky as fuck and the meplats lining up with the primer in the first place on their own would be extraordinarily rare.

>>32742924
Good job trying to paint something that can happen as something that will happen
>>
>>32747114
>No one wants to take the risk of excess lead in their jaw on account of a tricky log

Good thing the mag tube isn't a barrel and can't build enough pressure for shit.
