I dont own one. I dont live in a shitty area but with protests and civil unrest, i might pick one up just in case. Theyre cheap so why not i guess

the top middle, the Drager, has the best vissibility, but comfort is sorewly lacking, the strabs are rubber and a god damn bitch to set, the triangular eye works well, its borderline impossible to speak with the thing on though, hillariously bad infact,

the top black one is a Danish civil defence mask, i think Canada used the same model at some point, this mask is by far the best ive ever worn personally, straps are easily adjusted, has markings on the straps so you can remember how tight it needs to be if it loosens in travel or in its carrier, lenses/eyes are more then adequate, i wear glasses so im used to ignore things outside of my immidiate field of vision but this mask is minimally restrictive, if clearly spoken communication while wearing this mask is ofcourse impaired but suprisingly good.

all my masks are horribly outdated and probably serve barely superficial function, ecept the Danish civil defence one that might still be good, but if you are actually looking for something that works bye modern and up to date

getting something in 40MM NATO filter might be advantages thouge
>>
>>32741874

>>
>>32741874
Such bullshit in chart form.

Asbestos was used as a prefilter. It would still have to somehow migrate through the main filter itself to be harmful. To have the asbestos be breathable would mean the whole filter is compromised and you are breathing chunks of charcoal.

Are there any >20USD masks that are modern and guaranteed to work in any case? I've used my GP5 during a chloride leak in my town and it worked kinda fine.

If you are a prepper go for a modern surplus mask, they can go cheap sometimes, check the valves and simply buy a in date filter after that.

Taking cosplay to a whole new uncomfortable level I see.

Mask is similar to the monkey 2 the US military uses so why not? I didn't care for separate eyepieces on the old M17.

I'm curious. I have hundreds of hours in NBC gear during exercises. What makes civilians want to wear that shit?

If you are serious, buy a spare filter and use included filter for training. Spend twelve hours suited up with no rest breaks. Practice moving and shooting and map reading and driving.

In wartime you won't get a nice comfy shelter to decontaminate and hide in, and the first time you take off the ensemble you'll be decontaminating the mask and discarding everything else.

Wear your ensemble on very hot and very cold days because you'll need to understand how it behaves and if it fogs.

Learn how to get a proper mask seal. That means your straps will be uncomfortably tight! That's why the military does mask fit tests.
>>
>>32749543
It's not for cosplay, it's just something to have and practice putting on in the unlikely event of some kind of NBC attack
>>
>>32741768
Pbf filters contain chromium, I'd watch out
>>
>>32749559
In that case do as I said and study military NBC manuals because gear is junk without knowledge and training. Practice rapidly donning the mask and checking seal. People suck at that. If you have a beard, lose it. Beards cannot seal sufficient to pass a vacuum test with a mask fit tester. Short hair is wise too and makes for easier decontamination.

If you are distant enough from a nuke learn about sheltering in place etc. Bio you won't know about until it's too late. Gas doesn't work very well and isn't really "WMD" tho it's so classified so we can nuke anyone who gasses our troops.

I'm serious about wearing it for twelve hours. Civilians think you can just toss NBC gear on and it'll work like magic. Nope.

If you haven't previously stocked food, water and all other useful equipment I'd do that before NBC gear because natural disasters are much more common than extremely rare "Sarin in the subway" events. If you are choosing paranoia it doesn't cost anything to prioritize.
>>
>>32749627
thanks for the advice. I knew that beards aren't compatible with masks and that it's important to check seal after donning, but I'll have to read up and practice like you said.

I live about 10 miles from a major population center that would probably be targeted in the (increasingly likely) event of war with Russia or China, so my plan is to put on the gear and hop in my car with my rifle, pistol, fuel, and some food and water and GTFO. Of course, this plan will need some revising
>>
>>32742695
Get a 3M half face respirator for about $40. It'll come with either organic vapor cartridges or org vapor/P-100 combo cartridges. The combos are the ones you want, but the straight OV cartridges will give you decent protection against crowd control agents, dust, and ash. You can get replacement cartridges for around $5-$8 per set, depending on where you shop. Just about any hardware or paint store will have cartridges, as does the internet. New, unopened cartridges have a shelf life of around 5-10 years.

Respirators give better protection, they're engineered to much higher standards than milsurp gas masks.

