Well they do have the cast zinc pot metal umarex 22s marked as Colt. That people buy for some reason over the far superior GSG option.

It is true. They never adapted to the times. The most modern they got was the Colt Railgun. That being said, once I turn 21 in four months, I'm buying a Colt Series 70 1911.

What's worse is they had a DA/SA automatic with 15rd capacity in 9mm and 9rd capacity in .45ACP, all the way back in 1971, the SSP

Like, it was basically Colt thinking of the 5900 series before Smith & Wesson did.
What do they do with the thing? Nothing at all, instead they abandon it, and many years later they kludge a 1911 slide onto a really shitty DA/SA frame to create the Double Eagle abortion.
If they had pursued the SSP instead, we might today have had a 17rd 9mm DA/SA from Colt, imagine pic related with a full length railed frame, forward slide serrations, G10 grips, tungsten ceramic finish, and Novak style night sights.

The original All-American 2000 was a fantastic compact carry gun designed by Eugene Stoner and Reed Knight, both firearms legends. Then Colt's lawyers fucked the gun with a god-damn 10lb trigger and Colt's engineers made some of the stupidest and most baffling decisions I've ever heard when adapting it for mass production.

Of course, its nothing comparable to a multi branch contract, and pistol contracts don't compare to the money for a rifle contract.

But I don't think they are dead yet, plenty smaller companies have gotten sick contracts abroad.