Top your ensemble off with a pair of chemical splash goggles, tape the vents for total occlusion. Make sure you get a set that meet the ANSI Z-87 standards for impact protection.

There. Now you've met your requirements, and stayed within budget.
>>
>>32743086
>Are there any >20USD masks that are modern and guaranteed to work in any case?

So, $20 is the value you assign to your lungs? You might want to reexamine your priorities.
>>
>>32743344

It's a TQS M9 medic bag in MJK Khaki. The same bag model is also sold by TSSI and AWS. If you are interested in getting one, you can check Fleabay or buy direct (coyote only) from AWS's website (they probably are the original manufacturer of all of the M9 bags). http://www.awsin.com/proddetail.asp?prod=52429.

I hope this helps.

I've got an OM-14 mask that was shipped to me from Lithuania a few months ago, and from what I've been able to tell, it was sitting in a surplus warehouse before I bought it. The filter has EO-14. The mask and filter are both in flawless condition and the mask has print dating it to 1984. The filter, though, is completely blank. Is it safe to use? Did the Soviets ever phase out asbestos? Pic related is a stamp on the filter that I could never make out what it said.

>>
>>32778557

thanks friend
>>
>>32781312
I would assume that if both ports are threaded, you could have two filters, this would likely make it easier to breathe through, but the real purpose of having multiple ports is so that you can change filters without exposing yourself to outside contaminates.
>>
>>32741066
because im not a jew, im not scared
>>
>>32781897
Nah, it's not. You change filters based on what hand you shoot with. Left hand shooters use the right filter port and etc. The other filter is capped otherwise, and using more than 1 filter benefits you in no way. If anything its worse, since you're using more than one filter and now have less filters.
>>
>>32777358
It is, get an FM12 if you want that kind of mask. S10s are not produced anymore, so literally any FM12 mask will have a longer shelf life. They're also comfier imo

Learn how to care for your mask. If it seals and everything is still supple and you can see through the lenses, it's serviceable IF your filter is still good. For tear gas all you need is a particulate filter.

I and most vets have hundreds of hours in these:

http://www.approvedgasmasks.com/msa-mcu2p.htm

I greatly prefer them to older dual eyepiece designs.

If you need glasses, get some made if you are serious and need them for shooting, but IRL you'll be wildly unlikely to need to fight under gas.

If you have a sense of humor you could store the perfectly legal precursors for phosgene and use a few gallons to deny a small area in times of unrest. Gas is a nice way to cover an urban retreat in narrow, canalized areas. Zombies may be dead on TV but the real ones need air and gas is frightening. Study WWI gases and gas shell payloads to get an idea of what it can do. Phosgene dropped from above into a Martian position would fuck up their day by driving them from cover into your kill zone.

think about it.
a helmet designed to be able to seal with a flip down gas mask or face shield (for riots and such) and maybe even a HUB system.
how do we make it /k/?

>obsolete simply because it's old
>somehow will provide no protection even if its holding up and seals aren't fucked
>doesn't even mention 60mmto40mm adapters
Lmao this is awful
>>
>>32784911
Shitty suffocating idea compared to a proper mask. If you'd spent serious time in MOPP 4 you'd know removing helmets is helpful when resting and trying to release as much body heat as practical.

Wear your mask, hood and NBC ensemble enough to get a clue. Helmets are a burden and HUDs illuminate your face as a target plus adding weight and bulk.
>>
>>32785366
I'd rather have a "obsolete" mask that holds a seal with a working filter in a pinch than nothing 2bh. And as long as the filter works and the mask holds, wouldn't it work anyways, no matter how old it is?
>>
>>32786145
Yes, that's what I was saying anon. It doesn't matter how old it is. If the seals are good, and it's not rotted it doesn't matter. Ofc, some filters have asbestos but that's that filter, not the mask.
>>
What are the best all around filters? I see all this talk about charcoal and asbestos.
>>
>>32786269
All masks are made with activated charcoal. Some older masks have shitty filters, with wholes, so the charcoal either flies into your lungs, or is compromised and just doesn't absorb anymore.
Any new mask like an sf-10, m40, mcu 2p, anything that accepts 40mm NATO filters will be 100% fine

Not even anything wrong with GP5s if the seals aren't compromises desu, they basically use 40mm threads so if you can fit a NATO filter onto the threads, it's way better than anything that's not the real deal
